About

Five years after their original frontman, Layne Staley, died of a drug overdose, Alice in Chains made an unlikely return in 2007. Surviving band members Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, and Sean Kinney recruited frontman William DuVall to join the group, first for some well-received concerts, then to go on tour. Next came a new album, 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue," which got glowing reviews, entered The Billboard 200 at No. 5, and led to more shows with fast-moving tickets. In 2013,  the band released their second post-Staley album, this time reaching No. 2 on The Billboard 200. The only AIC album to chart higher was 1995's self-titled set -- the band's last with Staley -- which reached No. 1.

Alice in Chains' dark take on rock emerged from the same late '80s Seattle scene that also spawned fellow grunge acts Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, among others. With Staley at the helm, the band recorded rock radio staples like "Rooster," "Heaven Beside You," "Got Me Wrong," and "Would?"  The band has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards -- including two with DuVall on the mic -- but so far haven't won an award.

    Surpassed expectations

by WayneN on 2010-02-03Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I am not an Alice in Chains fanatic, but I have always really liked their sound. The show proved that they are obviously a very tight band. Awesome sound, awesome show. Duvall did really well (amazing voice) and compliments the band nicely. Cantrell rocks. Everybody was on their feet for the entire show and had a great time (the band included!).

    Amazing

by JenniferCalabrigo on 2010-02-03Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I must admit I was a little apprehensive about seeing Alice in Chains without their lead man Layne Staley. Although I think William DuVall is a talented musician in his own right, I wasn't quite sure he was the right fit for Alice. I should have known that all of my apprehensions and concerns would be blown right out of the water the very minute the band took the stage. Opening with "All Secrets Known", I was floored from the beginning. The band members were charming and funny (even when Sean Kinney cracked a joke about an audience member wearing garlic around his neck when in fact it was a chain of skulls). They played an excellent mix of old and new songs, and did a good job of including songs from all of their albums. William DuVall had such energy and passion singing Layne's songs which was much appreciated, but I could tell he felt more comfortable singing songs off of the new album. fair enough. Jerry Cantrell seemed like he was in his element the whole night. When singing "Got Me Wrong", he asked the audience "How do you feel?" when singing the lyrics: "I haven't felt like this in so long." And you could tell that he too had not felt like this "in so long". It was encouraging and almost heart-warming to see these guys on stage so full of life and energy after all they had been through with Staley's death. Although Layne is sorely missed and will always occupy a space in the hearts of Alice in Chains fans, I am so glad they decided to come back and give it another try. Thanks for a great show, Alice.

by Letterhed on 2010-02-03Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

This was by far one of the best concerts I have been to in my life. This is the first time I have seen Alice In Chains since the early\mid nineties. I have been to over 100 concerts. I have seen AIC 6 times now. These guys are top notch, You cant even tell Layne is missing and I am a Die hard Layne Staley fan. Alice in Chains is back better than ever!

Even after 5 long weeks of touring, AIC still delivered a perfect show! Their Vegas set was an incredible mix of old and new, sound was amazing and William did an overwhelming job with the classics. The new material rocks and I can't wait for more! Thanks Jerry, Mike, Sean and William for coming together and bringing back rock and roll! You guys RULE!

    What a Show!

by Saliwok on 2009-09-16The Opera House - Toronto

Truly excellent. What an opportunity to see a band of this caliber in a club as small as the Opera House. I felt truly privileged. William DuVall is perfect with this band and I'm really looking forward to hearing the new CD.

The crowd was all into the show. The Opera House made for a very intimate venue and the band really showed they still have it. Excellent show.
