Like their band name, the multi-faceted sound of British indie rockers Alt-J (∆) requires a bit of explaining. The name derives from the combination of keys that results in a delta sign (∆) on Mac computers; the sound – a combination of folk-pop, skittering polyrhythms, and soaring falsetto harmonies – results in happy critics and even happier listeners. The quartet formed in 2007 in a Leeds Metropolitan University dorm room, and the constraints of recording demos in a quiet study environment heavily influenced their hushed, intricate approach to indie rock. Their 2012 debut An Awesome Wave received the Mercury Prize, Britain’s most prestigious music award, and launched the band to indie stardom with singles “Breezeblocks” and “Fitzpleasure.” Alt-J are on tour in 2013, and ticket buyers can be sure that no matter how big the venue, the band will deliver the intimate live concert they’ve become known for.
I started the evening in the stands. Even though my seat location wasn’t too bad, the sound was truly TERRIBLE, cavernous, muddy, echo-ey. I managed to switch with someone who had a wristband for floor standing room, got up front & centre near the stage, much better.
The band is great. A bit hard to see Echo Beach because it is general admission. Nice to be outside.
Remarkable! Alt-J is indeed very good, including live! Tennis also did very well. RBC Echo Beach is very nice spot for concerts. It's like a mini festival, but it's not crowded. For those bands, it was a very nice audience too! Great experience!
By far, the best concert I've ever been to. They did not disappoint!

This concert was great! We loved having general admission tickets because we had plenty of time to walk around, but merch and food and drinks before making our way over to the beach and getting a standing spot fairly close to the front. This concert was, however, pretty short. The opener went on at 8:15, played till 8:45. Then alt-J went on at 9:15, played till 10:30 or so. Not super long, but we loved every minute of it.

Great arena, easy to access and park the car. Good seats just in front of the stage. Amazing sono. And the Alt-J performance is really incredible, the lights effects as original as the music. My best show for ever.

Sound was incredible, as was the lighting. One of the most immersive concerts I've ever been to. The seats gave us an exceptional view of the whole show.

Being an alt-J fan, I loved the show. It was amazing. The opener, Bishop Briggs sounded great and had a lot of energy. Alt-J was amazing. Their light show is incredibly and intricately precise to their music. They played a great setlist made up of all their albums. You can tell the guys are really into it.
I have seen them in Toronto on the 28th of October. If you like their music, I highly recommended you to go and see them life. Just don't expect them to be interactive with the crowd; they are very serious during the show, focusing on quality of delivery (they are on the job).
What to say about this show? It was visually beautiful, my ears loved the bass and we had amazing seats! We could dance as much as we wanted without worrying about blocking someone. All in all, venue was clean, easy to get to and overall fun! Love Alt-J and was very pleased with their set-up and the light show was out of this world. Awesome!
Absolutely incredible. Wish I'd purchased tix for both nights—was just that good. Didn't think they could be even better live, but they were.
Whomever is responsible for the light, laser, and LED panel show timed up to the music deserves an award. I didn't know I'd be this impressed with a light display. Alt J sounded amazing. Played some old, some new. Didn't feel like a long show or too short either. Bishop Briggs has an incredible voice and the stamina to match! She was running across the stage and dancing. Never heard her music before the show but she gained a new fan!
