  • April Wine rocks!

by BadJack on 2010-09-19Century Casino - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

As was most of the crowd, April Wine was a little heavier. a little grayer but no less rockers than they were 30 years ago! They played a large variety of songs from thier seemingly endless catalog of hits. Pulling from thier earliest 70's albums to the 80's monster hits had the house rocking from the first note. Throwing in a few of thier well known ballads and a well placed blues skiff, it was a great mix. The sound was excellent and the boys themselves sounded excellent. Myles Goodwin had little trouble hitting the high notes of classics like "Roller" or "Ooowhatanite", or the straight drive of "Could've Been a Lady". All in all April Wine had all the oldsters like myself and a handful of the kids on the dance floor partying for the whole show. Rock on April Wine!

  • Time to move on?

by prwizardry on 2010-06-05McPhillips Station Casino - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Is it just me, or do these aging acts seem to be getting stale. Like many, I love classic rock and the nostalgia that goes along with it, but there seems to be too much predictability, paint by numbers. I've noticed that with Throrogood, Priest, now April Wine. When I saw them at the Pyramid about 12 years ago, they were louder and more energetic. They used generic equipment this time around that sounded harsh and somewhat cheep during this tour. It's a two way street, maybe the typically older audiences need to get pumped up more and accept new creativity from these bands - for the bands to feed off this energy. Take a page from Jagger, Iron Maiden and Green Day - they still know how to throw a party. If your too old to rock, stay home.

  • Great show!!!

Had a blast, had not seen April Wine since the early 90's. Had great seats, right up front. They can still belt out the tunes. Perfect venue to see them perform. Will definetly go see them again when they come back.

  • 40 years, and barely slowing down

by Coopsy on 2010-06-04McPhillips Station Casino - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Maybe the lineup has changed a bit, but the sound is the same. These guys are incredibly fun to watch and are amazingly talented musicians. Myles still had the vocal range and delivered a sound arguably similar to studio recordings for most songs. Afterwords, while tearing down, Myles even took a picture with my friends, and I shook the guitarist's (whose name unfortunately escapes my mind at this point, even though he was fantastic) hand. Very fun, very classic, very April Wine. PS. They had an alarm bell on the drumset for Oowatanite and I somehow didn't see it on the kit until they played it as the LAST SONG. Very epic!

  • hits & ballads

by Anonymous on 2010-04-27Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

They played all their hits that me and my girlfriend wanted to hear. They did a 15 minute blues medley and a segment of ballads. A slower and more subdued setlist than when we saw them last year. But still amazing. Last year they just played their hits.

  • Bad Sound !!

by BADDAD on 2010-04-26Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I Have been to hundreds of shows over my 49 years. In My opinion the sound was not good ! I don't meen to loud. The vocals and guitars were over the top ( distortion in my ears ) the bass was fine. The sound guy should reavaluate what he thinks sounds good. I love April wine. the play list was great. my first show 1978 April wine and Teaze Castlegar BC. The comadore is a great venue.

  • april wine sucks live

by ardbeg on 2010-04-26Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 1 out of 5

First off, I love these guys songs but... This is the second time that the sound has been excruciatingly loud. I will never again support this band live. If you ever see these guys, invest in earplugs!

  • April Wine was amazing

  • Way too loud

by BADDAD on 2010-04-25Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

Too, too loud and started too, too late. Poor stage equipment used.

  • April wine was distorted

by Sadist on 2010-04-25Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

At high db settings the vocals were coming through distorted. This took away the pleasure of listening to it, cause one knows how it sounds (or should sound) what was coming accross was at times jarring.

    by KK99 on 2010-04-25Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 1 out of 5

April was good, love the band but the sound system was way too loud /distorted and pretty much destroyed the music. I will enjoy listen to my CD at my OWN Volume!!

  • Mad Shadow awesome....April Wine sucks!

by Anonymous on 2010-04-25Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Mad Shadow was INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Fabulous show....they should have been the main act and April Wine should have opened up for them! April Wine was crap....very slow and mellow and BORING! Almost fell asleep! I highly recommend Mad Shadow!

  • What a pleasure!

by RiccoRocks on 2010-04-25Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Got to this venue late. Stood in line around the corner. I had worked all day so I was exhausted.. When we got inside there were no seats available. A few drinks got me relaxed. The backup band got me in the right state of mind. When April Wine came on stage and stared to play I totally forgot all that ailed me. They sounded amazing! An April wine fan since sixteen years of age , I'm forty nine now. Thanks Myles , Brian , Blair,| Breen for bringing back memories and creating new ones. Canadian Bands Rock!!!!!!!!!
