    Arcade Fire- Fantastic in Winnipeg!

by stwpg on 2010-09-25MTS Centre - Winnipeg

I don't get out that much anymore with 2 little kids at home but my husband and I were able to escape for a night out and went to see Arcade Fire. We skipped the opening band in lieu of having a few drinks first. Got to our seats a few minutes before they came out. WOW, from the moment they stepped on stage they had an amazing presence. Not every band is good live, but they were amazing. Can't believe there are 8 of them! My first impression was "I love that women drummer, she is totally cool!' I could of passed on the pic on the faces of the ladies swimming during one song when they showed it over and over and over but other than that I didn't even mind the guy in the white jumpsuit!!! Lead guy was pretty brave walking out into the crowd like that which was nice to see. The billboard style screen was very cool especially with some of the effects. Thought they might show the video of Wilderness Downtown which you can find on Google Chrome. It is very neat. Check it out. Pretty amazing how each band member easily changed spots to play different instruments. Unfortunately, at the MTS Centre the seats are small and crowded. The guy sitting next to me was totally annoying me. He was old and excited doing constant airband moves of keyboard, drums and guitar. My sight line to see the band was totally obstructed by this. Did I mention he had no rhythm. Luckily after the second song, my husband traded spots with me and he was more amused with it than annoyed like me. In the end, it was pretty funny to watch him and you have to give the guy credit for letting loose like that. Anyways, I totally loved the concert and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes to get out and have fun!

    Arcade Fire = hot show!

by JoPa on 2010-09-25MTS Centre - Winnipeg

clearly a very talented band with incredible energy writing pop songs that are like none other (yet accessable) and still make you want to bounce. and as a huge fan of graphic and visual art, their live video layered over wicked graphics was super cool! what more could anyone want?

Arcade Fire - Five Stars Are Not Enough

by Belby on 2010-08-17Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

The Arcade Fire did not disappoint with their show on Toronto Island. It served as an introduction to their latest album, The Suburbs, while balancing the setlist with songs from the new album with established favourites from the first two albums, Funeral and Neon Bible. Arcade Fire sounds amazing live and is visually spectacular and unique - seeing all seven band members lined up to serenade the crowd, all with a different instrument, makes the audience aware of how truly talented and versatile each member of the ensemble is. Lead vocalist Win Butler exudes an unassuming sexuality with his voice and stage presence; his stature and voice are simply mesmerizing. Butler's wife, Regine Chassagne, is a fireball of energy and power in a tiny package. She is captivating whether at the foreground, taking over the vocals for tracks like Haiti or Sprawl II; or in the background, playing one of the many instruments she has mastered or twirling around the stage as if she's playing the atmosphere itself. The other band members transition to different and sometimes obscure instruments with ease. They exhibit the perfect blend of passion and proficiency, while enhancing the overall esthetic by appearing to be an orchestra of sorts. Richard Reed Parry's energy stood out, as he bounded around the stage and channelled his enthusiasm to the avid fans. With their latest three albums providing such an impressive catalogue, any setlist the band delivered would be sure to please. The pace and energy of Funeral's "Neighbourhood" songs that were played - Tunnels, Laika, and Power Out (Kettles was not played) - reminded everyone why they fell in love with the Arcade Fire. The least-represented album was Neon Bible, but the songs from that album were chosen wisely, including Intervention which is even better live, and the punchy Keep the Car Running. Songs from the new album like Ready To Start, Month of May, and Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) were powerful anthems and exactly what rock concerts are all about.

    arcade fire, on fire!

by jainic on 2010-08-17Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

heard about them for years, and always wanted to see them live.. jumped at the chance to see them on olympic island. it was suppossed to rain that night, but the fire kept the storm clouds away! we had to leave after the last song to catch the ferry, but the exit was actually right next to the stage, so we were able to see/hear the three encore songs they played perfectly!

    Arcade Fire was Amazing!

by Rhalford on 2010-08-16Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

Arcade Fire were amazing and Janelle Monae and The Sadies were great as well. I have never been to a better concert on Olympic Island. The organization of the concert itself was far better than any previous V-fest or Broken Social Scene show. The security was efficient and did not slow down entry into the venue or the beer gardens. The food was delicious and it was great to be purchasing from local vendors like at Hillside.

    Another Gold for Canada!

by macdonka on 2010-08-16Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

Saturday`s show on the island was amazing! There was a point early on where it brought some tears to the eyes, the music is so beautiful. I was glad to have brought my mother and brother who are huge fans as well, defnately the highlight of the summer. Some of the best bands need to be seen and not just heard, because the performance is so real and spectacular, there are truly no words..

    Best Live Band

by deVoxTurk on 2010-08-16Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

This was my third time seeing the Arcade Fire and it gets better every time. I got onto the island about halfway through the Sadies set. The powerful Torontonians did a great job warming up the crowd. Janelle Monae took the stage next and she was fantastic. I have been digging her album and was looking forward to seeing her too. The crowd all seemed to love it and she looked like she gained a lot of fans by the end of her first Canadian performance. Then the mighty Arcade Fire took the stage kicking it off with Ready to Start, and they are just phenomenal. Playing mainly songs from their new album the Suburbs and their debut album Funeral with 2 or 3 from their softmore album Neon Bible. The closed their set with an amazing performance of fan favourite tracks Power Out and Rebellion (Lies) and then came back out for an encore playing Keep the Car Running and what's now become Arcade Fire's anthem and Canada's second anthem Wake Up. It was a hot and sticky night and it looked like it was going to rain the whole time, but Arcade Fire and came out and ignited the crowd even more. Everyone was singing along and dancing. I can now say after seeing them 3 times that Arcade Fire is my favourite live band.

    Arcade Fire Outstanding!

by pickwick on 2010-08-16Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

A truly great performance by a great band. Wonderful energy. Talented musicians, many of whom played multiple instruments throughout the show. The large crowd very enthusiastic from beginning to end. The sound was excellent, particularly for a band with so many layers of sound on the studio recordings. See this band if you have a chance!

    Arcade Fire was sensational

by leannaxo on 2010-08-16Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

It was one of the most energetic and fun concerts I've ever been to, everyone was singing and dancing and there were good vibes all around. The band is absolutely amazing live and I am so glad I went, the only downfall was waiting in line to get off the island at the end of the night lol.

Arcade Fire lit up Centre Island

by Bigtobeh on 2010-08-16Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

Great concert and Great venue. Missed most of the openers, though the artist that was on right before Arcade Fire was a little "Lady Gaga"-esque; not my thing really. Anyway, Arcade Fire was really good, and I love the outdoor shows, but this one was exspecially nice.

    Arcade Fire Toronto Island

by Herschel on 2010-08-15Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

When Arcade Fire left the stage Olympic Island on Saturday night, I thought at the time that I had just seen one of the best live shows I had witnessed in years. The sheer joy of the artists and the crowd turned a great show into an unforgettable event. All around me, people were commenting on the quality of the sound, every nuance and change easy to discerne, the energy and exuberance of the band as danced through the playlist on a beautiful August night in Toronto. However by the time i got to my car, almost two hours later my joy had almost vanished. If the island wishes to host more concerts, they must do a much better job getting fans out of the park and back to Toronto. The lineup was chaotic. The fact that they only had two ferries running idiotic. The thought process behind it absolutely moronic. It took over 90 minutes to get on the ferry. It was only today my body having forgotten the sweaty claustrophobic line up that i again go back to the concert itelf, close my eyes and try to relive the epic moments the night before. As great as it was it is 50/50 whether i would attend any other show at that venue.

    Great band, lame crowd

by Anonymous on 2010-08-15Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

The Arcade Fire has an on-stage presence that is matched by few other bands (almost matched by opening Janelle Monae, who maybe wasn't the best choice for an opener. but still put on a great show....I actually believe her last album is stronger than the Arcade Fire's). AF's new material went over well for the most part. I thought Rococo was great, despite negative reviews in major newspapers. Sprawl II was also great live. Modern Man fell short, it's tough to make it an exciting live song when it doesn't have that much substance in the first place. All songs from Funeral went over really well. The crowd, however, didn't really seem to get into it. When I saw this band at Coachella a few years ago, I came out of the show literally drenched in sweat. That was because I was getting so excited by not only the band but the energy of the crowd around me. This wasn't the case at the Olympic Island show. The crowd seemed almost comatose during parts of the show (Modern Man, especially). The wait to get back to the mainland was brutal too. The show ended at about 10:20 (which was surprisingly early) and we didn't get on to the ferry until about 12:05. We even tried to walk quickly to get into the exit line fast, so I imagine some other people waited way longer. I might not go back to a show on the Island just because I don't want to wait that long again. It really dampens the spirit from the show.

So much love for Arcade Fire

by sedunc on 2010-08-15Toronto Centre Island (Olympic Island) - Toronto

The show was brilliant, from start to finish. The audience really reflected the kind of band Arcade Fire is; everyone was very kind, hip, and happy to be there. The band did a great job and it was the best concert I've ever been to. Their devotion to Haiti is remarkable. It is so refreshing to see a band who is so selfless and generous. Kanpe (organization for Canada helping Haiti) was present, and very respectful of the public. I will always think fondly of Arcade Fire and I am proud to be part of their purpose.
