    Stunning

The show was absolutely magnificent. The way they were able to portray the stories through music and dance was so touching and fabulous. Would highly recommend to others.

    Best experience ever before

by W. D. on 2022-04-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I generally don't like to spend time going to an auditorium to watch a performance. However, Shenyun performance is differentiated from other shows. The music and dances are so beautiful and spiritual. It's showing good, positive, mindful culture.

    Wow!!!

by Dancing Queen on 2022-04-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Brought my grand niece who is 8 and a dancer to see and experience dance from another culture and they did not disappoint. It was WOW! The costumes so colorful and the dancers incredible. Not a minute was wasted, it had us on the edge of our seat anxious to see what was next. Such talent from the orchestra, the dancers, choreographers, singers, directors, costume makers, the hosts and everyone in between you are amazing!

    Good but could be better

by Review Guy on 2022-03-25FirstOntario Concert Hall - Hamilton

I thought that the dancing and costumes were terrific, as was the music. On the downside, I didn't really need the passive introduction to Falun Gong. It didn't bother me to have it included, but I think it would be better if it wasn't. Overall a good night out.

    I really enjoyed the show!

by tbelling on 2022-03-25FirstOntario Concert Hall - Hamilton

I have been wanting to see this performance for years and finally had an opportunity to see it. The choreography was amazing and the dancers express allot of energy within their movements. The costume colours really made it beautiful with movement. The orchestra did a beautiful job as well to help tell the story. I recommend this performance to those who enjoy dance and culture.

For the Love of Shen Yun

by Gramma on 2022-03-25National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This was my 3rd time but it felt like my first through the eyes of my 8 yr old granddaughter. She couldn't take her eyes off of the performance. Her hands were sore from clapping so much

Content of show not for everyone

by KerryA79 on 2022-03-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The performance was divided into dances, skits and solo performances. The dancing, costumes, and music were all beautiful. The skits were somewhat bizarre and the content of which was a bit disturbing. Based on advertisements for the show, i would assume that the show would be appropriate for children but i am glad i didn't bring my child because she would probably have had nightmares about organ harvesting and violence.

    Wonderful but …

by Studied Asian History 10+ years on 2022-03-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Shenyun as a ‘show’ is Vegas material. The theme ‘China Before Communism’ is misleading though. No country in the world was a utopia before the 1950s like Shenyun portrays pre-Communist China to have been. From what I could tell, the repeated Japanese Imperial Military occupations of China pre-Communism weren’t displayed. I may have missed it though. Their defeat alone led to Chinese Communism and the disastrous ‘Great Leap Forward’. Falun Gong in general, is and was, considered a cult by most people, so keep that in mind. As a ‘show’ only, I give Shenyun a 9/10. As an honest display of pre-Chinese Communist History, I give it a 2/10. I expected a little more from the Monkey King story. Jet Li’s portrayal of the Monkey King in ‘The Forbidden Kingdom (2008)’ can’t be matched. I’ll watch Shenyun again next year though. The orchestra alone is worth the price of the ticket.

This event was incredible! Vibrant in colour, spectacular in dance, entertaining and educational in story telling. I not only enjoyed a vibrant performance but also learned about the Chinese culture. Thank you for such an amazing experience!

    Beautiful but…

by HCS on 2022-03-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The dancers were wonderful, the scenery well done especially the transitions from the screen to the stage although it got a bit repetitive over the (very many!) number of tableaux. The female soprano and two chord instrument player were amazing, the male opera singer not so much (made us cringe). Too many tableaux however that made the whole spectacle too long and the faith messaging, while expected, was over the top in many instances. Good introduction to each tableau in both official languages that helped to situate each piece. Beautiful costumes and numbers - not enough combined men and women situations. Great orchestra - musicians really helped to uplift each piece. Nice experience but would not repeat it and certainly would not recommend it.

    Propagande religieuse déplacée au CNA

by Tana on 2022-03-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Les costumes et les danses traditionnelles présentés sont magnifiques. Cependant, les chants à caractère religieux et les scènes apocalyptiques inspirés par ce courant religieux n’ont pas selon moi leur place au Centre National des Arts d’Ottawa.

    disappointed

by terry on 2022-03-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Found the first half of the show repetitious as the dancing seemed to be very much the same. Enjoyed the second half much more particularly the segments with a story line. The dancers are definitely very talented and I was amazed at their synchronization and the colourful patterns were amazing.
