  • Thank you for the performance

by Yanina on 2021-11-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

I am very grateful to BC Ballet for the opportunity to attend there performances. I have been lucky to attend almost each performance several last years. I do not expect that each performance should be amazing and very grateful for each work regardless my opinion. I will not comment on the first two performances: Stadium and After We Glow, they did not impress me at all. The Lean To: the amazing music, and the idea to combine the alive, beautiful music and ballet is gorgeous. The costumes are awkward. Garden: the music, the costume, the intention of the creator, Mr. Walerski and beauty of the visual impression were very attractive. It reminded me Henri Matisse's panting: "Dance". However, neither technical performance, no emotional/soul expression of dancers in Lean to and Garden reached the level of quality of chosen music or/and the art of Matisse. I think Lean To and Garden are lacking a bit the depth, but still it was interesting to watch these two. Thank you for such gifts.

  • Bring on the Dance

by Dance On on 2021-11-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Well, the opening of BC Ballet's newest season was met with mixed emotions. It was wonderful to be back at a live dance performance and feel the energy of the audience. The anticipation was certainly not disappointed by the performances given by the dancers by any means. However, if you came to watch ballet, you pretty much had to wait until the fourth piece, Garden. If the new direction is to continue so deeply entrenched down this contemporary path, the troupe may want to consider a name change.

  • So beautiful

I really enjoyed myself. The performance was incredible, the accompaniment was perfect and the simple set design was beautiful.

Has it really been 20 months since their last live performance? You wouldn't know it as every aspect of the performance was tight! Well done Ballet BC !

  • Stunning

I brought my grandaughter to the performance and I throughly enjoyed it. First time we have attended a modern ballet. The dancers were so fluid together and in perfect sync. Each performance was quite lengthy so we were in awe how they could perform at that high level for such a long set. They were beautiful to watch It was such a unique style I highly recommend!

Beautiful evening and wonderous performances. Would like it if the crowd wore masks. Would definitely go again.

I really liked choreography, as first I was surprised because of the simple decoration, but the ballet was magnificent. Lots of thanks.

  • Ballet BC performing Romeo and Juliet

by Diane on 2020-03-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

This ballet company did a wonderful job of performing this beautiful and sad love story. I have seen it twice before and never have I been quite so moved. The audience was enraptured in the final scene and despite a full house you could have heard a pin drop! Thank you to all who made this wonderful evening possible.

Always love going to see Ballet BC at the Queen E, but last Thursday’s Romeo and Juliet was an even better event than usual. The spectacular choreography, the athleticism of the dancers, the beautiful music and the well-loved story. Everything was perfect!

  • Truly Amazing.

Ballet B.C. continues to amaze audiences with a modern ballet experience like no other. These dancers are so real and unpretentious even when they are acting. There is a fluidity of movement that most companies can only dream of. You will be transported in the most profound way.

What a wonderful time. Beautifully and expressively danced! So yourself a favor and brush up on the story... It's danced not spoken.

  • The nutcracker by Ballet BC

    by B. R. on 2019-12-31Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

I saw the last two annual performances by Alberta Ballet in Vancouver and found them outstanding. Ballet BC has used the same sets and costumes to good affect but the first act was a little thin on the ground perhaps due to financial and personnel restraints. However Act two was much better. The Principals were excellent as were the young dancers and the Corps de Ballet.

  • Outstanding!!

I have seen Ballet BC many times, and I have to say they never disappoint. I swear each time I see them, they top the last performance. Program 1 was absolutely transcending!!!

  • Amazing but not so much parking

    by D. B. on 2019-11-05Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

What incredible dancing we witnessed. Both dances were beautifully and creatively choreographed. A super evening except for parking! Even at 7pm the lot at QE was "full" due to passholders. That meant a $25 or $21 parking fee - that spoilt my well planned evening.

  • Compelling Music and Evocative Dance

    by G. on 2019-11-05Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

We had another great evening with Ballet BC. The two pieces (Busk and B.R.I.S.A) contrasted wonderfully and were a perfect synergy of dance and music. Both received standing ovations and thunderous applause and shouts and whistling.
