About

English rock band Band of Skulls, formed in Southampton in 2004. The original lineup consisted of Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals), Emma Richardson (bass, vocals), and Matt Hayward (drums). Initially performing under the name Fleeing New York, the trio eventually rebranded as Band of Skulls in 2008, marking the beginning of their rise on the indie rock scene. Band of Skulls released their debut album, "Baby Darling Doll Face Honey," an incredible fifteen years ago in 2009. The album was a blend of blues rock, garage rock, and indie influences, featuring standout tracks like "I Know What I Am" and "Death by Diamonds and Pearls." The gritty guitar riffs, dual vocal harmonies, and raw energy of the album earned the band critical acclaim and a growing fanbase. Their music was featured in TV shows, movies, and video games, further amplifying their presence and significantly broadening their fan base.

This was my 6th time seeing them live, and it was the best show yet. The band has such a strong connection with the audience. This is everything a live show is meant to be. Will see them again and again.

3rd time seeing them -- each as they toured their 3 albums -- and this show was best by far! amazing set and they kept on going!... each song was amazingly performed... Cold Fame, Hollywood Bowl, Light of the Morning i wished they played them all!

  • Truly a special evening

I went to this show with great expectations and boy I was not disappointed! Right from the opening of Sweet Sour this band wowed the crowd with every note. Russel Marsden got his guitar to sing and rock out all at the same time, Matt Hayward was an ANIMAL on the drums and Emma Richardson brought it all together with her beautiful vocals and rock steady bass. This band was bang on note for note, simply perfect! I was very impressed with Cold Fame, they took the crowd on an emotional journey with the highs and lows of this great song. All in all, this is a concert that I will remember for a long time and it will be one that I use to judge future shows I see!

  • Band of Skulls was amazing

    by Carebear28 on 2010-04-30The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Although I was sad it was so late for a work night, I was extremely happy that I went. The first starter band Saint Motel (I think I rembered that right) was really really good! The second band was nice, but not my cup of tea. They were not bad at all - again, just not for my musical taste. When the Band Of Skulls came on, it was fabulous to see everyone singing along. The lead singer sounded so amazing, his voice carried the tune and pitch perfectly. I was extremely entertained and pleased I was able to stay up and see this fabulous show. The venue is much more cozy then trying to see something at Rexal and the sound quality is so much better. With it being a smaller gig, you did not have the sound guy sabatoging the starter bands as is the tradition of bigger gigs. If you are thinking os seeing the Skulls but not sure - hesitate no longer and get your tickets. These guys are amazing!

  • Pure Rockness

by hjay on 2010-04-28The Starlite Room - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Band of Skulls music is so eclectic, so fresh and heavy, and different yet familiar. All new music that is raw and yet in so many of their songs are the familiar sounds of Led Zepplin, that sort of 70's vibe, juxtaposed against the stripped down garage band sound they exude. What a great concert! Emma Richardson, bass/singer, is the epitome of coolness. The Starlite room was packed and the crowd was really incredible, very good during the opening acts and Saint Motel was really rocking out and engaged the crowd. When Band of Skulls started, those blue curtains parted, the place erupted and lots of fans were singing loudly, they knew all the words to all the songs so it gave the impression there are lots of fans who really love the Band of Skulls here in Edmonton. This is Band of Skulls 2nd concert in Edmonton, they played back in November 2009 to a smaller crowd.

  • LOUD!

Amazing show.......great venue (very small), and the opening acts were a pleasant surprise. Band of Skulls rocked, I love seeing the 3-piece bands play loud, stripped-down rock and roll. Best show I've seen in a while, and a bargain at $18!
