    BOC... Still Kickin' ASS..

by GeraldH on 2018-08-20Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

OK, even if you're not a long-time BOC fan - you will know the 2 or 3 songs you've heard over the years. The play faithful to the original versions, so you can sing along. For those diehard fans, they sound amazing on everything else as well. The musicianship is tight, both the young and old members are just plain old-fashioned rockers standing in front of 2-levels high sets of amps.

    Blue Oyster Cult Shines

by bbanek on 2018-08-20Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The Blue Oyster Cult have been around for four decades and still rocking the house. Winnipeg was blessed to have them play August 17th, 2018 at the iconic Burton Cummings Theatre and they put on an amazing show. I became a fan during their Agents of Fortune days when I caught them live in Edmonton. The Blue Oyster Cult have a wealth of music to offer and they played tunes from many of their albums. The only problem was that there isn't enough time to play more of their tunes without going into a six hour concert. I would have loved to heard them play Astronomy and Veteran of the Psychic Wars. This is a seasoned and experienced bad with a wealth of talent that put out amazing guitar riffs throughout. Guitarist Buck Dharma hasn't lost a thing and Eric Bloom can still belt out the songs. I was very impressed with guitarist Richie Castellano. Bassist Danny Miranda and drummer Jules Radino were solid. I took my 11 year old son to the show and he was equally impressed which says a lot considering his music tastes and mine don't always agree. I would highly recommend that anyone who gets the opportunity to see the show do so.

    Blue Oyster Cult

by Volvogirl on 2018-08-20Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The sound quality was terrible! Could barely hear the vocals because they did not stage the sound properly. Also, my gawd! Seriously boring 12 minute guitar solos. Get on with it!! Not a lot of fun except when they played Don’t Fear The Reaper.

    Blue Oyster Cult

by Jackmes on 2018-08-20Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The band was very good. Little bit too much guitar wankery. The sound mix was terrible. Muffled, no kick to it as the drums were buried. Not sure if that is the venue or just the tech mixing BOC. Overall an enjoyable evening that could have been better.

Blue Oyster Cult, Home Crowd Victory

by ME262 on 2015-03-23The Concert Hall - New York

What an awesome venue and awesome show. Started a bit muffled with the miss not mixed at their best but to come out of the gate with OD'd On Life was (for a40 plus year flower) was just the best. A great mix of songs with some classics and some of their best, not so main stream popular but for a BOC fan just good. Last Days Of May was just incredible. The acoustic encode was delightful and when they mentioned Alert Bouchard was in the house and ended up on stage; that done it for me. I learned my drums listening to this guy and for me would love one last tour with Eric, Buck m Albert and Joe in the line up. That would be a dream come true and after the way Albert handled that, then why not. Singing Death Caley Nights was great and then to get behind the kit and close out with Cities in Flame just made my trip to New York. Rock on guys so one of my favorite all time bands

Blue Oyster Cult has Wpg on Flame with R&R

by tarryrob on 2011-10-10MTS Centre - Winnipeg, MB

Blue Oyster Cult made their return to Winnipeg (9/24/11) with a brief but powerful set of classic songs, playing before the 5000+ strong crowd at the MTS Centre. Still fronted by original singer - guitarists Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma, the veteran rockers kicked off the night with a tip of the hat to their Canuck audience, performing their nod to the RCMP from 1973’s Tyranny and Mutation, “The Red and the Black.” Going with the tried and true, the band kept the heat up (pun totally intended) with their 1981 Fire of Unknown Origin hit “Burnin’ for You, featuring plenty of fiery riffing from Dharma” followed by a goateed Bloom growling through the Black Sabbath influenced “Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll,” from BOC’s 1972 self-titled debut album. They kept up the monstrous pace with 1 of their most well known tracks, their ode to Japan’s most famous monster, “Godzilla,” from their 1977 album Spectres, and wrapped up with the “short but sweet” set with their signature song, immortalized on the Christopher Walken Saturday Night Live “More Cowbell” comedy sketch – their 1976 hit, “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper.” Paul Rogers along with Bachman and Turner had the unenviable task of following BOC, but the 3 acts combined to give Winnipeg the best night of 70s classic rock that Winnipeg will likely see this year.

    The 'Cult' in Kamloops!

by Totofan on 2011-08-31Kamloops Convention Centre - Kamloops, BC

Pretty awesome seeing these rock legends in my own town! BOC put on an awesome show, and I was in the front row for the whole thing. I would not hesitate to go again, but what would really make this the perfect show is - once again - a longer set. The only reason I can think of for not going longer is perhaps that they play so many dates and want to stay 'fresh' for the next venue. It's a great set for the casual fan, but I'd gladly pay more to HEAR more. That said, all performed to my expectations, especially Dharma and Sarzo (of Ozzy, Quiet Riot fame). The vocals were not mixed particularly well this night, and security was a little over the top. During 'Reaper', one fan brought out a cow bell and was almost wrestled to the ground. I was literally the only one standing at the end of the set as others feared some sort of retribution. You could tell the band was a little put off by the security... Anyhow, a solid performance and a lot of fun!

Blue Oyster Cult was way too short!

by aqwasnow on 2011-05-31Casino Rama - Orillia

The show started off with Foghat. They were good and played for about 45 mins, no encore. After a 15 min intermission Blue Oyster Cult came on. They sounded great and played about 6 songs. They were playing Don't Fear the Reaper and I was thinking to myself "wow I would have thought this would be their last encore!" Then they finished the song, said goodnight and left the stage. Everyone started getting up, the house lights went on and that was it! I was in shock!!! I asked an usher if the show was really over and she she yes, they played 45 mins each set. I told her it was the shortest concert I had seen in my life. What a disappointment. I was getting into the show and then it was abruptly over. Would never go again especially if there was another band on the bill - what a rip off. I thought Foghat was the opening act not equal billing!?!?!?!?

    Short but sweet.

    by Otter1961 on 2011-05-30Casino Rama - Orillia

A time tested band like Blue Oyster Cult was a pleasure to see again. An 8.5/10 performance these guys haven't lost the touch of putting out a high quality show for all. A short set of 45-50 minutes in length was very sweet. They were just as good now as they were at the Kingswood Music Theatre in the 80"s

Blue Oyster Cult was disappointing :(

    by DollFace2 on 2011-05-17Casino Rama - Orillia

I was a huge fan of Blue Oyster Cult in the 70's. Saw them twice in concert. I was very disappointed with the performance. The opening act "Foghat" played longer and in my view was the better band that night. BOC didn't even entertain an encore. I would have liked to have seen a little bit longer set list.

The show was Ok...just. The sound was pretty bad with a lot static and noise, through the whole show,of course burnin for was great and the reaper also well done.a little dissappionted at only 55 minutes of play time, and no encore ?? haven't seen that in a long while, maybe the sound system had them pissed off too,,, hopefully they get that fixed.Foghat also played backup....actually an execellent show !

    Foghat performance overwhelmed BOC

    by JEA7 on 2011-05-17Casino Rama - Orillia

Foghat performance was really quite memorable, the band connected with the audience, while unfortunately Blue Oyster Cult failed to live up to its reputation. Don't Fear The Reaper was amazing but that was the only selection that really got the crowd excited...it brought back a lot of memories for me!

    B.O.C. Good,Foghat Better

    by 1rockroll on 2011-05-16Casino Rama - Orillia

I'm not sure if this is one of those tours where the bands alternate as headliners, but if it isn't,it should be.Foghat were by far the more rockin' of the two,and actually played five minutes longer than B.O.C.It was great to see both bands still have what it takes, even if Foghat have a little more.

    too short

    by jimbo53 on 2011-05-16Casino Rama - Orillia

First concert I ever went that the opening act played longer than the headliner. Blue Oyster Cult were only on for about 40 minutes! Both bands played very well and I heard the songs I was hoping for. A long drive from Brampton for such a short show.

    Rama double bill, Phhhht!

by Polski on 2011-05-16Casino Rama - Orillia

Foghat, was fantastic, rocked, crowd was crazy for them! "We only have a short set, but we'll move your soul" Blue Oyster Cult, really didn't want to be there! Crowd wasn't as excited. "We're here and we'll play some songs real fast" @ hour set each wasn't fair to the bands or the packed crowd!! Rama's idea or the bands?? Rama most likely.

The music was excellent but there was not enough of it. I would go see either of these bands again as solo acts. BOC ended like they had to punch a clock.
