    Need Way More Cowbell, Baby!

by Hackenstein on 2011-05-16Casino Rama - Orillia

Wow! What a disappointment! Sound was good(minus early bout of distortion from Buck's effects pedals). Could have listened to Buck Dharma playing guitar all night long! Only one problem! Dharma felt compelled, to display his talent on a total of six songs! I guess he thought he should put on his "I don't care, I'm only playing for a casino crowd, let's give them a little taste then get out of here show" He was like a zombie! The cast of Criminal Minds would have had a problem pegging a profile on this guy! Thank goodness for opening act Foghat! I wish they had been the main act. Very entertaining, and grateful towards their fans. Keep the "Driving Wheel" rockin' and a rollin"! Guys!

    Blue Oyster Cult

by Linwill on 2011-05-16Casino Rama - Orillia

everything was a 5* except for the length of time they played...that is a -10*. Free concerts in the park are longer than the 50 minutes both BOC and Foghat were allotted. I won't be coming back to Rama anytime soon.

    Sound was terrible

by mmoe on 2011-05-16Casino Rama - Orillia

The sound for this event was terrible. They sounded flat, almost two dimensional. In the middle of the set there was one for sure maybe two songs that the sound improved, but then went bad towards the end again. I beleive it may have been the sound crew or mixing because as I said there was a song with good sound. Overall I was disappointed . Can see why people were leaving two thirds the way through. The opening act Foghat blew them away and was enjoyable, a minor consolation for BOC.

    foghat and blue oyster cult

This concert was poorly booked. Short sets like that give the bands and the audience little time to warm up to each other.

I found that the opening act was much better then then headliner. Blue Oyster Cult had some technical difficulties. They did not even bother to come back out and do an encore. The show was also too quick

    poor sound

by maurice29 on 2010-07-23Club Regent Casino - Winnipeg

The band was great however it took the crew half the show to get the sound mix correct. That was the only disappointment.

    BOC catered to '70s crowd

by Victoire on 2010-07-19Century Casino - Edmonton

I was very excited to see a band whose album was so instrumental in my youth - Fire of Unknown Origin. I wasn't all that keen on their earlier stuff but did like 'Godzilla' and of course, 'Don't Fear the Reaper'. I was very much hoping they would play a few songs from Fire of Unknown Origin but they only played their hit song from the album 'Burning for You'. I would recommend to them to incorporate more of this album into their set list since there are a few of us who love the ENTIRE album and would like to hear more of it. At this point in time, I would not go see them again nor recommend to anyone else to go see them since they concentrated on the '70s era entirely.

Great show! The vocals where a little muddled sounding but it was really good sounding otherwise. they still can rock! You could just watch Rudy Sarzo all night, what an amazing bass player. It would have been nice to have some shirts for sale at the show. I would definetly see them again!

    BOC rocks !!!!

by PASS on 2010-07-16Club Regent Casino - Winnipeg

The boys still have it. The show at Club Regent Casino last night proves that these boys can still play. Buck Dharma and Eric Bloom can still put on a great show along with the newer members of the band. They sounded great and played most of their hits (noteably missing Cities in Flame with Rock and Roll) . The show sounded great and the venue was very good (my first time seeing a concert there). All in all a highly recommended show to see.

    Not Great

by Nomanor75 on 2009-10-26Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

They can still play buit seem to just to be going through the motions. They came on 15 mins late, then only played for 75 min. With their repotoire available you would expect that they could play for at least an 90 mins plus a couple of encores. They played 75 min which included 1 encore song and seemed to be smirking when people wanted to have them play more. Pretty disapointing show. Bass player was fun to watch but thats about it

    Very Disappointed!

by Musician on 2009-10-26Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

First off, I've been to many concerts at the Red Robinson since they first opened and I really enjoy watching concerts there. Every seat in the house has great sight lines to the stage and every show has had exceptional sound quality . . . that is until last Friday night. I was a fan of Blue Oyster Cult back in the late 70s & early 80s and have seen them perform before so I was looking forward to seeing them again. What a disappointment! The sound was horrible right off the start. It was like they didn't bother to do a sound check at all. It slowly got a bit better by the half way point but nothing like what I have been used to hearing at the Red in the past. Aside from Rudy Sarzo (Bass), who put on a great performance, the band was truly boring to watch and playing mistakes were plentiful. It's the only concert in the past few years, aside from The Black Crows at the Orpheum last year, where I wanted my money back. If I didn't have a date with me I would have walked out, and I don't even walk out on bad movies!

    B.O.C.

by beerlover on 2009-10-26Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

Good to see a band with such history. Obviously all fabulous musicians. However for some reason the set did not catch fire. Personally I was a little dissapointed. Partially I think the mix was to blame, far too much woofy bass which swallowed up the frequencies and didn't let the dynamics come through. They are such good singers and it was hard to hear them over the general roar. I saw them last many years ago in a larger auditorium where the mix was warmer and the whole show seemed so much more magical and musical.

    BOC was disappointing

by RHJD on 2009-10-25Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

There is no argument that they are all excellent muscians and played hard , but something seemed off in the beat. And imagine our surprise when it only lasted just over an hour and we were hurried out by the casino staff, having to "drink up fast". We have been to hundreds of concerts in many venues but this will be our first and last time at this venue.

too good to be so short

by stonecutter on 2009-10-25Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

For me the highlight had to be Buck Dharma's amazing guitar work. Some of the fills were just amazing and the flow of each piece was perfect. Add to that Eric Bloom's energy and musicality and you have a great show. Although these were the only original members of the band, the 'new guys' really filled in the gaps well. Rudy Sarzo was terrific on bass, and Richie Castellano brought a lot of energy and screaming fast guitar work to the stage. Finally, drummer Jules Radino was a more than able replacement for Al Bouchard. The oyster boys rocked out most of the songs you would expect; opening with an excellent Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll but when Don't Fear the Reaper came on after only 75 minutes or so, we knew that the magic was about to end. A single encore, and that was the end of the show. Calls for Astronomy went unanswered and the lights came up. Just short of 90 minutes seems pretty short, especially with no warm up band. Songs that should have been played, but weren't, were Astronomy, Black Blade, the Marshal Plan, Mirrors and Joan Crawford. The only other downer, other than a way too short show, was no merchandise. That might have been the venue (the Red Robinson show theatre), but that sucked - I wanted at least one t-shirt (may a replacement for my belt buckle too).

    first- rate performance!

by yellowclamsociety733 on 2009-10-24Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

    - exceptionally fine performance by a first- rate band. absolute SCORCHING 3- way lead guitar attack. 10 songs performed- a number of them with extended breaks. band was personable and were obviously enjoying themselves and appreciative of audience turn- out and crowd enthusiasm. my only regret was that the song ' astronomy ' was not included in their set- list. excellent venue, as well.

    BOC was a nice evening

by wiseguy1968 on 2009-10-24Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

There was audience interaction with Eric Bloom. It seemed to be more of a fun jam session than a big over display of lights etc. which was great! They would talk in between songs and tune guitars. Very mellow and not in your face like a huge over production where moves etc are practiced until perfect. Tables were set up around the stage like a lounge type of atmosphere with waitresses serving beer. I took my 38 year old brother and he really enjoyed it aswell. I have been a fan for 28 years and this is the first time I saw them and I wasnt dissapointed.
