    To Short

by stud2 on 2010-06-19River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

He played for barley one and a half hours. Good music, but not worth the price. To bad he peaked as a performer in the seventies.

    pure good music

by melowtones on 2010-06-19River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

excellent. Boz Scaggs entertained us with good quality music and performance. He is very humble. It was refreshing to see no ego (unlike Jamie Foxx who gave a below zero, super ego enhanced, boring performance) and be entertained by a humble, very good artist.

    Scaggs was OK

by Luliboo on 2010-06-19River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

I thought Boz sounded good, but his band was so loud that often he was hard to hear. Some songs were better than others, but many times I felt the "music" was muffled and the purity of his voice didn't come through. As always at concerts, I come expecting to hear certain songs and leave very disappointed because it was never played. This was the case here. I was really surprised he didn't play Lover Letters. All in all it was ok.

Boz Scaggs is a class act!

by Trailwalker4ever on 2010-06-19River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

After all these years, Boz Scaggs' unusual voice remains as smooth as silk. They played all the hits and he entertained the crowd with his amazing talent and smooth style.

Boz is the man. If you're lucky, you can catch him at his club Slim's in San Francisco, where he drops by now and then to keep fresh.

    Dirty Low Down

by DonnaC on 2009-09-26State Theatre - Minneapolis

Wonderful performance from a much loved talent. Lost track of the standing O's and the hits kept coming. The band had a great time as well as the audience and it made for an unforgetable evening!

Scaggs/McDonald at Beacon Theatre NYC- 09/19/09

by RTek on 2009-09-20Beacon Theatre - New York

Being a longtime fan from the 1970's of both these artists, we couldn't resist grabbing a flight from Toronto to see them in NYC, Scaggs for the third time, and McDonald for the first. Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald both with deep roots in soul and R&B, have teamed up to provide a fabulous combination of musical talent which individually has spanned for close to four decades. In New York City at the Beacon Theatre on September 19, 2009, the duo pumped out classic hits individually then teamed up. McDonald, 57, opened show on his own to the audience jumping to their feet with grammy winning Doobie Brother's hits such as "What A Fool Believes", "Takin' It To The Streets" intertwining it with hits from his Motown tributes such as "Stop Look and Listen" and "Heard it on the Grapevine". The silver haired crooner cranked it out like 25 years hadn't passed from his Doobie Brothers days. Scaggs who is now 65, opened after McDonald's set with "Jo Jo" bringing Scaggs' veteran fans roaring to their feet, as his smooth, talented band and back-up singer Monet took care of business behind him. Classic Scaggs delivering his best, and again expectedly, never disappointing his fans. He then deviated to lesser known work for a few songs, such as oldies as "Hercules" and then went on to a beautiful ballad, "Desire" from his '01 album "Dig". He seemed to encounter a couple of pitch problems in his hit from the movie soundtrack "Urban Cowboy's" "Look What You've Done To Me", but I suspect he might have had an earpiece problem or song pitch was too high, as he had a word with his bass guitarist after the song. All seemed rectified as he roared back with his outstanding hits,"Lowdown" "Lido "Shuffle" , "Georgia" and "Breakdown Dead Ahead". The crowd was going wild. All I can say is the 3 1/2 hour concert didn't disappoint, and only got better when McDonald and Scaggs teamed up for a couple songs including the hit "Drowning In A Sea of Love" from Donald Fagen's Soul Tour Review. The only thing that was the downside to this concert was the venue. Don't get me wrong, the Beacon is a beautiful theatre, but not acoustically matched for music of this caliber. It appears to be more suited to stage productions than acts of this musical magnitude. This was reflected in the fact that sitting 7 rows back from the stage some of the vocals from McDonald and Scaggs were overpowered by the bands behind them, then at some points, the vocals overpowered the bands. However, If these guys come to your town, get in line to get a ticket. No matter what, two legends like these guys, sharing the same stage, is one rare occurrence!

Good Concert on a hot Georgia night

by SharonFromToronto on 2009-07-24Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

The performances by Michael & Boz were excellent! Michael McDonald was the big name of this pairing and yet Michael was on stage first, it seemed to me like Michael was opening for Boz Scaggs - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? Michael came on stage, no introduction - no nuthin'! We were sitting in our seats just chatting among ourselves and this "guy" just starts singing. Imagine our shock when the "guy" was MICHAEL "freakin'" MCDONALD. I have to admit I was so Incensed that Michael apparently "opened" for Boz. It took me about 3 songs to "settle-in" and really enjoy the concert. After the intermission when Boz came to the stage he said that Michael McDonald was a really hard act to follow - someone from the crowd yelled something - I'm sure that concert-goer was as perplexed as I was. Overall Impression: The sound for Michael McDonald wasn't that great, but he was. He has a great band and good back-up singers. The drummer has an amazing voice. Boz Scaggs sounded pretty good - his voice has held up quite well. The highlight of his set was when his back-up singer sang Aretha Franklin - it was the only standing ovation of his set -- 'nuff said.
