BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

by EGHuntsville on 2009-09-30Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

Brandi and her band were nothing short of amazing............we were all blown away by her voice and the musicians were incredible. It is not often that an artist exceeds your expectations.........cannot wait for them to return to Toronto. We drove down from Huntsville for the show and it was definitely worth the trip.

    Brandi Carlile = Indescribable

by j9silversideup on 2009-09-30Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

I saw Brandi last night at the Mod Club Theatre in Toronto, ON. Everything about my experience was unforgettable. The theatre itself was cozy and intimate. There were maybe 200 people altogether in the audience. The bar was easily accessable, and there was a small seating area for people who did not want to stand on the dance floor. Anyone standing on the dance floor, even towards the back of the theatre still had a great view of the stage. Brandi herself was absolutely incredible; she was funny, laid back, and down-to-earth. Her voice is out of this world. I loved her music from the first time I heard it, but her recordings do not to her voice justice. Live, she is indescribable. Her voice needs no instruments to accompany it, but with her band behind her, she is something else. I've never heard anything like it. There are many musicians out there with wonderful voices, but Brandi's voice is truely an instrument in and of itself. When she sang the song that first introduced me to her, "The Story", I actually bawled. Music doesn't often have that effect on me, but I can honestly say, Brandi Carlile soothes my soul. Seeing Brandi live is an experience I will do my utmost best to repeat, next time she comes back to Canada. I recommend that everyone does the same.

    Brandi Carlile rocks!

by LMW76 on 2009-09-30Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

A forgettable venue, but Brandi Carlile more than made up for it! Brandi's performance at the Mod Club was outstanding-impeccable vocals, an amazing band and loads of personality. It's just a shame the venue is basically standing room only and does not provide the best acoustics, because brandi is worthy of a fantastic venue.

    Brandi rocks Toronto!

by Spenny77 on 2009-09-30Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

Brandi Carlile's performance at the Mod Club Theatre would be best characterized as an experience rather than simply a concert. Her vocals were piercing and pitch perfect. The entire band sounded amazing live. Brandi engaged the audience with her warm, humorous personality, sharing lots of intimate information and backstories about her music. During "Turpentine", the audience was invited to sing with her in three part harmony. The result was goose-bump inducing! The Mod Club provided an intimate setting to enjoy the band with no bad seat to be found. Brandi spoiled us with a four song encore before sending us on our way. I highly recommend her, you will not be disappointed!

    She is absolutely amazing!!!!!

by BCFan on 2009-09-30Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

This is the 3rd time that I've had the opportunity to see her in Toronto, and she just amazes me every time. The frist time was in early 2006 when she opened for Train, and when she started to sing, the whole crowd just stopped and stared. I became an instant fan!!! She played a lot of her new music from the CD set to release next Tuesday, and I can't wait to purchase it!!! Looking forward to her next visit here!!

    Amazing show

by pantherama on 2009-09-30Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

What else can I say?? Amazing show. From the opening note to the last strum of the guitar, Brandi was simply incredible. The band is such a tight group musically. They play so well together. Brandi was so entertaining. Excellent interaction with the crowd. Excellent crowd involvement. The best part? She did a song completely unplugged from her new album. Dying Day. Just came to the edge of the stage and sand with the band. The crowd was completely silent and just listened to the music. She has so much energy, and is probably one of the most talented female musicians out there. Just awesome.

    Brandi Carlile impresses once again

by Tolidog on 2009-09-29Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

What a voice. Right off the top she blew us away with her incredible vocal range. Slick, energetic and powerful, - the band played flawlessly. They took advantage of the acoustics of the wonderful old concert hall and played several unplugged songs to the sold out audience. The spontanaety was appreciated by the crowd. I saw Brandi Carlile a couple of years ago at St. Andrew's Hall in downtown Detroit and was blown away. The only drag with last night was the realization that the intimate performances of small clubs are a thing of the past. The concert halls will only get bigger from here on in. Amazing. Worth the 2 hour drive from Canada!
