Buffalo Bills Team History

The Buffalo Bills became the seventh team to join the American Football League when Ralph C. Wilson was awarded the franchise in 1959. In 1964 and 1965, the Bills won the AFC Championship, and then-Head Coach Lou Saban was named AFL Coach of the Year for both seasons. After Marv Levy took over as Head Coach in 1986, the Bills won five AFC championships and made four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990–1993. To date, the Bills are the only team to play in four consecutive Super Bowl games.

Since hiring Head Coach Sean McDermott in January 2017, the Bills have made five playoff appearances. In 2022, the Bills made playoff history in a game against the Patriots when they became the first team in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown on each of its first seven drives of a playoff game.

Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium

Since opening in 1973, Highmark Stadium, located in Orchard Park, New York, has been the home to the Buffalo Bills. The stadium underwent several name changes; known as Ralph Wilson Stadium from 1998 to 2015, it was renamed New Era Field in 2016, then Bills Stadium in 2020. Following a new naming rights deal in 2021, its official name is now Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Stadium.

A visit to Highmark Stadium for a Buffalo Bills game is sure to be a loud and high-energy experience, as the team’s fanbase, the Bills Mafia, is arguably the most loyal in the NFL. The group got its start in November 2010 following the upset from a dropped pass by receiver Stevie Johnson that could have resulted in a game-winning touchdown. The hashtag #BillsMafia caught wind on Twitter, and since then the group has been known for their tailgating antics and game-day attire and energy.

    NFL SHOWDOWN

    by kawa9r on 2009-12-08Rogers Centre - Toronto

Exciting event, well organized, good security. The game announcer should be more pro-active by announcing the names of the players after a play, he gave me the impression that he was looking on the game roster before giving the name of the players involved in the action.

    Boring

by robidex on 2009-12-08Rogers Centre - Toronto

Hi Everyone, Bills should stay in Buffalo... Toronto has no atmosphere, stupid city rules with a tail gate in a little cow park inteads of a Buffalo park with no fence. Look at Québec City for a tail gate my friend ! Good luck for the next game, i will be watching on TV. Cheers to all and Go BIlls GO

The foul language and fist fighting must be dealt with before I would ever buy again. Alcohol consumption and pre event alcohol consumption must be restricted to attract more quality clientelle.

    Electifying - It was not!

by NFLTraveller on 2009-12-07Rogers Centre - Toronto

I have been to many NFL stadiums (Oakland, Cinncinati, Indianapolis, Dalls, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New York) and watched numerous teams play live and this game just did not measure up to the hype. The fans are somewhat ho hum about the Bills and the Bills did not seem to try very hard to get the fams into the game. I know they are there to play football but it does not take much to rally the crowd and get them pumped up - a little bit of attention is all! If Toronto wants to keep the Bills coming to TO they need to get into the game get people there (Many empty seats) and if they don't - then let the Bills play their home games at home.

    Bills Vs Jets

by RickB on 2009-12-07Rogers Centre - Toronto

Too much hype, too expensive, more money should be spent on the CFL. Iwatch NFL every weekend all day, just found too much money and time was spent on this event

    Football not Music

by Dragonauntie on 2009-12-05Rogers Centre - Toronto

I thought my husband & I were going to a football game, and not a BLARING rap/music concert. The "music" (except for the 2 super High School Bands) blared so loud you could not speak to the person next to you, cause they couldn't hear. I would go to another football game , however at an outside stadium if only to save my ear-drums. Very disapointed that we were subjected to that kind of noise. The game itself was ok, however, I ould like to see more competion.

    NFL- Were Almost There.

    by shakes51 on 2009-12-05Rogers Centre - Toronto

I must say my experience this time was far better then the last. The atmosphere was electric for the most part. We still need to work on the pre-game festivities. I now nothing can be done about the quality of the teams, but if i'm gonna pay this much i expect better competition for the Bills. Sore Spot- Pricing- this aint the Leafs (I hope).

    by Topgun481 on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

What an amazing spectacle to behold. Bring on the NFL to T.O. as you brought the BillS & T.O. to Toronto. It was great and I can't wait for more "NFL FOOTBALL" baby,"BRING IT ON".

    Lynch was GREAT!!!

by UCMc on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

Had a great time, drove in from Windsor. Was a little disappointed at tailgating party though because we came early for it but weren't aware it was for 19 and over and had two kids with us.Maybe next year you could make sure there are pre-game events for all ages. The staff was wonderful and we overall had a great time. See you next year!

Bills in Toronto - You have to experience it!

by Frenchye on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

If you like NFL, you have to go to the game. Even sitting in the 500 level, we had a great view. Wish tickets would be cheaper

Bills are a mediocre team at best

by Widdy on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

Relatively boring game with the Bills only putting together one solid offensive drive. In addition, disappointed to see so many drunks and so many crowd fights. I thought that stuff went out after Argos stopped playing at Exhibition stadium!!! Best part of the game - the Marching Band from Ohio!

Needs more crowd involvement -- Try " Make some noise" on the boards when Bills are on Defence especially in key situations.

    bills/jets game

by jerbear on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

The game was great, very well organized. the pre game and half time entertainment was fantastic. The one issue I had was the seating, the seats are very small and tight and you are very very cramped in them and with your neighbours. one of the girls i went with had to watch the game sitting sideways half way out of her seat. if someone from the facitility reads this, please get wider seats to accommodate the average sportsman/women, we are all not 100lbs. but due to sitting cramped and it was most people i saw and listened to, I will only return to other venues once this has been taken care of.

    Too Expensive and boring game

    by Bills23 on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

Am a big NFL fan and been watching NFL a long time. Have gone to the 2 games last year and the Jets game yesterday. Currently the Bills are not an exciting team to watch and the cost of tickets at Rogers Centre are way over priced. Strongly suggest dropping ticket prices as I won't go to the next one.

    NFL and TORONTO ARE SYNONYMOUS!

    by GUIDO1 on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

The NFL experience at Rogers Centre was second to none! There aren't many opportunities to experience the NFL in this way, so it is best to do it at the next opportunity! Toronto is ready for an NFL team. We've got a great sports culture in this city and an NFL team that Toronto can call it's own, I hope, will happen in the not-to-distant future. Seeing is believing. An NFL game is something that everybody should see to make them believers!!! Toronto and the NFL go together like spaghetti and tomato sauce!

Good time. Disappointing that the stadium wasn't full, and that a fair few fights started in the crowd in the 4th quarter
