Buffalo Bills Team History

The Buffalo Bills became the seventh team to join the American Football League when Ralph C. Wilson was awarded the franchise in 1959. In 1964 and 1965, the Bills won the AFC Championship, and then-Head Coach Lou Saban was named AFL Coach of the Year for both seasons. After Marv Levy took over as Head Coach in 1986, the Bills won five AFC championships and made four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990–1993. To date, the Bills are the only team to play in four consecutive Super Bowl games.

Since hiring Head Coach Sean McDermott in January 2017, the Bills have made five playoff appearances. In 2022, the Bills made playoff history in a game against the Patriots when they became the first team in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown on each of its first seven drives of a playoff game.

Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium

Since opening in 1973, Highmark Stadium, located in Orchard Park, New York, has been the home to the Buffalo Bills. The stadium underwent several name changes; known as Ralph Wilson Stadium from 1998 to 2015, it was renamed New Era Field in 2016, then Bills Stadium in 2020. Following a new naming rights deal in 2021, its official name is now Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Stadium.

A visit to Highmark Stadium for a Buffalo Bills game is sure to be a loud and high-energy experience, as the team’s fanbase, the Bills Mafia, is arguably the most loyal in the NFL. The group got its start in November 2010 following the upset from a dropped pass by receiver Stevie Johnson that could have resulted in a game-winning touchdown. The hashtag #BillsMafia caught wind on Twitter, and since then the group has been known for their tailgating antics and game-day attire and energy.

I've never been to an event above the 200 level and I certainly won't watch football from that high again. I missed some running plays because I couln't track the ball from so high. Overpriced rather watch on tv

    Good football game

by BobbtT on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

It was a good football game, howerer I would never go to the Rogers center to see any event again. I sat in the 100 section with my knees pressed into the seat in front of me then squeezed by the fans on either side of me. I'm 6'2" 220 lbs and I could understand this if I was really oversized!!!

    Good evening

by ronnyray on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

My wife and I had a nice evening, the game was entertaining and I enjoyed myself. Not sure the Rogers Center is a football friendly stadium, as we felt far from the action from our 215 level, front row seat, but it was nice to was NFL football in Canada.

    Oh what a night

by babybluetig on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

The game was great, nice to be a part of it, except for drunks around me, which didn't impress me too much.. Their was lots of entertainment, more chearleaders than usual (???), but being a Bills fan, they are who I enjoyed watching. The only thing that I found outrageous was the price of parking, $40.00 is plain & simple robbery! The parking rates should be lowered & controlled. It was an experience, but I think next time I'll just watch it on my tv in the comfort of my home.

    Stupefying Noise

by Whirlaway on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

The US game suffers from its antiseptic rules which deprive the kicking game of its excitement . I mean- a fair catch - a touchback- a dead ball. How boring. No quick kicks have been seen in US football since the single wing went out with Tennessee and UCLA. Not a bad experience as I knew what to expect except for the drunk who fell on my seatmate. BUT something must be done about the excruciating NOISE level of inane "music" and pointless PA announcements. One should be able to discuss the field action with a seatmate without requiring a megaphone. If I wanted that kind of a show I would have gone to a midway at the Carnival. Like the ACC - the dumbing down of athletics is sad.

    Wish I brought my pillow

by AGirlWhoLikesFootball on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

That was one of the most boring football games I've ever attended. I got more entertainment from those sitting around me than I did from the actual game. I can't believe I spent that kind of money. Does no one know how to throw a football anymore??? The ball was only airborne during the numerous field goals. There was no entertainment factor at all.

    Drunk Fest

by Wave on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

Football game itself was enjoyable. Marching bands and cheerleaders were good. Prices for beer, hats, T shirts outlandish. The ignorant (drunk, loud and foul mouthed) fans in our section 532 provided a new low in entertainment value. Won't spend that kind of money (4 tickets > $600) again for what I consider a limited return. Give me the CFL, college football (both US & Canadian), hockey or a concert.

    by dondi1966 on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

I had a amazing time! the fans were awesome, well the sober ones anyway. The Jills cheerleaders were heavenly! the only drawback was maybe next time open the Rogers centre a little more earlier, say around 5:30 pm and have a meet and great with the players for 1 hour from 5:30-6:30 pm.with both teams.I feel for the amount of money i paid for my ticket[$285.00 sec 216-row10 seat 8 ] i should had a little bit more for my money.Even meeting the Jills cheerleaders would be worth the ticket, before the game.other than that the next time i go to a N.F.L game the price hopefully will be a lot less!.GO BILLS GO!!!.

the game was really good, pricing was decent but could have been a bit cheaper. possibly getting the GO transit on board with the game and having extened services becasue it was difficult to make it in time for the last train. plus trains were very crowed people had to stand as there were no seats.

    bills in toronto

by cldavies on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

The event was fun, however I've been to many NFL games in the states. It should be held on a weekend and we should be able to tailgate properly. To not have a lots where people can BBQ, throw and football and have a drink doesn't hold well for Cdn. hosting NFL games. As I have heard it called by my American friends, it's a wine & cheese tailgate. The other thing is the half time shows, they are so boring, Rogers center needs to spend a little more time and effort. I will always attend the games as I am a huge NFL fan, but we need to step it up in order to appear like a world class city that can host NFL games, you need th hype and all the regular stuff they do in America

    Meh...

by brownsdowntown on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

I was surprisingly quite disappointed with the experience. There was no electricity like that which exists at the Buffalo home games at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Although I certainly appreciate an NFL game coming to Canada, I'd rather make the drive down to the middle of nowhere outside of Buffalo to experience the pre-game tailgate parties, the actual game, and the post-game activities. The Rogers Centre is an amazing facility but it just doesn't bring fans together like that of the other venues of which I've attended games. The basic premise of this event was to just show up after our dinners at the various restaurants around the stadium, attend the game, and go home. Felt like more of a display event than an actual game that might have meant something. And what's with covering seats that are right next to the field between the 30-yard lines? As a fan, I paid an extraordinary amount of money to be as close to the game as possible. Although I paid for a 3rd row seat, I end up 15 rows back from the field plus the distance to the actual playing field. This was a HUGE disappointment. As for atmosphere -- quietest NFL game I've ever attended and couldn't hear a thing. I'm not talking about the PA announcer, or the referee, or the shotgun blasts -- I'm talking about the field action. I couldn't hear helmets and pads coming together, nor the quarterback's snap count, nor the player's pumping each other up. I've been in the nose-bleed seats at other NFL venues and could hear this stuff -- now I'm '3rd' row and hear absolutely nothing. Thanks for the effort but that will be the last NFL game I ever attend at the Rogers Centre.

Jets Make Bills in Toronto Better

by Larsamundo on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

A lot has been written today about last nights game being a better experience than last year. I think what has been overlooked is the fact that compared to having the fins coming to town, I would be willing to bet that more than a few Jets fans from NYC made the trek north to see the game. In my opinion that made a difference. Energy was better this year, crowd noise better. Still not the same as a game in Buffalo, Cleveland or the Meadowlands but a step in the right direction. Zip on the tailgating front was a big disappointment. One outdoor tent for 19+ left nothing for someone with a kid in attendance. Big let down.

Setting is perfect for NFL game

by TOsuperfan on 2009-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

The game was not the very best due to the lack of offence particularyly in the second half. The venue is terrific for an NFL game as the smaller field fits in with lots of space, great sightlines, and a real feel for it. We sat in the end zone which is great for watching the plays develop and the kicking game. Would recommend it to anybody.

Game was very well attended and organized. Should the Bills be a playoff team in the futrue, the Bills in Toronto series may have some potential.
