Great show. Amazing voice. Tries to get the crowd to sing too much.

About
As they approach their twentieth anniversary, CAKE’s adherence to their original guiding principles has only grown stronger. Formed during the nineties as a somewhat antagonistic answer to grunge, CAKE’s democratic processes, defiant self-reliance, and lucid yet ever-inventive music has made them a nation-state unto themselves, with no obvious peers, belonging to no school. In addition to writing, arranging, producing, and performing their own music, they have taught themselves to engineer their recording projects in their own solar-powered studio, which actually generates more power than is needed to run it, causing the building’s electrical meter to run in reverse. CAKE’s most recent album, Showroom of Compassion, was released on their own Upbeat Records label and debuted on the US Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at #1 during 2011 -- making the album as pure an extension of the DIY aesthetic as ever attempted by an established act.

Cake was awesome!!!!
by Superbee2 on 2011-05-23Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5It was a great concert and I would definitely go see them again. The guys in the band were really great and seemed down to earth. They played two sets which was great and they came on for an on-core to play a couple popular songs. Other than some people being extremely rude and arriving late only to push there way up to the front and blocking the view, the concert was amazing. Everyone should experience seeing them in concert!!!!! ;)
Cake - great live!
by Ildiko on 2011-05-23Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5Sound Academy was the perfect location for Cake. They have a great sound and we were really impressed with them. The trumpet was outstanding.....Only wished they had played "I will Survive"!! All in all a fantastic night - and able to have a great look at the city from the location across the water!
Cake @ Sound Academy
by JenelephantAcewell on 2011-05-23Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5I'm not a fan of this venue; awkwardly shaped, hard to get out of, weird acoustics -- however-- the band was completely worth the trek out. Class act that put on a show worth the money for my 'Rock and Roll Lifestyle'.
Cake - long talks, short songs
by onceafan on 2011-05-23Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5I have to start this with saying that I love CAKE! The lead up to the actual show was fantastic, really enjoyed it! The first "act" was a little slow, but some great songs! I really enjoyed the mixing between old songs and new. The second "act" was great, dancing around, but WAY too much talking... I dunno, it was just a lot of nothing - I over heard people say they found it funny and so cool... but not so sure why
CAKEd on goodness
by Trotz on 2011-05-23Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5CAKE was absolutely BRILLIANT live! They managed to develop a strong connection with the crowd, which made for a very interactive and enjoyable experience. Moreover, they opted to perform a double set, rather than having a group open for them, which really made the experience worthwhile and showed the band has respect for the audiences.

The worst show ever! All 4 of us that went are cake fans on cd but live they stink.
Cake's got it!
by Musicfreak on 2011-05-23Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5Cake is one of these rare performers who have no problem sticking it to the Man. The lead singer has morals and will bring them to the music and was proud of the fact that they released the album on their own. That made the concert even sweeter. There was no "warm-up" band. Cake did the whole show and took a break in the middle. That is unusual and refreshing not to have to listen to someone who may not care about until you get the 'headliner'. Cake engaged the public repeatedly and created a feeling of cohesion that made the music sound even better. The public was heterogenous: young and old, yuppies and hippies... yet they all got along listening to Cake! All in all, an outstanding performance.
Good Band
by Macareno on 2011-05-23Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5CAKE is a great band. The concert was really good, very friendly with the public, they gave away a tree and they sang a good amount of songs. The venue was perfect for the band, not too crowed but definitely was not empty at all.

Great time, a good selection of songs from across the entire discography, interactive with the audience, lots of fun.
A very intimate engagement
by Bugqueen on 2011-02-15The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5Cake for 2.5 hours ...great! They played tons of their old stuff and some of the new! The sound was great....recommend the venue! There was no opening band just --CAKE!
Yummy Cake.
by MIKS on 2011-02-14The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5My second visit to the band brought a lot of fun and nostalgia. This was more about that show than the music if I was to compare it to my 2004 experience with thme but they still, delivered cool, renditions of a lot of their early work. Watch them before they totally sell out.
Evening with CAKE
by vancouverscot on 2011-02-13The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5Great evening - a little sedate for my liking. Ushers kept everyone in line and in their seats, so made enjoying the music a little stifled.
Cake went the distance
by candg on 2011-02-13The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5I was in row C . Huge fan . Was sooooo happy. Going to Toronto show. Don't think that the big block of tickets should be held back and released b4 show. True fans get burned. Did not affect me, bit I heard grumbling. Cake is amazing. Should be interesting to see the show in a sanding venue next time. Cheers fors
Great show. Great venue. Not compatible!
by trose on 2011-02-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5The show was amazing. The venue was outstanding. Cake at this venue - were not a good mix! I wanted to dance....Cake makes me want to dance. There was no dancing allowed! Why could cake want to keep me in my seat? I had to sneak into a different seat just so I could stand up and dance!
Great music - so-so venue.
by jlbea on 2011-02-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5I really enjoyed the band. The music was even better tnan I was expecting and the sound in the venue was good. However, I wasn't that jazzed about the venue over-all. We were in the balcony and it felt a bit disconnected from the performance. In general I find this type of venue less appealing for bands and with the very steep seating this wasn't my favorite. It was very hard to relax. One other thing, I thought there was a bit too much demand for audience participation. Some is okay, but I pay to hear the band sing, not the guy in the seat next to me.
Great concert!
by Liyale on 2011-02-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5wonderful sounds and very playful concert! I love the way the group interact with the people who went to the concert! excellent venue.
