CAMERA OBSCURA IN CONCERT:

Scottish darlings Camera Obscura have been a staple on the indie rock scene ever since their 2001 debut album Biggest Bluest Hi Fi established them as modern torchbearers of the genre's more wistful, melancholy varieties. At the band's stylish live shows, the plaintive vocals of Tracyanne Campbell float whimsically over the band's jangly guitar and percussion work, creating a lush atmosphere that lets gems like "Eighties Fan" and "I Love My Jean" really shine.  The songs may be dreamy, but the band never gets lost in the clouds -- they treat their material with a refreshing energy that never fails to satisfy on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Camera Obscura formed in Glasgow in 1996 and made their recording debut in 1998 with "Park and Ride". Their 2001 full-length debut Biggest Bluest Hi Fi was produced by Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch, and was a hit with critics and fans alike for heavily-blogged tracks like the starry-eyed "Eighties Fan". In 2006 they made their first appearance on the UK Albums Chart with their third LP Let's Get Out of This Country, an effort that landed them a deal with legendary British label 4AD. In 2013 the band released their fifth album Desire Lines, cracking the Top 40 in the UK and thrilling fans around the world with a series of unforgettable concerts in support of the record.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"What a fabulous voice and band! A pure pleasure to experience."

"Wow! This show was fantastic! Everything sounded pretty much perfect. The trumpet player/random percussionist was so much fun to watch... looked like he was having a great time."

"Their stage setup was indeed simple. nothing fancy and no backdrop. but the performance was definitely amazing with them playing most of their hit singles including 'French Navy'. Tracyanne was as vogue as always and the whole band displayed outstanding showmanship."

    Camera Obscura

by Bozely on 2013-06-25Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

It was a great show. The line up was a good mix of old and new songs and the encore was really strong. There were a few technical difficulties but nothing too major. The venue was pretty great as well. A lot people were surprised that there wasn't a larger turn out.

Camera Obscura is the Sweetest Thing!

by alyssa86 on 2009-11-27The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Overall an excellent pop concert. The band played every song I wanted to hear, the crowd was energetic and responsive, and of course the music sounded great. I would go see them again in a heartbeat. I loved the minimalistic stage setup and the overall demeanour of the band, very pleasant and good crowd involvement. I love when a live performance makes me love a band even more, when I didn't know I could possibly love them any more. This was one of those performances. Thank you, Camera Obscura. PS. the merch was great, and reasonably priced. I got a cute peacock shirt for $20 :)

    Not obscured

by Tigger3 on 2009-11-27The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Went to see Camera Obscura for first time , what a show even had the horn player. Tracy and Miss Lander where also incredible, nice to see pretty woman not flaunting there beauty in a obscene fashion. They where very classy, and the band was spot on, very talented musicians. The best show i have seen this year for sure. If you ever have the chance to see this band in person do go ....and hurry they may be very big very soon.

Just as good the second time

by AdamJakedog on 2009-11-27The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

This is the second time this year for me and Camera Obscura. While the first time at Lee's Palace was great because it was a small venue it was the middle of the summer, ridiculously hot and the band wilted as the night went along. Last night was fantastic and the crowd was into it. Not a huge fan of the Phoenix but it worked last night. I would recommend Camera Obscura to anyone.
