I've been bringing my daughters to the Nutcracker every year for the past 17 years missing only the past year due to COVID. It's our tradition to kick off the season with dinner at the NAC followed by the performance. This year one daughter summed it up pretty well by saying 'it's Nutcracker on a budget'. So true. The costumes, the set and even the dancers were lacking. There wasn't the sparkle and dazzle one typically experiences from these performances. It's as though it was put together quickly and they didn't have time to get everything together or money to finish the sets and costumes. Hopefully this year was a one-off. We will continue to go as it is our tradition.
It was great to be back at the NAC. It was a truly wonderful production of the Nutcracker. Loved it!
The Live Orchestra was amazing and the danvers and the scenes just beautiful
Extremely well done and enjoyable ………………………………………..
I The dance was terrific World class ! However I was more than a little disappointed i b the choice
Bravo to the Ballet Company for the youthful telling of a classic story. There was little glitz and glamor by today’s standards but this did not dissuade from the skill and grace that made the evening fun and delightful. So I say Bravo again as my five year old granddaughter did with great gusto. I’m sure she will keep the memories for a lifetime!
My daughter and I go see the Nutcracker at the NAC every year. It is something we really loom forward and enjoy. It would be nice to see some changes year over year. For example, the set in Canada, 1913 we have seen for the past few years. Why not change it to another country or period?
Bravo Tzemenakis and Smith from Ottawa! Your hard work, dedication and love of dance is paying off and adding to so much to many peoples beautiful experience. You ladies are a true delight! I took my mother to see The Royal Winnipeg Ballet at the NAC on December 8th at 7:00. This was her first time seeing it at 80 years of age. She said it was "magical". I've been to the NAC for The Nutcracker numerous times and this one may have been my favorite. The costumes, choreography and the Canadian scenes like the snowy pond hockey game and a fun battle on Parliament Hill, I fell in love.
Story was amazing. Loved the costumes. Beautifully executed!!!
Performance was magical. Always enjoy the Royal Winnipeg Ballets version of this classic.
Excellent production, my 5 year loved her first Nutcracker ballet experience. And the activities available pre show for the little ones were well done. The only thing missing were some Nutcracker souvenirs, my daughter really wanted a little nutcracker to take home.
Beautiful dancers, with a lot of technique, that deserves admirations. The life performance of the orchestra was incredible, almost made me cry. Definitely worth it to be seen every year.
I went to the show with my daughter and grand-daughter for the show on Saturday December 7th at 1:30. The first half was ok but the second half was boring and missed all the anticipated magic. It was simply dancing with no additional characters outside of the ballet dancers. The male character who I think was the lead??? Brown pants, dull. He was distracting and added nothing to the show. Didn't really get why or what his part was. I noticed the children in the audience getting restless during the second half as was I. Not the magical Nutcracker I remember as a child at all..
The Nutcracker by The Royal Winnipeg Ballet has always been my favourite ballet. My family and I go every year to The Nutcracker at the NAC in Ottawa; it is a family Christmas tradition. The NAC orchestra does an excellent job too! Fantastic night out!
Classic , no unnecessary glitz, lively, dreamy. Enchanting music of course. The kids on stage and in the audience seemed to have a lot of fun.
Really enjoyed this child friendly version, in the past the mice and mice king can be scary. Loved the local flavour with the parliament buildings, the “mooching” bear and the polar bears really added to the entertainment value of this performance. This is my seventh Nutcracker ballet and this one was by far my favourite. Well done!!
It was our first time seeing the show and it was everything I dreamed it would be! What made it even more magical was that my boyfriend proposed to me in the park before the show! ❤️ Most magical evening of my life so far.
What better way to kick off the holiday season than watching The Nutcracker - and performed by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet no less! A refreshing mix of brilliant dance intertwined with some humorous moments and topped off with the outstanding music provided by the NAC Orchestra. Can it get any better than that - I think not! Kudos to the bear - you stole the show LOL.
Overall it made for a wonderful night out during the holidays. We learned that you ether a fan of the ballet or not.
