    Cats disappointing

by CATSatNACDisappointing on 2011-02-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I found Cats to be very disappointing. I went to see it not knowing anything about it and was sad to find there was very little story. I really don't care about the character of each "Jellicle cat" (whatever that is supposed to be) unless it relates to the overall story. Since there was no overall story it was just a mish-mash of silly songs. Some songs were repeated in part over and over without the, what I can only guess, is the intended effect. The NAC also had their mics up way to loud, or the sound system in the theater too loud, as some of the songs were so loud it was physically painfull with the notes that were hit. It sounded better when I plugged my ears to get a more normal volume! That being said the performers were excellent and their voices were great, but the show was just boring. If it didn't cost so much money to see I would have left at the intermission. How it is the longest running show I have NO idea.

Cats was action filled with never a dull moment.

by Fritza on 2011-02-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The performance was filled with constant action, fantastic make-up and costumes. The music was as usual by Webber engaging. A must see performance for all.

Love the broadway that comes to Ottawa, but this show wasn't my cup of tea. I like storylines. Also, I didn't realize it was kids night when I booked the presale tickets.

Not worth the money, at all

by rgminottcan on 2011-02-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We were very disappointed; perhap[s our expectations were far too high; we almost left at the intermission, but did not and the 2nd half was better. Cats is not even close to Phantom and that class....at the same price.

I don't understand how this show could be so popular... it is really hard to follow the story line but the dancers are really good

    'CATS' was just great!

by Fatherof4 on 2011-02-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Attended opening night in O'town - truly enjoyed the show. The music was great, the actors were great, the athletic 'cats' displayed great athleticism throughout the show, the more mature 'cats' were, well... maturish - really great. My twenty'ish daughters and my wife and I absolutely enjoyed the show. Well done to everyone involved! Wish we could go again...

no real story no real plot fantastic music & dance

by aztek on 2011-02-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

A musical done in minor keys with the 1st 10 minutes a yawn. A few cats are selected to tell an eventful story. An old feline appears to be shunned by all the other cats and then in the end she is accepted. Not much of a plot!! Thinking perhaps the music came first followed by the play???? Music was great and dancing a combo of ballet & tap, very nice ... oh yes, one opera solo. I enjoyed the production but would not resee it any time soon. It's long!

    Enjoyable

by Cluny on 2011-02-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The Cats show at the NAC made for a fun, but not memorable evening with some very good singers. Worth seeing if your not too critical.

    Cats

by eighty on 2011-02-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

i realize that there wasn't much of a story, and the music is typical Andrew LLoyd Webber and it has been around for 30 years,,,,,but the singing was great and the dancing was magnificent !

    Not my cup of tea

by SassyGal on 2011-02-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The performers sang and danced beautifully but it was not our cup of tea. We preferred Fanthom of the Opera and Fiddler on the Roof. The story lines were more captivating. We left at intermission.

    Visually Fun-- Sonically Muddy

by Flampzot on 2011-02-11National Arts Center - Ottawa

Had never seen the show before. A great looking show, but needs to seriously re-examine its' sound production. Very very difficult to discriminate the lyrics in the numbers, and impossible in the 'big' numbers. It was all in key, but most of the time I could not make out the lyrics ( I was in the second row ). This isn't a big problem if you don't mind sitting through a tuneful but seemingly plot-less show. Great performances weakened by a bad production.

    Unforgettably HORRIBLE

by dragonflyway on 2010-12-08NAC - Ottawa

I can't get over how terribly this show was - no story, amateur acting, no climax, dreadful 80s aura... I had wanted to see it for about 25 years, and now that I have I feel like a chunk of my life has been stolen from me. I sat in agony through the second half and would have left if I hadn't gone with other people.

    Awsome Show

by Crickett2001 on 2010-06-06Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

I would go back in a minute to see this show again! Great singing and dancing. Fantastic costumes. The theatre seating ( I was in the middle of the center section) is very cramped. you cannot even cross your legs. No room.

    The Cats Meow

by RainbowUnicorn on 2009-10-31Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre - Orlando

After seeing about 15 other Broadway Shows over the years, Cats is by far the most entertaining I have ever seen. It was my first Musical about 20 or so years ago. I thought because it was my first, it was my 'favourite'. After seeing it again recently, it really is one of the most entertaining shows. We planned our whole holiday around Cats in Orlando. There were people of all ages enjoying the show. What a great way to introduce young people to Music.
