    mediocre performance

by barnbarn on 2011-02-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Cats was ok-fell asleep during the first act despite flashing christmas lights and strobe light which probed the audience. The jungle music was annoying and repetitive.Woke up for the second act which was a vast improvement-more varied musical score and better dancing. All in all not much of a story to it.Saw it 25 years ago in Toronto-wasn't memorable then either...received tickets as a gift-not my first choice.

    yawn

by maritimerjean on 2011-02-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

It wasn't as good as the one I saw 25 years ago in Toronto, not as glamourous, not as talented, I left after the first act.

    OK.

We found that the acoustics were not good. Hard to hear the words and understand the concept. Voices were not strong enough.

As good as expected!!! Amazing! Sound was great. Lighting and stage setting was nice. Costumes and makeup were beautiful! Second time seeing it and will definitely see it again in a few years!

The costumes were great, and the dancing was amazing, but the storyline was not particularly intriguing. Both my friend and I were very disappointed overall.

    Cats

by plucky on 2011-02-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I was disappointed in the show. I saw Cats the last time it was at the NAC and it was excellent. The cast were very good dancers however I didn't find the vocals very good. 2nd half was better than the first. The scenery in the sets was great.

    I was expecting more

by Robertlan on 2011-02-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I saw several shows in my life and a lot of my friends were telling me that CATS was one of the best. Overall I was desapointed. Not worth a 100.00$ per ticket. Miss Saigon, Les Mis, Phantom of the opera, Mamamia were a lot better then CATS. I saw it and I won't see it again.

    Cats

by Fintan on 2011-02-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Was extremly disappointed with the overall production and venue of the show. The sound system was incredible loud and distorded. One could not make out what they were singing due to the distortion. Sound checks should be performed prior to the show. I was not the only patron that felt this way. I was so excited to see Cats only to leave disappointed beyond belief. On a brighter note the costumes were fabulous.

    CATS not what we expected

by Shakkazulu on 2011-02-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

First off, we appreciated the production and the incredible physical talents of the performers. The dance performances were exceptional. Having never seen Cats, and knowing how famous it is and how long it has been running on Broadway, we jumped at the chance to experience it. The first act was very difficult to follow as the ensemble singing numbers are difficult to understand. The words/lyrics are hard to clearly hear and understand when the whole cast is singing, as they drown each other out. The visual experience far exceeded the auditory one, in my opinion. We deliberately avoided learning of the plot, and in hinsight this was an error as we were confused at times as to what was happening and why. Overall, I walked away appreciating the show, but did not enjoy it as I had expected to.

Cats was not what i expected

by newingovernment on 2011-02-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I dont know what i really expected from Cats, but not what i saw. After hearing the song "Magical mister mistoffeles" i figured that there was a story line based on a magical cat. There was no story line. The first act was each cat singing about what kind of cat they were. The second act - it continued. THere were mini story lines in the second act telling the tale of growl tiger and mister mistoffeles. thats it. this was not a musical. the costumes were great, the actors and actresses talented, makeup fantastic, but no storyline.

Cannot make out the words in the singing

by Natalie01 on 2011-02-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Wait for another show - Cats is out of date and produced with partially recorded music and extremely poor sound quality for the songs - only one singer in the bunch that has a nice voice. The dancing was well done. No set changes in the full first half of the show. 1970's styled show. Nearly all songs cannot be understood. We left early. - waste of money

    Sorry I went

by Kasandra on 2011-02-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Orpheus group in Ottawa could have done just as well. I have seen the original play in Toronto when it first started. This one is a pale imitation. The Christmas lights were what they were and did not contribute to the play.

    Cats

by 68red71 on 2011-02-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

disappointing - can't put my finger on why, just didn't compare to the Cats production that I had seen so many years ago at the NAC. Wouldn't see this group again. couldn't make out the words to the songs enough of the time that I had difficulty following the story. a bit glitzy

    Cats is the perfect title.

by ww61 on 2011-02-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Costumes were great, music was great, staging was great but the sound system was not totally efficient for those in the mezzanine. We found it distorted and hard to understand what the characters were saying.

    CATS was incredible!

by desjbre on 2011-02-12National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Thought I would have been too close seeing CATS in the first row but definitely not ... it was incredible and the makeup costumes was awesome!

I actually didn't go to the performance myself, I bought tickets for my daughters and their husbands. They indicated that the sound was not always clear enough to hear the words, which made it difficult to follow the underlying story for those who hadn't seen it before.
