About

Cher on Tour

There's a very good reason Cher is often described as an artistic chameleon. An award-winning musician and actress with a larger-than-life personality and compassionate heart, she has spent more than 50 years cultivating a singular career driven by risk-taking and an embrace of modern trends.

The California-born star cut her teeth singing backup on Phil Spector productions (including The Ronettes' "Be My Baby"), but she truly kick-started her musical career in the mid 1960s alongside then-husband Sonny Bono. The duo made pop-rock hits such as "I Got You Babe" and "The Beat Goes On," and they kept their public profile high by starring in a successful TV show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour.

Cher found even more enduring success when she stepped out on her own, especially musically. In the early '70s, she landed at No. 1 with the mystical folk-rocker "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves" and the string-swept, theatrical soul-pop gem "Dark Lady." In the late '80s, the brash, hard rock-influenced "I Found Someone" and "If I Could Turn Back Time" connected on the charts. The late '90s saw her emerge with the upbeat, electro-pop worldwide smash "Believe," which earned the 2000 Grammy for Best Dance Recording. Cher also excels as a musical interpreter; her versions of the R&B classic "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)" and Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis" especially demonstrate vocal versatility and range.

In the '80s, she became more serious about her movie career and acted in multiple well-received films. She won major awards for this work, notably the 1983 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for Silkwood and the 1988 Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Moonstruck.

Cher's creative spirit and drive remain vibrant. In 2018, her turn in the ABBA-inspired movie musical hit Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (which included a dynamite duet with actor Andy Garcia on "Fernando") led to her recording Dancing Queen, an album of ABBA covers.

The setlist of Cher's 2019 Here We Go Again Tour includes several of these exuberant disco gems, in addition to major hits culled from her storied catalog. As usual, the concert also is an eye-popping visual extravaganza driven by exquisite stage decor and intricate choreography. The centerpiece is Cher herself, who commands the stage with glitzy costumes (and multiple outfit changes), charismatic banter, and her powerful, magnetic voice.

    Toronto show

    by KL17 on 2019-12-03Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Opening act was amazing. Cher then had us wait over 40 mins. I enjoyed the show would have liked to hear some older tunes. Enjoyed the homage to Sonny.

    Cher Concert

by Boom on 2019-12-03Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

All performers were great - from Nile Rodgers/Chic to Cher so the price of admission was worth it. What was not worth it, and not very professional, was the 45-minute wait between the opening act which finished at 9:00 pm and 9:45 pm when Cher finally appeared. No explanation, no apologies given for the very long intermission.

by Zotchka on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Loved Cher but didn’t love her 40’s birthday speech after waiting 45 minutes for her to start!! Boring!! Would have loved more songs — even more of the oldies. My daughter was very disappointed that she didn’t sing ‘Jessie James’! Would have liked that much better than her reminisce. Love that Cher is 73 and still has a lovely pair of gams! Thanks for turning back time! I’m gonna be 67! Xoxo

    Cher Concert

by Rip on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

The show was good...not great. I had hoped to hear more Cher songs. The show started 45 minutes late and then she talked to the crowd for about 20 minutes so the concert itself seemed very short.

    73 no stopping Cher

    by Brit-john-canada on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Cher performed to a sold out arena, she was a little late, but justified that by sticking her head around the curtain and giving us a wave whilst mouthing i'm sorry. She started strong and finished stronger. Hit after Hit costume change for every part of the show complete with wig, the whole thing was just amazing her voice was perfect. why i have waited this long to see this lady perform is beyond me. But when she is on your Bucket list it makes it even more special to spend an evening with this lady. Thank you Cher

    Cher (320 section)

    by Toronto83 on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

None of the Large TV screens were on and as we were looking down sideways at the show from high up it meant it was hard to find the visual. Disappointing

    Loved It

    by M. M. on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Apart from Cher talking for 10-15 minutes straight off the top of the show, we thought that it a fabulous show. Loved the songs with Sonny and the Abba songs that she sung. She is quite the woman for a 73 year old!

    The Cher Spectacle

by Lyndsay G on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Loved the warm up group - Nile Rodgers and Chic. They related well to the audience. It took far too long for Cher's entrance. The feeling went cool as it was a rudely long wait. She twittered on the stage for 15 minutes about herself. That set the vibe (i.e. all about her) ad nauseum. We were there to see her put on a dynamite show, but to also engage with her audience. Her way is to change her garb frequently, which was okay and more than fabulous, but it was all about 'admire me and especially at my age'! I felt that she only engaged well with the 'groupie' folk who would love her despite everything. My friend and I were hoping for her to reach out to touch her audience in an emotional and magical way. Nah. It didn't happen .... at least for us. Plus, she didn't praise her hard working musicians. No intro to them. Nope. It was all Cher. Was she lip syncing? Body chemistry showed that there was no depth to her singing. When you sing, your body shows it. Well, I'm glad that's off my bucket list. Good luck to her. Her earlier days were more real than Friday's show.

    Good w reservations

    by Cher&cheralike on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Enjoyed the show overall. She still has a great voice, good musicians, good choreography. But would be better .... - we were in high corner seats and could not see the middle big screen because of the lights in the way - She did not come on till 9:30, a full half hour after the warmup act (which was very good) ended. She should be on the stage by 9:15. - I would have preferred her to have done more of her golden hits. 3 Abba songs was too much, one would have represented that part of her history about right.

    Best Concert Ever

    Good

by David on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Usually I give a 5 star but being 45 minutes late and not saying anything about it was disappointing and the monologue about her 40th birthday was kind of long. Other than that--the concert and stage productions were good. I have seen her every time she has come to Toronto since way back in the 80's...

    Get a watch

by Health builder on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

The Chic was loud and just not the calibre of the opening acts Cher has had in the past. Really gave me a headache. Then waiting for 55 minutes after that was really unprofessional. No announcements explaining why. The performance was typical Cher! She looks amazing for any age let alone 73. Great show.

    Best concert ever!!!

by Maka on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Loved everything - Cher, the production (dancers, vids, lights, etc.). She is unbelievable at 73!! Voice is 99% of what it used to be. Incredible! Go see her before she (really) stops touring.

The concert was amazing; the only stickler was it was running behind and there was no communication as to why or when the show would begin.

    The performance was deafening.

by Lee on 2019-12-02Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

At times I had to cover my ears because the sound system was so loud. The rambling dialogue about Cher's 40th birthday made no sense. The fact that she is able to perform at the age of 73 is amazing. The show was three quarters of an hour late in starting. People were very restless waiting. This was our third Cher concert and we recognized some of the same costumes and recycled elephant. We love Cher and have always enjoyed her concerts but this will be the last of her concerts we will attend. We wish her well.
