    Chicago was great!

by BroadwayLover on 2009-07-16National Arts Centre - Ottawa

I have been waiting for this show for so long and it finally came to Ottawa and it definitely did not disapoint! The songs were great but the dancing was spectacular. This cast could dance like nothing I have seen before. My friend made a comment "they were dancers that could sing; not singer that could dance" and I found that very true. It was a very nice change to see a Broadway show like that!

    Where was the dancing?!?!?

by SweetSurrender on 2009-07-16National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Chicago is supposed to be spectacular through its choreography. The set is great and as it should be. The costumes were good, but without great dancing, end up being dull monotonous in the end. Yes, the chorus dancers were quite good and really stole the show. But I was HUGELY disapointed by the leads. "Roxie" looked and moved like a 50 year old who is scared of hights. "Velma" had very little spark and seemed to only know one dance move which she repeated over and over and over. "Mama" was obviously chosen because of her movie credits. Yes, she can sing, but she did nothing to emit the sentiments of her songs. Acting is not one of her strong points. The highlights of the show were "Amos" and "Billy". "Amos" especially was exaclty right. He sang and played his character as if he were born to it. All in all, it was enjoyable, but I would have been very upset if I had had to pay full price for the tickets.

    Loved it!

Chicago was amazing! Sultry, sexy, funny, and we knew all the songs so we sang along.

    Chicago

The music and actors and actresses were all top notch, but the play lacked a clear storyline.

    Chicago was a great disappointment

by Latewest on 2009-07-16National Arts Centre - Ottawa

My two daughters and I try to see every major production at the NAC along with many local theatre productions. All three of us were very disappointed in this production. It had none of the glitz and glamour that we were expecting. While the lady who played Roxy was very good the lady playing Velma was weak. The scenary was boring especially since it was used during the entire production. I don't feel that it was worth the money. Can't wait for Grease.

    Chicago was extremely entertaining!

by Jedi on 2009-07-16National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Amazing how creative this show was without having any costume changes and hardly any scene changes at all. Very captivating and entertaining.

    Chicago was terrible

by jenner on 2009-07-16National Arts Centre - Ottawa

I may have just seen to many shows. I found it very boring. No set changes and at times hard to follow. We left at intermission.

    Chicago at the NAC

by bgenier on 2009-07-16National Arts Centre - Ottawa

This musical was good however I felt like it missed an element of wow! It might be because most of the audience had seen the movie and the dancing and singing in the movie was exceptionnal but there was no wow.

    Chicago was okay

by IrishJenn on 2009-07-16National Arts Centre - Ottawa

I loved the movie Chicago when I saw it so I was really excited to see the musical. However I was a little disappointed after seeing it. The singing/music was really good. The woman that played Momma was absolutely incredible! But the dancing was pretty terrible, especially the woman that played Velma. It really surprised me because the woman that played Velma originated the role! And because the dancing in the movie is amazing! The movie was so entertaining, but I was a little bored during the musical.

A Great Show, but Clumpy Choreography

by thezoophyte on 2009-07-15National Arts Centre - Ottawa

This production of Chicago really delivered in the musical aspect of the show, but seemed to be slightly lacking in the choreography department. Multiple solo numbers were belted out beautifully by the performers, but from a single position on stage. Much of the choreography seemed very muddled and odd, leaving the audience wondering if it was due to error or simply artistic choice. All in all it was an entertaining show, but not the strongest production.

    Wild!

by Mizza on 2009-07-15National Arts Centre - Ottawa

I went in expecting to be dazzled, and was not disappointed. The show was pretty wild, with serious overtones rippling beneath a raunchy, humerous exterior. Besides the main cast, Mr. Cellophane and Mamma performed their roles to a tee.

    Funny, catchy, exhilirating musical!!!

by CAinOttawa on 2009-07-15National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Fabulous musical with great music and amazing dancing. Entire cast was right on the mark with the singing and dancing. Much more risqué and "hot" than the original Chicago from the 1960s, but very funny too. Just loved it though I had seen it many times before in New York. My friend who had never seen it was just blown away. Great fun. We sat in the first row and for this type of almost "concert" musical it was perfect. We both highly recommend.
