Coldplay on Tour

Coldplay is one of the best-loved British rock bands in the world, with numerous tours, top sellers and awards to their name. Formed in 1996, the band's original line-up comprised Chris Martin, the lead vocalist, and Jonny Buckland, the lead guitarist, who met at University College in London. Originally the band was called Pectoralz, which later became Starfish after the bassist, Guy Berryman, joined along with drummer Will Champion, who also plays multiple instruments and provides backing vocals.
The band finally decided on the new name Coldplay in the same year that they recorded and released their first three EPs: Safety, released in 1998, the single “Brothers and Sisters,” released a year later and “The Blue Room,” also released in 1999. This last single was the band's first major label release with Parlophone. Collaborations include recordings with Jay Z, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna, and the band have also said that Travis were a major influence on their early work, along with Muse, Kate Bush, George Harrison and Echo and the Bunnymen. Later influences include Arcade Fire and My Bloody Valentine.
It was their single “Yellow” released in 2000, that launched the band to instant international acclaim, and their debut album, Parachutes, followed later that year, receiving Mercury Prize nominations. Coldplay's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, released in 2002, also received widespread critical praise and won a range of awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year award from NME. The next album release was X & Y, which was also well received, and the fourth album release was Viva la Vida, or Death and All His Friends in 2008, which earned them a number of wins at the Grammy Awards. Their fifth album, Mylo Xyloto was a chart topper in 34 countries.
The band has also won a large number of awards, including seven Grammys, five MTV Music Awards, and eight BRITs, with over 25 nominations in all. Coldplay have sold over 60 million records across the world and have toured extensively across Europe, the Americas, Australia, Asia and Africa. They also strongly support a range of political and social causes and have performed extensively in charity concerts, including Live 8, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Band Aid 20, Hope for Haiti Now, Sound Relieve and the Secret Policeman's Ball.

    Coldplay was unbelieveable!

by Seaker on 2009-07-15Gorge Amphitheatre - George

From the opening song "Life in Technicolour" Coldplay's energy was palpable. The band connected with the audience every possible moment; Chris Martin was incredible at involving everyone in the show. Pure energy for every song - performed with passion and prescision. An amazing performance that left you feeling completely fullfilled at the end. Fantastic!

I've seen Coldplay 3 times now and they just keep getting better and better. I wasn't a fan before I saw them play live but quickly changed my mind. Now having seen them at the best venue in the world, I don't know how concerts can get much better. Awesome!!

    Coldplay was awesome!

by Kook on 2009-07-14The Amphitheater at Clark County - Ridgefield

In complete darkness music filled the air, slowly lights were introduced and finally the band was visable. The best sound and visual concert followed. My husband and I attend performances weekly. This was the best so far. Felt appreciated as a fan as the band checked in with the crowd, performed from three different places in the venue and everyone was given a free CD of a live performance as we left for the evening. Coldplay is a definite must see class act.

    Coldplay Under The Stars

by northpacredsands on 2009-07-14The Amphitheater at Clark County - Ridgefield

Amazing. One of my top concerts of all times. Nothing more needs to be said about this great band and the nice venue with fresh air! My only tiny complaint is about the venue - waiting for 1 hour and 45 min. to exit the parking lots. I am from another city/country and not used to the crush of people leaving all at once. I guess it's because you sort of HAVE to drive to the venue: no buses/light rail/parking a few blocks away to help disperse the people.

    Unforgetable experience

by travellinggal on 2009-07-14Gorge Amphitheatre - George

FIrst of all, there could not be a more gorgeous setting for a concert. The Gorge is amazing! That said, Coldplay stole the show from the spectacular view. The show was as expected and more!! Chris is very personable and even after over a hundred previous shows on this tour, still had incredible energy and seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. C.P interacted with the crowd and even had surprise stages in the crowd they came and sang at. They also did a tribute to MJ by singing Billy Jean..awesome!!!

First concert ever, blew me away

by foodi on 2009-07-13DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Concert was amazing, apart from getting to DTE, driving through a random forst - as well as leaving when it was a big cluster, it was one of the best experience ever.

    Coldplay was fantastic!!

by alibali on 2009-07-13DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

What a fantastic night. Two good opening acts and then Coldplay. Two hours of great music followed. I didn't think I knew many of their songs ( I was taking my two daughters to the concert) I quickly found out I had heard most of the songs at one time or other. Coldplay really played to the fans, thanking them for attending the concert, changing words to songs to personalize them for all of us. When we left everyone who attended the concert was given a CD with I believe 9 or 10 songs on it. We listened to the whole thing while waiting to get out of the parking lot (I think we sat in the same spot for on hour).

    As Great as the weather

by Napoleon on 2009-07-13DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

A very well organized event. The experience of staff paved the way to a successfull event. With an arsenal of songs to cheer the crowd, Coldplay did a great job promoting their new songs and mixing in a few soon-to-be classics. Performing around the venue was a nice way for fans to interact with the band. The free live cd at the end of the show was a nice touch to keep fans thinking of the night whenever they play the cd in the future.

    awesome!!!!

by hoover on 2009-07-13Gorge Amphitheatre - George

Coldplay and the venue was excellent. I was the same show a few weeks ago and it was just a good the second time around. My only complaints were the handling of the people that rushed the gates, the price for a cup of water....$5. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I was also looking forward to seeing Snow Patrol. The opening acts were okay...but not what you would expect to warmup for Coldplay.

    Coldplay/June2009

by Zoolander on 2009-07-13DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Coldplay put on a good show. They really made very good use of the grounds, pavillion and lawn. They moved around so that everyone got a good view at some point during the show. Quite a spectacle with leaves released from the ceiling as a grand finale. Overall, good pace and very enjoyable .

An beautiful experience through and through

by BCGirl on 2009-07-13Gorge Amphitheatre - George

It was our first time at the Gorge Amphitheatre, WA. What a spectacular setting for this unbelievable performance. From start to finish we were impressed. From the helpfullness and courtesy of the security guards, to the staff of the campground and the Gorge Amphitheatre - everything was well organized, well appointed and it was smooth sailing all the way!! We had floor seats, and arrived about 45mins before Coldplay went on. The opening acts were great. We sat in Row 18, and we had a perfect view of everything. Coldplay were fantastic. They came on stage just as the sun was setting, and the cascades of reds, and orange light down the Columbia River Valley made for an almost sureal backdrop to the show. It was one of those performances when you just can't believe how perfect everything was. Anyone who is a true Coldplay fan needs to see them live.
