About

Coldplay on Tour

Coldplay is one of the best-loved British rock bands in the world, with numerous tours, top sellers and awards to their name. Formed in 1996, the band's original line-up comprised Chris Martin, the lead vocalist, and Jonny Buckland, the lead guitarist, who met at University College in London. Originally the band was called Pectoralz, which later became Starfish after the bassist, Guy Berryman, joined along with drummer Will Champion, who also plays multiple instruments and provides backing vocals.
The band finally decided on the new name Coldplay in the same year that they recorded and released their first three EPs: Safety, released in 1998, the single “Brothers and Sisters,” released a year later and “The Blue Room,” also released in 1999. This last single was the band's first major label release with Parlophone. Collaborations include recordings with Jay Z, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna, and the band have also said that Travis were a major influence on their early work, along with Muse, Kate Bush, George Harrison and Echo and the Bunnymen. Later influences include Arcade Fire and My Bloody Valentine.
It was their single “Yellow” released in 2000, that launched the band to instant international acclaim, and their debut album, Parachutes, followed later that year, receiving Mercury Prize nominations. Coldplay's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, released in 2002, also received widespread critical praise and won a range of awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year award from NME. The next album release was X & Y, which was also well received, and the fourth album release was Viva la Vida, or Death and All His Friends in 2008, which earned them a number of wins at the Grammy Awards. Their fifth album, Mylo Xyloto was a chart topper in 34 countries.
The band has also won a large number of awards, including seven Grammys, five MTV Music Awards, and eight BRITs, with over 25 nominations in all. Coldplay have sold over 60 million records across the world and have toured extensively across Europe, the Americas, Australia, Asia and Africa. They also strongly support a range of political and social causes and have performed extensively in charity concerts, including Live 8, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Band Aid 20, Hope for Haiti Now, Sound Relieve and the Secret Policeman's Ball.

    COLDPLAY was AMAZING!!!

by VIKA on 2009-07-13DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

I went to see the show with my son as we both listen to their music. The weather was beautiful and we sat on the grass centre from the stage. The sound was perfect just like you were listening to your IPOD and the visual performance from the band unbelievable. They were so amazed of the size of the crowd because there was a hockey game on the same night. They gave 110% moving to smaller stages in the crowd. They are true performers yet despite their stardom are still humble. They interacted with the audience and also gave out a free Live CD as their thanks. I've seen alot of concerts and this one by far was the best. Even the parking was perfect. I parked near the exit and was out of the venue in 10 minutes and on my way home listening to my free CD. My only complaint I wished they could have played on and on. I would definitely go to see them again.

    Coldplay - Mind Blowingly AMAZING!

by MissyKrisy on 2009-07-13DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Not only did Colplay sound absolutly amazing, they put on an AMAZING show. From the ballons, to the random stages, to there amazing vocals. They got the crowd involved and made it very apparent that they were just as happy to be there as the crowd was to see them. They talked about detroit and michigan and even included us in some of there song lyrics. Overall one of the best performances/bands out there :)

    Colplay was awesome!

by beverage on 2009-07-13Gorge Amphitheatre - George

the concert was great. Really awesome sound there. This is my husband and I's 3rd trip down to the Gorge. We've come from Victoria for these shows. It is our favorite place to see concerts now. To see arena shows now would not be the same for us. We love the Gorge. The concert was awesome. It was a beautiful night overlooking the Columbia. I like how the band played at different places too other than the stage. That was really cool how they went up to the back, that must have been amazing for the people up there. They also played up to the side of us, that was really cool to see them quite up close. We liked the stage props too, and the screen that showed the close ups of Chris playing piano. Really cool. We'll definitely see another show there.

    A perfect 10 out of 10!!!

by shottyyo on 2009-07-13Gorge Amphitheatre - George

Fantastic doesn't even begin to describe the event - The Gorge was beautiful, as always, the hot sunny day turned into a beautiful evening with an amazing sunset, blues, pinks, purples and orange streaked the across the sky just at Coldplay started. They played all their best songs, had the crowd wrapped around their little fingers from start to finish. For those of us in the "cheap seats" they surprised us with a platform stage 20 feet away. An acoustic Billie Jean, shout out to MJ, was received with screams of delight from the fans... everything was phenomenal!!!!!!!

    Coldplay + Gorge = a night I'll never forget !!

by phnguyen on 2009-07-13Gorge Amphitheatre - George

The Gorge is pretty much the best outdoor venue I'll been to. The view of the Columbia river is beautiful and the mountains made a wonderful background. Coldplay always put on a good show. Chris Martin was even amazed by the amount of people that attended. Overall, it was a night to remember. The people, the music and the venue... I can't ask for anything any better.

Coldplay at the Gorge!! An evening to remember...

by Shanoogie on 2009-07-13Gorge Amphitheatre - George

Even though the seating was tight, everyone was in great spirits, and the weather played 'nice' ... pretty important as you take in the awe-inspiring views from our perch above the Columbia River valley! As the sun sets, the lights start to dance, and we get our first taste of what was to be a nurturing ride down memory lane with Chris and the band -- from Yellow to Viva la Vida, they were solid and authentic to each song, with a little fun & frolicking thrown in, some crowd acknowledgments, and a tribute to MJ -- who could ask for more? Ah yes, but then came the crowd fun (balloons and a few times when the band actually ran into the crowd to play on these mini-stages that had been setup ... a real treat for those that couldn't get seats up close). Some in the end could practically touch the band even though they were up on the ridge. :-) A testament to the kindness of Coldplay...

    Epic

by Justin on 2009-07-12Gorge Amphitheatre - George

Absolutely flawless. But I would suggest getting mosh pit tickets at all costs. It's way better and it's the one thing I regret not doing.

    coldplay warming up

by roch on 2009-07-12The Amphitheater at Clark County - Ridgefield

The band seemed a like they were finding their timing for the first part of the show. Chris seemed tired, his vocals didn't have the oomph behind them they sometimes do. The second half of the show they seemed to be warmed up and found their groove. Timing was more 'on', and the vibe seemed to flow more, Chris's voice found more strength. Their sense of caring about the audience was clear and much appreciated.
