  • R4R - Disappointment

by jewelmine on 2010-06-26Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 3 out of 5

I was quite disappointed at this concert. We paid a lot of money for a so-so concert but it was for an excellent cause. Trooper opened the show just screaming and even tho they were good, they were far too loud so could not understand the words. The band was introduced nicely and they played a great medley of hits. No encore tho - darn! Colin James was quite disappointing. He is a great guitarist and no one can take that away but that's what most of it was, hm showing off his guitar playing. We only recognized 3 or 4 hits and they were not done till the end. Through his show, many people were getting up and leaving on a regular basis. The music was boring, not interesting, mostly blues and I would have walked also except kept hoping for better. If another R4R concert was done next year, I strongly recommend alternate entertainment for the show. I will never pay $$ to see him again.

  • Colin James is Pure Delight!

Colin James is an amazing guitarist! His guitar work is like magic. I'd recommend seeing Colin James wherever he's playing. The band was so tight, they were spot on for every song. It was pure delight.

  • Trooper and James - Great Canadian Music

by Britradiogirl on 2010-06-26Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

Trooper were a very pleasant surprise! I love their hard rocking sound and they did all the songs we wanted to hear. Might buy their compilation album when it comes out on July 1st. What can I say about Colin James? He gave 110% and was 110% amazing!! Fantastic support band - very tight - wonderful backing vocals by the other two guitarists. Sax player was the best I've ever heard. Colin was true to his craft and played for over 1-1/2 hours. Great songs we love to hear and encored with "Into The Mystic". He's a master of the guitar (move over Clapton - yes, I've seen him live this year and Colin is better). His vocals are pitch-perfect and soulful. He owns the stage and lets you think he's playing just for you. He also talks to his audience and has an obviously good time. Love, love, love this guy and his talented bandmates. Can't wait for the next show.

  • trooper was awesome!!

Trooper set the bar real high as they rocked down the house! They were amazing and quickly developed a great bond with the audience. Colin James was good, but boring and had no stage presence. Amazed to see strems of people walking out all during his set---myself included after I just couldn't take another song the same as the last.

  • Colin J & Trooper

Colin out did himself as expected. He's an excellent musician & entertained his audience. I believe Trooper was a little loud for the venue but the music was worth listening to & both bands illustrating such great efforts for such a good cause.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had a fabulous time, even thought I had to go by myself as my husband couldn't make it. The talent of both performers was awesome. I was watching the screen most of the time for Colin James . The way his fingers move over the guitar is fantastic. I have decided to update my cd library with some new Colin James. Trooper made me want to jump out of my seat and just dance :):)

Its going to be sad when guys like this retire. Not many new-b's that can play the axe anymore without digital and electronic help. "Long Live Real Rock And Roll" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Colin James worth the wait!

by scigeek on 2010-02-12Hamilton Place Theatre - HamiltonRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was exceptional. Colin was joined by some new bandmates, who were former members of the "Odds", a well-known group from the 1990s University circuit. Though Colin didn't make his appearance until after 9pm, his performance quickly made us forget about the delay. The band was tight, with a wide range of songs being played, from some of his best-loved hits to songs from his latest release. All in all a great show and well worth it!

I only wish Colin would appear more frequently in the Southern Ontario area. Love to see him in concert with Jack DeKeyser at a local bar some night,,,,,but that's dreaming. Yes, I'm a big fan. There were some things not good about the concert. The opening act didn't mesh well with Colin's music and certainly didn't warm up the audience. A solo guitar singer, who's name I can't remember right now, who had a fine voice but IMO was better suited to a coffee house situation. He simply didn't get the crowd warmed up. There was about a 30 minute break between this act and Colin coming on. So, why bother with an opening act? Colin played most of the material from his new Rooftops & Satellites CD which was great for those of us who have been listening to this for a few months now. However it seemed like most of the crowd wasn't very familiar with this material....the crowd just wasn't alive IMO. The only disappointment was he didn't play my fav Better Way To Heaven. I thought he was holding it for his encores but that wasn't the case. The encore consisted of three other numbers.

Both my husband and I said that this was one of the best concerts we have ever been to. The band was really tight and Colin James is one of the best guitarists around. Extremely entertaining all the way through. Just wished we could have been able to get up and dance.

  • Colin James Exceptional as always!!!!

by Melee on 2010-02-02Hamilton Place Theatre - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Great opening act for Colin James, Jesse Labelle totally awesome singer and performer...never seen him before. Colin as usual mixed it up quite well and vocals and sound system at Hamilton Place is second to none. Autograph signings at the end of both performances adds a personal touch and shows how well grounded both these performers are and how they really do care about their fan base. Well Done!!!!!

  • Colin James Rocks!

by VeeNiagara on 2010-02-02Hamilton Place Theatre - HamiltonRating: 4 out of 5

Great concert. Colin James never disappoints! For a white Canadian boy, he sure does know the Blues! Great voice and fantastic guitar skills. He entertains and speaks directly to the audience. The smaller venue was great, but he's best in a bar where there's room to get up and dance. His band is fantastic and a pleasure to watch as well as listen. Loved it!

by TipperaryGirl on 2010-02-01National Arts Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

I went to see Suzie McNeil, the opening act, and was blown away by Colin James. Every single song he sang was brilliant. My favourites were Johnny Coolman and Man's Gotta Be a Stone.
