this was defenitly my favourite event so far this year, with george thorogood coming up soon, its bound to be a great year. He puts on a great show, and for a close to home act hes the most intimaite and the funniest show too, he was always crackin jokes, what a great guy.

  • Canada's apple pie!

by Energy on 2010-01-24Pantages Playhouse Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Colin James was fantastic....he rocked! Whether he played so masterfully his new tunes or mesmerized us with his vast collection of musical gems from his 13 records. He gives me an energy buzz that few can, right up there with ACDC, You shook me all night long! He gets the vibrations up there and just keeps it there....not once in 2 hours did he take a sip of anything.....yet he sang every tune, he is a pro....a masterpiece .....his guitar skills make me think of a younger Eric Clapton! Winnipeg was blessed Saturday night by a gem of Master and his incredible band. Only thing is would of liked to hear more of his swing collection but he can come back with another concert of just that would be tickety boo as well! We love you here in the heart of the continent, Colin! Susie McNeil was a real treat and what a sweatheart and a perfect opening act for him. She is force to be with!

  • Super talented

by TiBo on 2010-01-24Pantages Playhouse Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

This is my fourth time seeing Colin James and as usual, he doesn't disappoint. He is truly amazing, gifted and I am so proud he is Canadian. He deserves all the accolades and the recognition that he so richly deserves. He is so humble and caring and just a great human being. If we should be so lucky as to have him back in Winnipeg, you can bet I will be there to enjoy this talented musician/songwriter/singer/entertainer. Go Colin!

  • Colin James from the Balcony

by brckwrth on 2010-01-24Pantages Playhouse Theatre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Colin James show at the Pantages Playhouse was OK. Don't get me wrong CJ was great! 2 solid hours of back to back songs. He is a master blues man and rocker ! And visually it looked like a great show. But I'm sure that the people on the main floor heard a different concert than we poor souls in the balcony did. The sound quality from the upper balcony was dismal. The voice quality was poor very tinny with no midrange. We could not hear what CJ was saying between tunes. The bass guitar was way too loud drowning out most of everything else. The keyboards were not even audible. I'm not sure if the sound system was Colin James' touring system or if it belongs to the Playhouse. If it was CJ's ... I would ask that the sound man to also go and sit up in the Balcony during the sound check. If it was the Playhouse's then they really need to think about putting some speakers up in the balcony intentionally tailored for that theatre. While I'm usually not a huge fan of more decibels... you know the sound was poor when the people behind you talking in not very loud voices are drowning out the vocals. While I like to support live music, I will not be doing it again from the balcony at Pantages.

  • Colin James was good.

by Zipp on 2010-01-24Pantages Playhouse Theatre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

I enjoyed the concert last night but not as much as one I went to a couple of years ago. He has gone back to his old style of music and we missed the songs he did like the ones on the CD "Colin James and the Little Big Band 3". It felt more like being in a bar than at a first rate concert. He does love his guitar - that is very obvious as he played about five different ones during the concert. The first five or six songs all sounded the same. I hope he goes back to the mixed music he performed with the Little Big Band.

  • Colin James was uplifting

by Johnni on 2010-01-24Pantages Playhouse Theatre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Colin James & Suzie McNeil rocked the house in the Peg. They had the enthusiasm of the crowd. From his rock and roll guitar playing and tunes to his mind blowing bluesy tunes... You rock. I was excited and uplifted in this concert. Also appreciated their kind hearts in having World Vision with them... You are definitely doing your part! Man can he play the guitar. His band was awesome. I never heard of Suzie before, but defnitely enjoyed her gig... will be purchasing her cd. She's an up and rising star!

Having never been to the pantages venue before, i was not sure what to expect. Wow, i was totally impressed! Small, intimate theater with big sound. Colin james was great, just like i remember 20 years ago on muchmusic. A great mix of old colin james classics, blues & some awesome new material. His voice sounded great, never missed a note & the man still plays a wicked guitar! I hope he comes back to winnipeg again soon. Thanks for a great show!

  • Colin James Rocked!!

    by CLC09 on 2010-01-24Pantages Playhouse Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts that we have attended for sure! The venue was awesome for it's seating, sound, and ticket prices. The opening performer Susie McNeil was also really good. Colin came onto the stage right at 9:00pm and did not stop performing until 11:00pm. He was incredible! We were also very very happy and fortunate to have front row seats (1st row below the stage) which was awesome!! And we were able to take home some excellent photos of the event as well. It was a totally exceptional night!

Colin James' combination of blues, jazz & rock delivers a great concert! His voice and guitar are amazing - didn't just take me back to the days of Voodoo Thing & Five Long Years, but made me appreciate this great Canadian talent even more. Thanks for a great evening!

by bimmer on 2010-01-24Pantages Playhouse Theatre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Colin James played for 2 hours and I'm sure played 10 different guitars. This show was all about the guitar and James is one of the greats. His band was also excellent providing a hard driving backup performance. Sax player was very good. Great concert

  • Magical Guitars

by SavaryIsland on 2010-01-22Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Colin James' guitar solos were outstanding. He switched guitars for nearly every single song....loved the acoustic guitar piece. He played all of my favorite classic songs (Into the Mystic). The songs on his new record were great too. There was a nice mix of ballads and jazzy blues. I was really excited to be given a VIP back stage pass and enjoyed meeting him in person! Colin took the time at the end of the concert to sign CD's and posters....nice end to the evening.

  • colin james always good

by GerryC on 2010-01-22Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Played allot from his most recent release and I loved it. Some old tunes that I always like to hear. Blues-ee music was sweet and rockin out was great with past hits too. Keep it up Colin. See ya next time I just want better seats next time. Left Terrace, sound sucked over there. It's a big deal to me and ruins the show if I can't hear every little riff and nuance of Colin's guitar playing. He amazes me every time.

the entire show was great, Suzie McNeil was a great lead-in for Colin James! Colin James was great and his band was really solid, a terrific assembly of musicians, well worth seeing and TCU place is so nice to catch a quality band like that, comfortable and good accoustically, I will go see him next time again!

  • Colin James disappointing

by breningram on 2010-01-22Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 1 out of 5

It was too bad Colin didn;t play much of his older stuff. I found his concert VERY slow. The crowd was lame too. I've seen him for New Years at Devionain Gardens, in Banff and in Calgary before and this concert I liked the least of all
