  • Colin James was hot!!

by Pacer on 2010-01-22TCU Place - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

The Colin James concert last night was fantastic. Can this musician play a guitar or what??!! And his vocals are sweet. The sax and trumpet add a jazzy sound to the songs. Bass player, keyboards, drums....are were played very well. This show was very entertaining. I loved the classic Colin James songs from years ago, and the newer ones were also good.

Colin James can definitely play the guitar like the best of them and his voice is better than ever. He gave an amazing performance.

What a fantastic show. Colin touched all his albums except National Steel (although I think he did intend to play something off it but then there was a gaffe). The first half of the concert is almost the entire Rooftops & Satellites album. The second half is a collection of hits, oldies, and some surprises. The band is tight and have a great sound. I've seen Colin 7 times now and love that depending on the album, every show is different. Personal favourites from this show included Freedom, Keep on Lovin' Me Baby, Voodoo Thing, I'm Losing You, and Why'd You Lie. But really, I could go on and on. Suzie McNeil played a terrific opening set. Colin played for 120 minutes.

Another of my favorite musicians has played TCU Place & I will be waiting for his return! I have attended several of his concerts & he never fails to amaze in his ability & is so very at home on stage & with his band. He only gets better as time goes on. The musicians he plays with are also very talented. All in all, a very enjoyable night!

What an awesome guitar player - very talented indeed. Wow! Thanks for the great evening! Will defintely buy tickets to see him again, next time he is in town. Bravo!

What a show! Came on stage and never quit. We left with huge smiles on our faces. Don't know how many guitars he has, but he's mastered them all. Great Band!!

  • Who turned on the lights?

by Iseabal on 2010-01-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

If you aren't bothered by a few missed sound and lighting ques, then this was a great concert. Colin only gets better as he produces more records, this being his 13th. He mixed the new with the old enough to keep the older crowd happy and the younger crowd rocking. Would love to see him without the organ and heavy accompaning guitar, though. Loved the horns. Steve is amazing on sax. Opening act, was wonderful. New to the sound of McNeil (sorry if that is spelled incorrectly). Pleasantly pleased to have been introduced to her strong, clear vocals and excellent stage presents.

  • Collin James

by Happykat on 2010-01-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

This was an awesome concert...crowd a bit quiet but that's okay given the average age. Collin James is really in his prime. He played his guitars like they were a part of his anatomy...the only other guitar player I've seen play with his kind of comfort level and finesse has been Carlos Santana. This man was born to play the guitar...bonus...he can sing...well...really well...His band is tight and they never missed a beat. They may have adapted a few songs but it was for the better. So you get my drift....very much enjoyed and would recommend him to anyone. Can't wait to see him again. Of course this is only my opinion. Janis

  • Colin shows a mastery of blues/rock

by jimmjam on 2010-01-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Good thing I picked up the new album and listened a few times as he played quite a bit of it. Musicianship was awesome. Sound was troubled - vocals were muddled and drowned out by the band, and the rhythm guitarist's amp was too loud - even though we were ten rows back I could hear it - much louder than his sound coming out of the PA system. All in all a good show - but the band belongs in a club where you can jump and dance. Much more fun than sitting!

  • Colin James is amazing live!!

by SSSG on 2010-01-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Colin James was full on last night at the Jubiliee here in Calgary! He played his greatest along with his new album, all of which sounded fantastic live. It was really fun watching him passionately play his wild selection of guitars. I'd seem him again and would recommend his concert to anyone who loves the blues, the guitar and listening to a great Canadian boy!

Recently saw Colin James in Kelowna. Suzie McNeil opened for him, she was great at getting everyone pumped up and setting a great atmosphere. She played a lot of my favorite songs. Colin though was amazing! He puts on a fantastic show and is an incredible guitarist- IMO he doesn't just play the guitar, he makes love to it!! My boyfriend, who has been to several concerts (including Rammstein in germany, who are known for putting on a great show), said it was the best concert he has ever been to.

  • Probably the best performance I have seen!

by Cricket52 on 2010-01-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

This was the 6th time I have seen Colin in concert over the years. This was the best performance I have seen . I invited my 22 year old nephew and he had NO idea who Colin James was, can you beleive that? But after the concert he said, " I am going to start his collection with ROOFTOPS & SATELITES. I really enjoyed Colins new work. MOST AMAZING. Keep up the good work.

  • Colin James - Best Sax I Ever Had!

by BLCLL on 2010-01-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

First I must thank Ticketmaster, I gave my wife tickets for Christmas and she lost them. No problem for a small fee they were replaced. Colin James was phenominal, I have never seen such a mixture of guitars;each suited to its use. He played a great mix of old and new along with some borrowed too. The interaction with the crowd was great and his stories entertaining. Music from his new "album" (as he called it) was great. The lineup to buy the new album went out the doors after the show. Oh andas far as the sax? It was incredible, more than 10 ovations for the sax. In General the supporting cast displayed individual talents that would have made each concert worthy. While Colin wowed us with his Guitar playing ability, his supporting band was equal to the billing. The Warm up act never had a chance. Suzy McNeil is very talented but only had a 30 minute window. She will be back as a headliner, great stage pressence just didn't have time to get the crowd behind her. But the sax wow great sax! And did I hear Colin sounding like a Crooner on a couple new songs? Great powerful voice, but I don't need to tell anyone that.
