Wicked Show - Comfortably Numb @ Metropolis

by Rayy1971 on 2011-10-27Metropolis Music Hall - Montreal

I saw Canada's Pink Floyd Show Comfortably Numb at Metropolis in April 2011 and I can't wait to see them at the L'Astral. By far one of my favorites shows I ever seen at Metropolis. Brillantly played and musically flawless. I moved to Canada from Glasgow, Scotland 5 years ago and grew up on Pink Floyd. I saw the Australian Pink Floyd Show at the Bell Centre but I personally think Comfortably Numb sounds much better and cleaner. Australian band had 10 or 12 musicians on stage and Comfortably Numb had just 5. I feel the guitar player is far more talented and appears to play more naturally compared to the main player in the Australian show. He just stands there and plays Floyd to a T, was unreal to watch. Very excited to see them at L'Astral excellent venue for live music. Very well put together show, not over done with a flashy light show, but the lights, video screens, and lasers were executed perfectly. Top 5 concert I have seen this year by far.

    The band was just fantastic!

    by Suz256 on 2011-03-28Opera House - Toronto

In a world of massive opinion where everyone is always right and their taste is correct, it's hard to write a review and have it read objectively, but here it goes.... I attended the Opera House on March 19, 2011 to see Comfortably Numb. I have heard many things about this band and wanted to check it out, so in Decemeber a bunch of us bought tickets to go to the show. When we arrived we realized it was standing room only for the most part but were lucky to grab a few seats, I have never been to the Opera House but its an old venue and seems to have a lot of history - neat! When the band came on they opened with Astronomy Domine which surprised us as we didn't think they would do material that far back they then performed the usual suspects, like Time, Great Gig and so on but also did cuts from Animals and Meddle which was also very cool to see. We could tell the immense amount of concentration from the singer/guitar guy and that he was focused and quite good, the Gilmour sound was there and the playing was an extreme highlight, this guy is simply outstanding. I loved the guitar sound and I loved the live feel of the songs, not just albums covers. This was a great tribute and a tribute in the truest sense. I susupect if you wanted an exact album copy this wouldn't be your cup of tea but then I would advise staying home. The vocals especially the Roger Waters vocals were fabulous, he had the scathing sound for Animals and The Wall material but also the Gilmour sound was there as well and we thought it quite amazing that he could jump back and forth between voices so seemlessly. Great Gig was also amazing from the female singer. We thought the visuals were great as were the lights and as a whole I thought the band was just fantatstic !

Comfortably Numb far from blah - AMAZING!

    by Melmel234 on 2011-03-25Opera House - Toronto

I am sorry, I totally disagree - the person that wrote the review: 'caught a case of the blahs' is totally wrong and obviously was asleep.... My husband and I bought tickets at Christmas for Comfortably Numb's ottawa and toronto shows - being floyd fans and having seen the aussie shows and a few others and as my hubby plays in a band himself and has done shows here in Canada and the US we thought we'd 'check this band out'. We went there expecting alot - if you say you are a tribute to floyd you better be great and you better know your music. - this band has it in the bag! In seeing the ottawa and Toronto shows we knew that if there wasn't consistency we would see it and hear it. We loved the choice of songs, the use of lights and that mood was built from one song to the next . We really enjoyed hearing some other pieces that other bands just don't have. The sound was great and wasn't distorted or grungy which is what we expected at the opera house but clear - the singer was great and a fabulous showman on guitar and also in connecting with the audience; much as I have seen Waters do on the wall tour , the female singer was amazing in great gig in the sky. The band as a whole was tight and together and they enjoyed themselves and cared about what they did. Saying the band was blah is absolutely wrong - perhaps the person was expecting songs from division bell or momentary lapse which they didn't do - this was certainly not an 'all hits' show. Also to say the graphics weren't good is laughable, as they were obviously done by professionals they had 3D graphics of hammers marching some beautiful imagery for Dark side music and I loved the visuals of Syd B and lots more - the tickets were not expensive and I was surprised given the length of show - I paid over 60 bucks for the aussie show and it was less than 2 houes. You got lots here and more and they band is very talented. My hubby was very jealous when we left and we are going to Montreal to see them again at the Metropolis where we have seen other amazing bands. So go see this band and read the reviews of everyone here - one thing she/he did get right is that they are the only ones who thought this as well LOVED the show!!!

Comfortably numb caught a case of the blahs

by Dumpster on 2011-03-23The Opera House - Toronto

Not too impressed at all. Was expecting way more. Saw another cover band for Pink Floyd that was far superior. I don't know if they were having a bad night but the music seemed flat. There was definitely people there enjoying themselves but unfortunately I think it had little to do with the show. I bought the tickets for my husband for Christmas and they weren't cheap. If it was a free show or much cheaper I wouldn't have expected as much, I guess. They video graphics need updating too! My son-in-laws grade seven class could do a better video display.

    Awesome Floyd Tribute!!!!

by LizzieB on 2011-03-22The Opera House - Toronto

These guys do a great job replicating Floyd's material live, & have a fantastic light & laser show to go along with it. This was my 3rd time seeing them & id still go again. But once again, the standout of the band is their female keyboardist/backup vocalist. I dont know her name, but her wails on Great Gig In The Sky will vibrate thru your whole body & bring tears to your eyes! She is INCREDIBLE!!!!

    Comfortably Numb

by Lingling1 on 2011-03-21The Opera House - Toronto

It was a great show! Played all the hits. They sound very much alike the real thing. Musical instruments were well played. Voices were superb. Opera house is a dump. No seats. It's hard to stand for 3 hours. It was crowded. Washroom was disgusting. They should have played at Massey hall or Sony Centre.

    Comfortably Numb

by 1Herb1 on 2011-03-21The Opera House - Toronto

Great band, great venue. The atmosphere was terrific and the sound was superb. As a huge Floyd fan I could not have asked for abetter setlist. The band was very tight ,guitar solos were spot on and the female backing vocals a nice touch (her aria on great gig in the sky was a highlight). Look forward to seeing this band again, and will bring more Floyd freaks with me. Thanks for the great time.

    Comfortably Numbtastic

by Beercase on 2011-03-21The Opera House - Toronto

The doors opened early, the show was a couple minutes late, and before you knew it, it was over. This was a non - stop, laser guided tour of Pink Floyd music that could easily have gone on much longer. The standing room only crowd was energetic and enjoyed every song.

Excellent show, lights music and laser

by Cookstown on 2011-03-21The Opera House - Toronto

Will I go again, YES, the music was incredible, the vocals identical to PF, and it was enjoyable in a small environment....I am sure those that stood throughout would have preferred some seating, but non-the less worth the ticket price (actualy a steal) and Comfortably Numb is a class act...Look forward to next year, same time, same place

Comfortably Numb - Canada's Pink Floyd Show

by ANDREWM on 2011-03-21The Opera House - Toronto

most people going to a show like this are hard core Floyd fans. The vocals were just OK but a little harsh most of the time. Female vocals were much better but there's only a couple of them. Guitar work was very good for the most part - but - if you call your band Comfortaby Numb, you should just nail all parts of it. Sadly, they did not. Rather disappointing. Postive remarks- lots of songs throughout the evening. These guys didn't stick to safe, easy stuff - they did Echoes, Pigs, Sheep, Great Gig in the Sky. That's gutsy and they performed them well. Special visual and audio effects were OK but not great.

    Outstanding Band

by Shaina on 2011-03-13Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Outstanding band and concert. Recommend this show to anyone who likes Pink Floyd, Progressive Rock. The best Pink Floyd tribute band I have ever heard. Seen others with better lighting in bigger venues, but I'm not spending $45 to see a flashy light show. Comfortably Numb does have a wicked light show but not as big as others. In my opinion, it should be always about the band and their musical abilities and Comfortably Numb nails the music with a sledgehammer. Close your eyes and listen to the music, you won't know the difference. I love how Comfortably Numb extends album version of songs and jam it out as Floyd would do it. If I wanted to listen to album version of songs I would stay home and play the cd. Comfortably Numb nails the music time and time again. Never been disappointed after leaving a concert, always a perfect night. Never been to the Opera House so I'm really looking forward to seeing Comfortably Numb in an open concept music hall as I've only seen them at Danforth Music Theatre. I've read the Opera House is a top rated venue in Toronto for concerts and packs a 1000 people.

    Comfortably Numb in Ottawa

by roadierob on 2011-03-01Canadian Museum Of Civilization Events - Gatineau

We enjoyed the concert! The dedicated band brought out much of the Pink Floyd experience, along with some of their own material. We would have liked to have heard the keyboards a bit better . Lighting effects were excellent, except for the few times when lights were blinding the audience for a bit too long. The staff were more than helpful. Seats were perfect!! Excellent view of a great concert!! Overall, a very good concert, and would go again!

This is my third time seeing Comfortably Numb. Their devotion to the music of Pink Floyd is astonishing and impressive. They do a great interpretation of the songs as they put their hearts and souls into the music. Comfortably Numb is always an experience to remember and I look forward to seeing them again in the future!

Great band, great show, well worth the money!

    by dggy18 on 2011-02-22Opera House - Toronto

I have read so many reviews on different tribute bands from floyd to ozzy, it seems in this day we all have very strong opinions and we all seem to be right - all of the time. The flaming online and critiques are hilarious at times but the bottom line is do you like the shows or not and if not don't go again but allow others to see for themselves. I have seen all the usual suspects, the Aussie show, the experience show and some others as well in Europe, Comfortably Numb is a tribute to Floyd in the real sense, they love the music first, their playing and detail is amazing. What I love mostly is the fact that it is not a note for note show where there is no feeling and/or expression but an actual sense of what floyd may have done in their hey day. Being a collector of rare live albums (thats cds for those of you that dont know what an album is :) I really enjoy hearing the guiatrist nail the feel of the 70's, he has obviously taken some time to hear the live tracks and without speaking on their behalf I think their show is based on the live performances. I was thoroughly entertained and I did not feel as though I had wasted any time of money. So for those of you wanting to get out and listen to a floyd band, try Numb I am sure you'll be happy, if not then so be it, but I can't see why not given that they have sold out over and over again for years - no this is my opinion and mine alone, if it helps you buy a ticket to a GREAT BAND, i was glad to help.

    Excellent Show, SUPERB BAND

by PeterPiper on 2011-02-19The Opera House Toronto - Toronto

I proudly attended a Comfortably Numb show at the Opera House in 2008 and it is still probably in my top 5 concerts of all time. Probably the longest concert I have seen as well. Show started at 8pm and ended at MINDNIGHT !! 4 Hours long..completely lost track of time and could not believe they ended their 3 super long sets at midnight. The show was sold out, over 1000 people jammed packed. They had 3 sold out shows that weekend at The Opera House. It was very hard to get a ticket but I was very happy to get my hands on one. The band played all of Wish You Were Here, Animals, and Dark Side of the Moon, plus half the Wall. I couldn't believe it. This band simply loves playing Floyd and does a excellent job doing so. I've attended other "very over produced", "high priced" Pink Floyd tribute shows thinking they must be good to demand and a $65 + ticket and they were simply not half as good as Comfortably Numb. It seems some of theses other tributes spend all their time on their flashy light shows to camouflage the fact they don't sound or play like Pink Floyd at all. Comfortaby Numb has got it right as they concetrate on the music first and then layer on the rest of the show production. I can't wait to see them again March 19 in Toronto. Simply the best Pink Floyd tribute I have ever seen hands down. I recommend this show to anyone who likes Pink Floyd or live concerts for that matter. 6 Thumbs Up for Comfortably Numb.
