    Heartfelt experience

by Jina Gorgeous on 2022-12-14Bluma Appel Theatre - Toronto

Being a hairstylist myself, I have experienced nearly everything displayed on the stage. It’s been said time and time again that one should not mix business with friendships. How we could avoid it as hairdressers who’s job is not only washing and styling, but, listening to all kinds of life’s journey with each individual clients through out the years of services. And we don’t just give a listening ear, sometimes we become the shoulder to cry on , we give free service due to certain situations. We give ourselves by keeping the store open past dinner time or even bed time especially during the holidays. The show brought tears to my eyes ,joy and laughter for this I say thank you. Everyone should go see this show it will definitely take you back home wherever it may be.

    Like spending time with friends

by T on 2022-12-14Bluma Appel Theatre - Toronto

There’s so much to like about this play and a lot that stays with you after it ends. I love the very warm way Novellete talks to the crowd as if we are friends at the hair salon. She really connected to the crowd. The characters are sweet, funny, relatable and move you to feel something. The theatre atmosphere really felt the heaviness of the dramatic parts and the lightness of the silly or celebratory parts. A gorgeous display of actors, stories and the SINGING!!

    Not quite as expected

by Audience on 2022-12-14Bluma Appel Theatre - Toronto

Though descriptions stated hilarious and emotional . I did not anticipate such long sections on very deep matters, which did change state of mind for listening to rest of play . I think be good to perhaps make clearer in the information that this is main focus of play . Very well performed and if you know what you are going to see sure would have very positive reviews

    A Family Stroll

by Nixs on 2022-12-13Bluma Appel Theatre - Toronto

I loved every minute of this experience, even the uncomfortable ones. It brought me through a kaleidoscope of emotions attached to being a black female from a West Indian family. It made me laugh, cry, reminisce and think. After seeing this play, it really made me sit in my feelings surrounding my upbringing and how I have been blurring my gaze about the trauma. I'd watch it again and again. It brought a bit of peace.

Awesome show! Very engaging. Funny but also has relevant topics that people can relate to. Each actor brought something different to the show. Would definitely recommend this to others. Love the venue easy to get to by subway or car.

The play was very moving, brought me to tears at least a couple times haha. The energy from the cast was tangible and the same could be said about the crowd, which just made the whole atmosphere of the theatre magic.

    Amazing

by Tiwaa on 2022-12-13Bluma Appel Theatre - Toronto

Best show this year, it took me down my teenage years with the set and music. I love how relevant it was and it touched on sensitive matters without offending anyone. My only feedback is I feel like the show should have worked with the venue to sell food that was more relatable to the show such as patties

    Phenomenal Women Powerful Show

by Zhiizhii on 2022-12-11Bluma Appel Theatre - Toronto

This show was the real deal! It was thoroughly entertaining and I felt every emotion deeply. I felt seen as a Black/African woman as they addressed many unspoken and often internalized issues we face with authenticity and care. The local references throughout made it so relatable. Im so grateful that this was my first truly memorable and impactful post-covid cultural/arts experience. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!
