About

Dave Chappelle Live Performance and Tour

Dave Chappelle, mastermind behind sketch comedy goldmine Chappelle's Show, made a triumphant return to stand-up comedy in 2013. While he's beloved for his famous impersonations of Rick James and Prince, Chappelle doesn't rely on old material for his stand-up act, treating fans to an all-original show featuring extensive improvisation as he interacts with audiences. At his 2013 performances on The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, which he co-headlined with Flight of the Conchords, Chappelle had fans rolling on the floor, building anticipation for his highly coveted 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT

Born David Khari Webber Chappelle in Washington, D.C., Dave Chappelle studied theatre arts in high school before moving to New York City to pursue standup comedy. Despite getting booed off stage at the Apollo Theater's infamous "Amateur Night," he remained resilient, going on to make a name for himself on the New York comedy circuit. Following several successful film appearances in the '90s, including a starring role in 1998 cult classic Half Baked, Chappelle debuted his namesake sketch comedy show on Comedy Central in 2003, finding both critical and commercial success. In 2006 he released Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a concert film set in Brooklyn featuring performances by Kanye West, The Roots, and a temporarily-reunited Fugees.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY

"Funniest live performance I've witnessed to date. You will be quoting Chappelle after the show. I was laughing so hard that it started to hurt. Great show from start to finish."

"Dave...he is a comedic genius and one of the best ever. He was amazing and I wished I could have gotten in line and gone to the second show!"

"He was hilarious. Talked about some of his history and was not afraid to get the audience involved. I had a great time."

    disappointed.

by Mek on 2023-01-05Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I was so looking forward to see Dave Chappelle live for the first time. I had seen his specials as well as his show and certainly knew what he was capable off. That is why I was so disappointed over Sunday evening's event as it grossly under-delivered. The show was supposed to start at 8 but ended up starting half an hour late due to the levels of security to vet a sold-out crowd - understandable. However, Dave had no less than 3 warm comedians to precede him and that took a full hour. Dave finally comes out at 9:30 and starts puffing away on a cigarette for every one of his sixty minutes. I was waiting patiently for a memorable joke and ready to split my sides laughing. Alas, that never happened. Dave opted to go for lowest common denominator gags and gross out humour. Dave, you left me wanting but not wanting more.

Good show but may not attend the next one

by Quality over Quality on 2023-01-05Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Had fun, the music leading up the show was great but then DJ Trauma started playing some 80's songs you hear at weddings. Donnell Rawlings was the funniest this time around and a super welcome addition. They could just have him and Jeff Ross (not there) as openers and call it a day. Dave used some of his material from last year's event (with a twist) which made me feel like I overpaid. It was funny but not as funny as his other stuff. It seems that he sometimes spends a longer time depending on the audience. I didn't realize the event was roughly 2 and half hours with most of the entry guys getting 15-30 mins each. Heckler ruined last portion a bit. Would I go again? Only if my ticket was less than $100. I'll just wait for a netflix special in the meantime.

    Great show

by Jade on 2023-01-05Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Great show - great comedian line-up. Everyone was funny start to finish. Only comment would be about venue line-up - was too long, had to lock up phones and to leave was just as long to unlock phones. Better system needs to be in place for that.

    Disappointed

by Drew on 2023-01-05Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Too many to voice but three most important points: 1. Long lineups.. security standing around .. none seem to know their job (no advertised heads-up to arrive early to avoid line-up confusion) 2. The warm-up comedians seemed to be regurgitating old (tired) material no research and thought placed on quality material 3. The headliner seem to be reaching for old material done in other shows nothing fresh to see here folks (my first time wanting to see Chappelle) inform him to stop spewing what comes to mind which is not much and do some homework and give audience their moneys worth (extremely disappointed)

    He Is Just FU@#$%^ FUNNY

by SEAN on 2023-01-05Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

WHAT HE SAYS AND HOW HE DELIVERS IT IS COMEDY GENIUS. I KNOW HE OFFENDS SOME PEOPLE ALONG THE WAY BUT HIS BASE MESSAGE UNDER ALL OF IT …IS PEOPLE NEED TO BE KINDER TO ONE ANOTHER IF THE HUMAN RACE IS GOING TO IMPROVE (SURVIVE). WHAT HE SAYS TO GET THERE IS COMEDY HILARIOUSLY DELIVERED BY A MASTER STORY TELLER.

    Underwhelming

by Fefe on 2023-01-04Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Long line ups and delays to get into venue which I’m guessing was due to no phone policy. Missed part of the opening because waited in line for what seemed like an hour to get in. Unsealing phone after the show was a mess also with not enough staff available to unlock phone pouches. Chapelle is a great story teller, and I expected more, having been to a previous show of his and having seen all of his standup specials. This show was not even close to what one would expect from a comedian of his calibre. Multiple times people heckled during the show and audience member was escorted out in the last 10 minutes of the show. Night ended on a sour note.

    Almost fainted

by ICUWatchin’ on 2023-01-04Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

All opening acts plus Dave were a 10/10. I left off two stars because the Scotiabank Arena makes it ridiculously hard to drink water by making you throw away sealed bottles and keeping the caps of the $8 bottles they sell. The paramedic that refused to find me a place to sit to pause for a few moments when I said I felt unwell was really rude. I was told to leave and was directed to Union Station. Once again as a black woman, my emergency wasn’t taken seriously. I thank God nothing happened to me because someone could’ve easily taken advantage of my weak state that night.

    Chappelle Show

by Krunoslav on 2023-01-04Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

It was a very cool experience. Overall, I had a good time. The three openers were very good. David was very good too. It was not his best comedy so I can't give it a full 5 stars. However, it was still very good and the experience was really cool.

    i can't feel my face....

by sevenigma on 2023-01-04Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

no holds barred baby! non-stop belly laughs from the first electrifying moment to the last. DJ Trauma got the party started & opening acts Marshall Brandon, Rick Ingraham & Donnell Rawlings just kicked ass - they were fierce & funny af!! they each interacted w/audience & nailed it every time; Damn, we Canadians are so cool... and then there's Dave. RAW. REAL & IN CONTROL...now i'm not gonna fault him his extra casual attire; those track pants were unruly & required lots of hiking up (cause man, that shit is so cute) when the 'Legend' is soooo funny & endearing at the same time. Dave, we love you man!! as the audience kept telling you over & over again & further reinforced by your receiving the Comedy Award from Just for Laughs. best. nite. ever. now y'all come back soon y'hear....

Disappointing due to disruption within audience

by Marlyn on 2023-01-04Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Unfortunately I could not hear 90% of the show. There were two people sitting behind me that talked throughout the opening acts as well during Chappelle. First, I turned around during the opening acts and asked them to please keep it down but was ignored. Later during Chappelle, I turned around and told them I had not paid to listen to the two of them talk all night long. Unfortunately, the man went off and started swearing and verbally began assaulting myself and my son and daughter. Not one time did any of US swear back at him. I tried waving over security but it was dark and they did not see me. I wanted to get up and get them but did not want to disrupt the show for others around me after having listened to this man and woman swearing and yelling their heads off. So I sat there and didnt hear much other than the constant chatter behind me. I have a hearing loss in one ear so you can imagine how much more difficult it was to get to listen to the show with constant commentary behind me. Quite honestly, we left a bit early since these two inconsiderate people were disrespectful to everyone around them. They disrupted the entire experience for myself, my son and daughter for our first ever Chappelle show which we were greatly looking forward to. I was asked what the best joke of the night was and my answer was 'I don't know. I couldnt hear anything.' Unfortunate indeed.
