About

Dave Chappelle Live Performance and Tour

Dave Chappelle, mastermind behind sketch comedy goldmine Chappelle's Show, made a triumphant return to stand-up comedy in 2013. While he's beloved for his famous impersonations of Rick James and Prince, Chappelle doesn't rely on old material for his stand-up act, treating fans to an all-original show featuring extensive improvisation as he interacts with audiences. At his 2013 performances on The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, which he co-headlined with Flight of the Conchords, Chappelle had fans rolling on the floor, building anticipation for his highly coveted 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT

Born David Khari Webber Chappelle in Washington, D.C., Dave Chappelle studied theatre arts in high school before moving to New York City to pursue standup comedy. Despite getting booed off stage at the Apollo Theater's infamous "Amateur Night," he remained resilient, going on to make a name for himself on the New York comedy circuit. Following several successful film appearances in the '90s, including a starring role in 1998 cult classic Half Baked, Chappelle debuted his namesake sketch comedy show on Comedy Central in 2003, finding both critical and commercial success. In 2006 he released Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a concert film set in Brooklyn featuring performances by Kanye West, The Roots, and a temporarily-reunited Fugees.

The event was well organized, the seats were excellent, Dave Chapelle was very funny and entertaining. It was a very memorable experience, and I had a good time. Dave Chapelle treated his fans well, and he made me laugh. I was not disappointed and happy I went. I also liked the lighting effects, the DJ, and the warm-up acts. The audience seemed to enjoy listening to Dave Chapelle's jokes as much as I did.

I never though I would see my favorite comedian live! Dave was hilarious as usual, and he shows his comedic genius even through his casual talking with the audience. I will always love Dave and hope he comes back again to Toronto!

don't believe the hype. was amazingly hard trying to get tickets for his toronto dates.dave came out feeling strong but by half hour in his set he was basically drunk and just talking to the crowd and i mean literally talking and sharing opinions very little jokes were said. than teased us that he was gonna spark a smoke on stage talked about how its all hes been wanting to do all week and our city wont let him (i failed to see the humor also). he than closed on a old jerk off vhs tape joke that everyone has heard before is your a fan of his. for 90 bucks a ticket people with General Admission had to stand all week, possible the worst setup i have ever seen for a comedy show. maybe find something better to do with your time and money.

Of course the show was amazing and some surprising openers too!! Thanks for staying the week in Toronto, Dave. And I like those pouches for your phone. I didn't have to tell anyone to put it away or listen to someone whisper into their phone. Smart move, guys. The process of buying a ticket for another person was beyond ridiculous. I think if I pay for the ticket and show up with that person, it should be acceptable.

  • The Master at Work

Dave Chappelle is one of the true masters of comedy. He's had some troubled times, like a lot of artists, but he was on top of his game for this show. Absolutely killed it the night I saw him, and as I understand every night of the series of shows that he did.

  • Just as funny as before

This was well worth the money, Dave is just as funny as he was on the Chappelle Show & his previous standups

As long as you realize that you are not coming for a comedy show, but instead a live party with Dave his friends and any local celebs who want to come, there is no way you will be disappointed. Dave Chappelle, usher, and kardinal official 3 FEET AWAY FROM ME from 10 until everybody left (we left at 2:30 am but the party was still going strong). You will be able to see his stand up on tv - but an experience like this is once in a lifetime. Check the Reddit feed for more info

  • Could have been so much more

by Liltunechi on 2016-02-14The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

First of all, I am a huge fan,Dave Chappell is a legend in comedy. However, I was disappointed after his show in Toronto. With all the talent he has it almost seemed like he didn't take the show seriously. The show was moderately funny throughout, but it lacked extremely funny moments. He seemed light on material, easily getting side tracked with hecklers. There was no 'story line' just random jokes that came to him. The opening act by Darnell almost seemed funnier than Dave's. So much potential, I really hope he makes a proper come back with good material. He needs to put the work in like he used to. He made fun of how famous Kevin Hart is now, but Kevin puts a lot of effort into his material and show, and Kevin essentially copied Dave Chappelles old format.

  • Hilarious and witty

Loved the show only wish it was longer. Would definitely go see Chappelle again and again whenever he's in town!

  • Dave Chappelle Concert

by Flipout on 2016-02-12The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I took in the first show Tuesday night at 7pm at Toronto's dump, the Danforth Music Hall. Man I dislike that venue. But the show was terrific right from the start with the warm up act- Donnell who entertained us for 20 odd minutes. Then out came the headliner who kept the audience in a constant fit of laughter for the next 40 minutes. He is one funny man who could certainly sellout a bigger venue. it would be great to see him at Massey Hall for instance. Dave's crucifiction of Bill Cosby was especially funny. I wish i had purchased tickets for more than one show, he was that good!

  • fell asleep halfway through

by Anonymous on 2016-02-12The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

had high expectations for chappelle as im a long time fan and have watched every episode of chapelle show countless times. while some of his jokes were funny, i was never on the edge of my seat nor find myself gasping for air due to too many laughs, which was what i came for. i caught myself zoning in and out of sleep after the halfway mark and my friend and i chose to leave before show ended.

  • Could've been a tighter set.

by DCortado on 2016-02-12The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Doesn't seem like Dave has really been writing much material the can rival his more prolific stuff from a decade ago. Taking shots at alleged rape victims, gay people and trans people is pretty low hanging fruit in terms of comedic quality. He kind of meandered through the latter half of the set. Expected more from an idol like Dave.

  • Funny!

by jswaby on 2016-02-12The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I thought I wouldn't like the fact that you had to put your phone in a locked pouch, but it was actually refreshing. No one had their phone out and people were interacting with each other, making new friends, etc. The show was really funny as expected.. It was a little too short because of the double billing. He could have told jokes all night. Some of his jokes were a few years old. The random banter with the audience was funnier than his prepared jokes.

  • Chappelle does it again!

by NikaNika on 2016-02-12The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was everything I thought it was going to be and more! He was brilliant! I laughed from start to finish - and you know it's real when you have those great big belly, tears running down your face laughs. He was very relevant, pushing the envelope with jokes about race, gender and sexual orientation and other hot button topics. He did not hold back! I would definitely go to another Dave Chappelle show. I also liked how intimate the event was. Initially I was apprehensive - why doesn't he play the ACC or something instead of all these shows at a smaller venue. But I must say, him performing at the Danforth Music Hall was just the right size crowd. You felt close to him and you were able to bond with everyone around you. All in all, this was the best comedy show I've ever attended.
