At 70 Dennis Deyoung still has an amazing voice and a very good band. However Eddie Money should retire ASAP.
Great evening. Sound, voices and music was excellent. Great atmosphere. Good job everyone.
Styx was a major part of my growing up. The Grand Illusion album and Paradise Theater were pillars of my early years, and lived with me through tapes, CD's and now into the digital age! And, somehow, through all this time Dennis DeYoung has taken fine care of his primary instrument - his voice! His keyboard playing is still good, but in this particular show it was his voice and onstage demeanor that stood out the most - for me. It was a night of good tunes and good times. The between-song banter from Dennis was entertaining and it turns out that he's a really comical guy! The band sounded really good. One criticism is that the guitarists came across as overly energetic and happy with their very "staged" stage choreography. Too much smiling and gleeful back-to-back playfulness between them. The kind of back and forth more commonly seen from band members in a boy-band! Guitars sounded good, but there was a lack of 'coolness' shown with the fake clowning around. Back to the star...Dennis has a voice that can transport you immediately back to the late 70's and early 80's. His catalog of cool tunes is amazingly very deep. His is a voice that, those of us old enough to truly remember listening to FM and AM radio stations and record players will cherish and remember for a long, long time.
Dennis De Young is witty, energetic and above all, his voice and presentation is beyond compare. His classic ballad, Babe was moving and interesting stories accompanied many songs. Two amazing guitar players rocked out Styx hits with fresh exuberance. A fun night !
Dennis Deyoung was great. Still has the voice, the band was on the top of their game.. Jimmy is incredible on the guitar(s) and August has a great voice and excellent on the guitar also. John is a talented organ player and Tom on the drums is fantastic. Craig is a layed back bass player but plays the 5 string bass with awesome talent. Suzanne is great on background vocals. Dennis is funny, personable and still can rock the room...two thumbs up for all of them...
Incredible vocals right out of 1981, he has not lost a beat at 67!
Certainly a trip down memory lane for me. Most of the Styx classics were played.
Dennis De Young took a while to warm up to the audience but he sang all the great hits from Styx.
we all had to go right up to the stage and become one with the band, Mr Deyoung can still sing it. the sound was excellent heard everything from the point we were at all throughout the venue, also exciting the menbers of the band were great stage performers. I would go see him again.
Always loved Styx and have seen them several times with and with out Dennis DeYoung but nothing compares to hearing Dennis sing his songs! it's remarkable the guy can still belt them out today at 67 years old but sound like he is still in his 30's like he did when he was last here in 1981 !!! (I remember I paid $8 at the door in 1981 to see Styx) Dennis you are awesome and you don't need the others as you are STYX in my mind!!!!
Excellent show - well worth the price . If you have Styx Greatest Hits cd than thats what you will get . DeYoungs voice is still great . The guitarist who covers T. Shaws songs is actually better than Shaw himself . ( i seen styx w/o Dennis before) .
Wasn't sure what we'd think of his band, as we've seen Styx many times and they are unbelievable. Dennis de Young and his band are right up there too. Dennis is 67 and is still full of energy (and FUNNY!). They did some songs that Styx never does (one that comes to mind is Mr. Roboto). Only thing missing from his band was Gowan on the organ, which is a spectacle in itself. But these guys really rock, the sound was great, and Dennis can still really sing! You would definitely not be disappointed if you went to see them!!! GO AND ENJOY.
Dennis voice is the same as 30years ago Superb concert...really brings back a lot of memory
This was a great concert. It was worth every penny. Dennis DeYoung's voice sounds exactly as you hear it on the radio etc. You don't even miss Tommy Shaw, as August Zadra sounds superb. They put on an enthusiastic show.
I went to this concert for nostalgic reasons and didn't know what to expect, but Dennis can still belt it out at age 67. The band was excellent and I would recommend this to anyone who wants a really good blast from the past. I would go again in a heartbeat.
his voice is still incredible, he's funny and played the best songs by styx. great band too
Loved the ballads best. Such a great voice. Whole band was great.
I never got the chance to see Styx in their heyday. His new band rocks and he sounds just as great as ever. Thanks for rockin' my birthday!
Impressive acoustics, intimate venue and a band that can flat out play. Denis's voice at 66 is unreal. Terrific value and much better than almost anything at the ACC.
