This was my 1st live musical show. I thought it was absolutely amazing! They really had all the characters down well. The singers had fantastic voices. There were even some funny parts too. I really loved it a lot because it is one of my favorite movies. I even bought some merchandise as souvenirs too.
Have been to many many events the Abbotsford Centre this by far was the WORST we have ever been too. We had lower bowl seats that we paid $75 per person for and during the show the sound was so bad that you couldn't hear ANY of the dialogue. I don't even know how the sound tech people could not have known that it was that poor. The lighting on the stage was really bad as well so hard to see. When it came to the intermission, they didn't announce that there as going to be one and since no programs were given out we assumed it was. The people next to us never came back after the intermission and I saw a lot of empty seats after it. I talked to the attendant in the section we were in and she agreed that the sound was very bad and that she had had many people mention it and they were trying to tell the tech team from the show, however it was up them how they ran the sounds. The second half the sound was slightly better but not the lights. All in all it turned what could have been a great musical into a painful event that you just wished ended. If we had paid $30 a person, I might not be so upset about this, but as I have been to a number of musicals or opera's (Phantom, Mowtown, Lion King, Cats, Mama Mia, Shrek, Beauty and the Beast) I expected and we should have gotten a much better experience for the price
I was in the stands and the viewing from the side of the stage was terrible. The audio was so bad we couldn't hear anything and people were yelling out for them to turn it up. The acting was poor and there was barely and dancing. It really seemed like a university production and not a Broadway musical. I would not recommend this to anyone. We left just after the intermission and there were many others who were leaving at the same time. I usuallu dont take the time to post reviews but this was so terrible I had to. Save your money and don't bother going!
Sorry to say that this was a very bad production. My fiancé and I left at intermission (wanted to leave earlier but thought we should give it a fair shake) Sound was terrible.Lighting was absolutely horrendous.Couldn’t see any of the performers faces at all (everything looked washed out). Stage was ridiculously small and far away. Not sure why the stage wasn’t moved closer to the audience since there was more than adequate room to do so. Performers were not of the best quality either. We are very experienced theatre goers so ,sorry gang but I think money should be refunded for this stinker.
Awesome show . Only complaint is we were on the floor and it was difficult to see the stage.
Dirty dancing was amazing. Great cast, great music all the best parts from the movie. I would go see it again and again.
The sound was terrible. We could not hear the lyrics of the songs. The voices were unclear. People were shouting out "louder" but didn't seem to help. Majority of the audience knew the story line so that helped with the sound. Would have been nice if the dancers at then end came out of the back of the theater as in the movie and walked up the middle row to the stage. I think that would have given it more effect for the last scene.
This show was horrible. It was slow moving with too many ballads and a random storyline was added that wasn’t on the original about MLK. Very confusing. The only good part was the man who played Johnny.
The singing wasn’t great, sound was terrible. Couldn’t hear the cast speaking. Music should’ve been louder. Too big of a venue
Really disappointed. We were third row in the lower bowl, which I assumed were great seats. I was wrong. The sound was so quiet and the stage was set so far back due to floor seating, that we could barely hear or see anything. The dancing was ok but I didn’t enjoy the script, there was a lot added that wasn’t in the movie. The final lift at the end was underwhelming. I had really high expectations for this show, and sadly they were not met.
This show was very amature! The actors where all over acting and the dancing was very stiff. Their take on the music was poor and some added scenes that made us wonder if the producer had seen the original movie. We saw the Dirty Dancing show that was touring a couple of years back at the Queen Elizabeth theatre. That show was excellent. This current show...don’t waste your time..
Almost left at intermission. Don't waste your time or money. Was comparison to an Elementary School play. Sound, singing, seats, location all were horrible. If had a no star feature would have selected that as a review! Seriously SO disappointing :(
Second time we’ve seen this cast playing the Dirty Dancing show. Great show but sound could have been loader. This place has a rep of low volume and if your neighbors yak the night away, you miss what the actors are saying. Nothing to do with the show, just the venue
the woman singer wasn't very good she kept missing notes
Actors were fabulous, but being in the 6th row we couldn’t see faces/expressions etc because the stage was too far away. The sound wasn’t loud enough until someone in the crowd yelled to “turn it up”. This play need to be in a more intimate setting.
They could have done much more to make this show a 5 star. Stage was small and lighting was dark. Made it hard to see from our seats. A cat walk where the dancers could have performed. Music needed to be louder. Whole show and scenes seemed rushed. Took away from the movie's magic moments.
Could not hear the actors speaking. It needed a bug screen for a venue this big! Super disappointing and a waste of money!!!
Dirty Dancing was absolutely incredible. It brought back memories from one our favourite movies of all time. We even went back the next day hoping to get into the next show. Unfortunately it was sold out. This mother / daughter team would definitely recommend it to everyone.
I really enjoyed the show, they did an amazing job
