  • DOWN was amazing!!

by shellsbells on 2009-08-10MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great! located in the university ballroom, which made it more up close and personal . Phil Anselmo looked great and his voice took a strong hold of you, with the riffs of the band completed the awsomeness!! Great show for all who enjoys the heavier side of electric guitars and mind inducing lyrics.

I just started getting into this genre but this concert was EXCELLENT! I don't usually enjoy screaming but DOWN made the experience most pleasureable. Would totally do it again!

  • BAND Makes Hobo Stag Party worth it .

by DOWNHEAD on 2009-08-10MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 5 out of 5

The U of C is probably the worst venue that Calgary has to offer. Remmeber that grade 9 dance party put on by the student body...yeah..think those same people with walkie talkies trying to handle 3000 or so Metal heads between the ages of 21-40. I mean good effort for trying, but you fell way short of your goal..if you had a goal. I mean you couldn't have moved your lame barricade 5 feet backwards to include both bathrooms in the makeshift "Beer Gardens"? And I use "Beer Gardens" loosely. "Hobo Stag Party" would be more like it. After some mediocre bands, and the forming of shin splints afte running three flights of stairs for two hours every time you had to drain one, the Headliner starts. From the first chord to the last, I was renewed by the energy puring out from front man Phil Anselmo. Older in my years than tha of the young blood in the crowd, I was inclined to join the pit for 5 or so songs, which is something I had not done in what could seem a lifetime...which is exactly how long I have been waiting to see DOWN play. No fire, no pyro,no "Dragons jumping out of the PA". Just a band, the riffs, and a singer that still erupts like a Caldera after a liftime in what would seem the most grueling genre out there. Long had I waited, well worth it the wait. What compels a band this late in their respective, sorry, very respective careers to kill themselves on stage like this? The answer can only be a true love and respect for the music. This is no cash grab, this is no midlife crisis, this is no one last go for the side project. This is eternal, this is complete, this is every reason why I love music. THIS IS DOWN!!!

  • Phil Anselmo kicks ass

    by 666Kari666 on 2009-08-10Edmonton Event Centre - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

The show was absolutely amazing. The pat down was insanely tight... and I was a little irritated in the beginning about how crazy they were being (making me take off my belt?)... however, the show was no short of pure awesome and the crowd was so responsive. I hope our enthusiasm convinced DOWN to return one day. Oh and Voivod, so glad they are back. LOVE.

  • Down is the best metal band on tour!

  • Down in the ballroom

    by LastCaress7 on 2009-08-09MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 4 out of 5

We arrived just as Voovod was about to hit the stage. They played a rather inebriated show, or so it would appear, but were OK none the less. (apparently it was the lead singers 55th bday that night so I understand why). Some highlights of there set were when phil got up and sang back up and played bass. As well the PF cover at the end was interesting. Then without to much delay and a short LOUD sound check down got underway. Not a bad venue to see down at all. Phil played to the crowd as usual, witch is nice to see! Sound was decent for a metal show witch is rare. The replacement bassist fro rex seemed slightly outta place, though he knew the songs well enough. Crowd was generally reasonably into down, and gave a bit of the energy back. All in all I would see them again! They may wanna think about having more beer more accessible!

  • awesome!!!

by peel on 2009-08-09Edmonton Event Centre - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

the first opening band was kind of wierd but they got going pritty good, than voivod came on and kicked some seriouse a$$. then down ripped the place apart it was absolutly awesome. the only down side to down was rex had some family issues to tend to. but the filler was alright.

  • Down delivers

by MajorLay on 2009-08-09MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARYRating: 5 out of 5

Down rocked the stage last night, they played for close to 2 and a half hours and played avery Down song I wanted to hear live. Phil is the best frontman EVER!!! Lots of laughs and head banging good times.... my ears are still ringing!

  • Boring

by MyNickName on 2009-08-08Edmonton Event Centre - EdmontonRating: 2 out of 5

Okay show, but these guys are pretty boring. I realize that they're not Pantera, and they're doing their own thing, but this show was not one hundreth as worthwhile of a show as when I saw Pantera.

Good show. No Rex, and it was a little short otherwise it would have been a great show.

  • They brought Down the house!

by Draculaura on 2009-08-07Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

The Lousiana-based metal band, Down, led by former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo, brought an absolutely brutal show with them to the Burt. Down not only encourage the headbanging and moshing, they demand it. If Anselmo, at any point during their 90 minute set, felt that the audience wasn't using enough energy, he'd waste no time in pointing it out and winding them up. In fact, he even stopped the whole band during the opening riffs of Lifer (dedicated to the late, great Dimebag Darrell) to order the crowd to move around more. Down's whole show was energy-packed, and even demonstrated some deeper musicality than metal is accustomed to with a four-part vocal harmony during Beneath The Tides. All in all, an evening well spent.

  • DOWN WAS AWESOME

Phil Anselmo is a great entertainer! He interacts a lot with his audience and puts on an amazing show! Highly Recommended!

  • D O W N

by mongo on 2009-08-06Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

amazing show..... very high energy....... they killed it on stage..... phil anselmo is his old self a killer..... best front man in the entire metal universe.... 15 out of 10....... would have paid $500 to see that show and would be worth every penny.

  • Greatest show I've been to in years.

    by superflydopeyo1 on 2009-08-06Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

I'm still sore from the show. I haven't rocked out like that since I was fifteen years old. Down proved to be the greatest rock band today. Pepper and Kirk's guitars were extremely solid, they play such huge and heavy songs. Phil Anselmo might be the best he's ever been right now. Nobody missed a beat and they put on such a show and got the crowd into it and everybody had an amazing time. There's not much more to say, that show felt like it physically hit me and I'm still blown away.
