About

Dweezil Zappa was born on September 5, 1969, in Los Angeles, the son of the iconic musician Frank Zappa. Over the past three decades, Dweezil has carved out an eclectic and illustrious career that spans music, television, film, and entrepreneurship.

A Grammy-winning guitarist, Dweezil has left an indelible mark on the music industry with over 2000 concerts performed worldwide. Known for his masterful performances and deep connection to his father's music, he's returning to concert stages in 2024 for the first time since the 2020 Hot Ratz Live! Tour, continuing to guide fans through the thrilling and sophisticated world of his father's music.

His virtuosity on the guitar is matched only by his prolific compositional skills, which have generated numerous original works spanning multiple albums including "Confessions of Deprived Youth" (1991) and "Via Zammata" (2015). Notably, his compositions have even been performed by a 100-piece orchestra in Holland, showcasing his versatility and command of orchestral arrangements. His music effortlessly traverses genres, seamlessly weaving together elements of rock, fusion, and experimental sounds, all while maintaining a signature style that is unmistakably his own. In addition to his solo work, Dweezil has collaborated with an impressively varied roster of artists, including Edward Van Halen, Deep Purple, Lisa Loeb, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Steve Vai, among others.

In 2020, Dweezil further solidified his reputation as a pioneer in the industry by completing construction on "Hikari," a state-of-the-art multimedia studio. As a sought-after audio mix engineer, he showcased his expertise by crafting the stereo and Atmos mixes for the 50th anniversary re-release of Deep Purple's legendary album "Machine Head" in 2024, cementing his status as a unique voice in sound engineering.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Dweezil is deeply passionate about music education. He frequently shares his knowledge and expertise by teaching guitar, both through his own music camp, "Dweezilla," and online lessons. His collaborative spirit has led him to work with a diverse array of musicians all while honoring the legacy of his father, Frank Zappa.

In all his endeavors, Dweezil remains committed to upholding integrity and pushing the boundaries of technology and creativity. As he continues to innovate and inspire, Dweezil Zappa stands as a true luminary in the world of music and beyond.

Dweezil Zappa truly honoured his father!

by tedbilly on 2010-06-17Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Frank Zappa was obviously an amazingly talented and created composer. In a different time he would have been a Beethoven or Mozart. When he first passed away I was worried that no one would carry the torch and his music would fade away. At this concert I realized Dweezil is going to do his best to let the music carry on. Dweezil and his band played superb versions of a very small slice of Frank's work. Dweezil has an excellent easy going rapport with the audience and let's his musicians shine. Technically he is a superb guitar player. I can only imagine how difficult it can be to try and select material for such a concert. I wish I had invited more friends or had the money to pay for tickets to fill the house. It's so rare to find rock music that is so rich and vibrant played by talented musicians that aren't pompous or full of self worth. The band obviously loves the music and loves to play it.

I was once again impressed with dweezil and gang. He has learned his craft well. Great song selection that complimented franks diverse song writing ability .Unfortunately the seats in the queen elizabeth theatre were horribly uncomfortable.

    Blue Waffle

by cohomitch on 2010-06-17Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

As usual Dweezil and the band were truly amazing. It would be interesting to know how many songs they have rehearsed by now, as they pulled out some really old obscure numbers from early years to the later years. City of Tiny lights was outstanding. The keyboard player can really hit the highs on vocals. Ben Thomas is a great addition. This was the first time he has played in Vancouver with the band. His talents are impressive and his interaction with Sheila was fun to watch. Dweezil's guitar playing is getting from great to god-like. SHIP AHOY!!!!

    Zappa is hot

by Tazza on 2010-06-16Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

My husband was the real Frank Zappa fan back in the day but after hearing Dweezil's ZPZ first appearance here, I discovered why there are so many fans and fanatics of Frank's legacy. The music and arrangements are amazing, with all the intricacies, complexities and layers of a full symphony orchestra mixed with jazz in all its eclectic, math-gone-nuts depth. Wow. Not enough women in the audience - you should go! . And, Dweezil is HOT! (so are the rest :D)

    nice tribute to father

by Bjmac on 2010-06-16Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

With so much music to choose from over a great career, Dweezil played quite a variety of styles and music. The musicians that played are superb players. The show started late, but once started the crowd got right into it. Having seen this show before my only wish was that they would have included again video footage of Frank playing the songs live with the band. Overall a great night of music.
