About

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN IN CONCERT:

Formed in the late-'70s wake of punk's first wave, Echo & the Bunnymen forged a unique fusion of post-punk, new wave, and neo-psychedelia that established them as pioneers of a new direction in British rock. Today the band's moody, sophisticated sound is as compelling as ever, and their spellbinding live shows are the perfect place to experience it in the flesh. Whether brooding frontman Ian McCulloch is belting out classics from seminal 1984 album Ocean Rain or performing new material from 2014's Meteorites, Echo & the Bunnymen never fail to mesmerize with muscular musicianship and intense performances on their unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Echo & the Bunnymen formed in Liverpool in 1978, taking their name from a list of nonsensical monikers suggested by a friend. The band made their debut in 1979 with "The Pictures on My Wall", released on the now-legendary Mute Records imprint. Their 1980 album debut Crocodiles was a critical and commercial success, cracking the UK Top 20 and setting the stage for the success of sophomore album Heaven Up Here, which reached the Top 10 in 1981. Their chart run continued in 1983 with third album Porcupine, the vessel for hit singles "The Back of Love" and "The Cutter" and predecessor to the band's landmark 1984 album Ocean Rain, widely considered by critics as the pinnacle of their '80s output. After taking a hiatus between 1993-1996 the band reformed with a vengeance, scoring another Top 10 hit with "Nothing Lasts Forever" and delivering a powerful series of performances on tour. With their 12th studio album Meteorites hitting shelves in 2104, Echo & the Bunnymen have fans eagerly awaiting their next live shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Amazing show. Ian's voice has not changed a bit. The band sounds the same as the first time I heard them. Bravo!"

"The Bunnymen did amazing renditions of their albums. The improvisation on Crocodiles brought back many great live memories of Bunnymen past shows."

"It was an amazing show. The band sounded incredible and Ian was very much a dynamic presence. Two complete albums were played, along with encores, so it was definitely a show to remember."

    Excellent

by Tiffman on 2009-10-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

I have seen Echo many times and I am never disappointed. The first set brought about memories of the times I had seen them before, they played a few songs from their 1st album from the very early 80's. The second set was incredible, the idea of a fully orchestrated "Ocean Rain" was amazing. I had seen some performances on you-tube but it was way better live It was pricy though at over $130 no wonder there were few paupers in the crowd and only older people(the average age must have been 45ish)

    Amazing!

by Beaks on 2009-10-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

This was my first concert and I enjoyed it so much! Echo was so polished and clean with their songs and the song choices were spectaular! My particular favourites was "Resue", "Seven Seas" and the encore of "Lips like Sugar". We were dancing and singing all night long:) Way to go, Echo!!

    The Bunnymen-never sounded so amazing!

by MinnieBoo on 2009-10-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

This was the fourth time in twenty years that I saw the Bunnymen play. Being an avid fan for years I never quite understood how they didn't become bigger than U2 and Colplay combined-as they are certainly more talented. This show was absolutely incredible. The sound in the theatre was incredible and Ian McCulloch has never sounded so good. The first half was a Bunnymen's fan dream come true-lots of the hits and they kept on coming. The second half the orchestra joined and Ocean Rain was just beautiful. This was the best concert I have ever been too! I wish that they would come back-I would see this show again in a minute. You don't even have to be a fan of their music to appreciate it-it was just good music.

The Bunnymen with Orchestra rocked Ocean Rain

by UncleFreddy on 2009-10-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

A night any Bunnymen fan will never forget. To hear the entire Ocean Rain album live with an orchestra was incredible, chills, goosebumps...wow. Songs that EATB don't usually play live were a treat to hear like, Nocturnal Me, Yo Yo Man, Crown of Thorns. Of course they played Silver, Ocean Rain and Killing Moon. If you missed it they have another new album coming out called Fountain and hopefully they will come back to Toronto to promote it.

by Funkyme on 2009-10-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Awesome from start to finish, I was in elementary school when they "hit the big time" and it was a dream come true to see them. What I expected and what i saw... it was "even better than the real thing:" to quote another famous band... can't wait till they come back to Toronto. Better yet... Ian.... I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO legal now!!!!!

    Echo Concert

by Anonymous on 2009-10-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

The band was great, the sound crew was not. Didn't seem to have their stuff together. Also, the intermission in the middle of the concert was a bit awkward.

    Solid Bunnymen

by Effew on 2009-10-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

I had moderately high expectations of the show having seen the boys in the 80's. They were unpredictable then and some of that remained last night with Mac ignoring Toronto's smoking bylaws, ha to Mayor Miller. Over 20 years have passed since I first saw the Bunnymen at the Concert Hall and they were solid although lacking in some of the vibrancy they both emitted and enticed. The band and audience, both older and with kids in the audience, how much trouble could you really make? Older songs still sounded great even when they were melded together and the Ocean Rain set was strong as ever especially with the orchestration. As I recall, they always perform better in smaller venues so perhaps size does matter but in opposite regard. Still remain a Bunnymen fan and on the waiting list for The Fountain.

    Echo & The Bunnymen

by Jkay on 2009-10-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Good concert. Mac's voice was a liitle hoarse until he had a smoke. Show of Strength was my favourite number. Ocean Rain sounded great with the string section. Will's guitar fills were on the money. Still a great band to see live.

    Still Awesome!

by Musicfan1 on 2009-10-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

The show was great, though Ian's voice was rough when he was speaking (who knows what he was saying?) his voice was awesome when singing. The orchestra was great and added an extra depth to the show.
