Edmonton Elks History
The Edmonton Elks are a professional football team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Founded in 1949, the Elks have claimed 14 Grey Cup trophies, including a league-record five consecutive championships between 1978 and 1982. The Herd also hold the record for most consecutive seasons with a playoff appearance at 37 from 1972 to 2005. The Herd last hoisted the Grey Cup in 2015. Across the team’s history, eight players have won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player Award, while seven have been named Most Outstanding Defensive Player and four have earned the Most Outstanding Rookie Award. The Elks have been led by four Annis Stukus Trophy-winning coaches, which itself is named after Edmonton’s legendary first head coach.

Commonwealth Stadium has been the home of the Edmonton Elks since opening in 1978. The 56,302-seat facility received its first expansion in 1982, followed by renovations in 2001, 2008 and 2013. It is Canada’s largest open-air stadium by capacity. Elks fans can take in the team’s long-spanning history with the stadium’s Wall of Honour and follow along with cheers led by the team mascots, Punter and Spike. Meanwhile, Commonwealth Stadium has hosted five Grey Cup games, including one of its highest attended championship matchups in 2010.

My kids and I went last season and had a great time. The kids loved meeting the mascots Punter and Spike. We will definitely be going back this season. The kids 12 and under get in free deal made this an affordable option for us!
First year season ticket holder 2022 The team stinks (frustrating) the name change is horrendous (thanks Belair Direct) sound system is could be better, but it’s still fun.. I honestly get infuriated when they call them the Elks worst possible name. Hoping for a better team in 23 or we may find other ways to soend our money
Nice outing with kids Kids really enjoyed the game it’s unfortunate the Elks lost but it was still a nice night out
They drug abuse around the stadium and on the LRT is very prevalent. My kids are now scared to attend games.
We actually had to leave before the end of the 1st quarter as the PA system was so loud it was hurting our ears with each announcement. The only reason we didn’t leave sooner is I was on a hunt for ear plugs with in the stadium which they do not seem ll or offer via any merchandise stores or fan info booths.
Checked online for tickets during the week = $48. Ticket price at the gate on game day = $58. Ticket price on Ticketmaster online = $28 inc service charge. The win goes to TM.
Disappointed in game results and the low number of fans at the game, but more so disappointed that the Eskimo name was changed to Elks. I do believe that is why a lot of fans do not show up to the games anymore. Talked to many people who had season tickets but dropped them when the name change happened. They need to go back to Eskimos. The fan base may increase if they do. I will not Purchase fan gear if it says Elks… only Eskimos.
Total waste of money, honestly. Not even as a good pass time. Food, talent, entertainment...all bad.
I have been going to the Elks/esks games since I was 10 and this is the most disappointing team I have ever cheered for. I am begining to not want to attend games anymore. The entire team seems to not care anymore.
Had a great time attending the game with my daughter (8). Lots for her to see and do. It’s too bad though the Elks didn’t win!
Next time give a heads up of the rules attending the game we were harassed by the “security” over an umbrella and my purse we didn't know all the rules and they were not nice or patient at all
Why is there nobody at the games? Why is the upper-deck open. We have seen dwindling support because of the pricing tiers for one of the poorest run front offices in the league. The team will get better but having their president come on radio and say we are winning four in a row... please stop. We had enough gimmicks and poor decisions by hockey stick man and your embarrassing GM choice before hand.... please correct this so I actually want to go back. Coach Jones is working it, try to get some fans in the stands please. Christ all mighty
We got to the game a little late and realized that the seats I ordered werent wheelchair accessible, the staff there were fantastic in helping get some enjoyment out of the game though they lost Go Elks
The game was great!!! Watching live football is such a great experience and Commonwealth is such a great venue and icing on the cake is the Saskatchewan Roughriders won

Commonwealth is a great place to watch a game. LRT is the way to go!
The only issue we had was the absolutely ludicrous requirement to spend an extra $10 to put a purse inside a clear plastic bag. How is putting a purse with something dangerous into a clear plastic bag when the "dangerous" item is still in the purse and still available to the "criminal" enhancing security? I hope that no one actually got paid for coming up with that really stupid idea.
Great fans, beautiful outdoor stadium. Love attending events here especially the elks.
As a Blue Bombers fan, it was my first experience as a visitor at a professional game. The stadium was great, exceptional employees at the gate and concession, security was ever present and the weather held up! More information on what to bring and bussing/transit would be helpful. I will come back again for many more events, and even cheer on the Elks!
Elks forgot to show up - even the weather poured down in protest!! We left after the 50/50 was drawn - the LRT was practically empty!!! Stadium is beautiful, snack and commentating great!!
