Their talent is superior to any other ballet I've ever seen.
The choreography of this ballet was one of the best I have seen, and I have seen many ballet performances in a number of countries. An exceptional translation of feelings and situations through movement. The lighting was also excellent and complimentary to the choreography. All dancers were also superb in their technical ability and their theatrical expression. I will remember this performance for a long time to come.
Me acquaintance with this group happened 30 years ago. Since then I have tried to attend all their performances. I enjoyed the show, as I am very fond of a modern ballet. I cannot even tell what I liked better: solo dances or group performances when on the stage was about 50 people or more. Interesting choreography, powerful music and excellent performance turned evening into a festival of a modern ballet!
Omg...are you kidding me. This was BREATHTAKING. There are no words to describe what this performance does. The way the dancers move their body is so profound and beautiful. One of the best ballets I have ever seen. I was speechless after. I love the canadian ballet but it doesn't compare to this.
The performance was beautiful! Superb talent and I enjoyed the choreography. I read the book so i could follow along and even my friend who had not could easily follow the storyline. The only thing I didn't understand was one part that completely threw me off other than that it was amazing. The only thing I suggest to the Sony Centre is to not let people into the theatre if they're late. The performance started and the people who took time to get there early couldn't see properly because other guests were walking in and turning on their phones to find their seats in the dark. Firstly, it's rude to people around you and also to the performers. Secondly, it's distracting to have phones on everywhere with people asking others to move because their seats are in the middle of a row. Proper etiquette! It's not that hard
Dramatic, modern, classic, this is a very streamlined version of Tolstoys classic literary masterpiece, an excellent production although it may be confusing for those who are not familiar with the novel.
I knew in advance that the ending to this ballet was not a happy one and I was concerned about intentionally seeing one that ended in such a way. However, after two and a half hours of absolutely stunning fluid movement that raised one's senses to such a heightened degree-not even death in the end could dampen the level of elation created. That speaks volumes to the tremendous effort put forth by onstage members and the ones not in the "spotlight". To be able to have audience members exit a performance wherein the final act is a sombre one and still leave feeling elated is a "magic act" indeed. BRAVO to everyone involved. I am very thankful to have been in attendance. THANK YOU.
It was interesting production and good quality performance. We really enjoy it. The only weakness is lack of live orchestra and recorded music was too quiet
The full Russian community turned out, it seemed, for the Saturday evening performance ... and loved it. Eifman is very athletic with lots of male leaps and even amazing contortions by the ballerinas. This was our first full-length ballet by this group and they were just as impressive as the short program they brought to Toronto two years ago. A full psychological drama. The main disappointment was the sound, really poor quality speakers blasting out the recorded music. Wouldn't you think Sony could do better? For the sell-out crowd that night, there also were not enough ushers. And Russians apparently don't believe in arriving on time, patrons were being escorted to their seats twenty minutes after the ballet had started and the lights out. Sony should make these tardy fans wait in the lobby.
Outstanding technique, expression and choreography. Performers were of outstanding quality and I have seen many ballet performances in various countries. Bravo for inviting such an excellent group to Toronto.
I loved everything ! The event was unforgettable !!!!!
Eifman is a creative genius. His production of Anna Karenina incorporates classical ballet with non-traditional movements. The chorus is tightly choreographed and the principal dancers are beautiful to watch. Spectacular production, highly recommended.
The Anna Karenina ballet was the most amazing I've ever seen. If you ever have a chance to go -you defenetly should)
How much you can say without words. Very touching performance!!!
A unforgettable and incredible show by the Great Eifman! Everything was so thoroughly choreographed, designed, thought out it made it all come together like magic. Eifman ballets are known to be amazing and this ballet definitely confirms it. Costumes and scenes like where a costume is meant to disappear (due to a transition) were fenominal. There wasn't an empty seat or anyone sitting at the end for applause. Incredible! A MUST see!!!
The ballet was amazing, but attending a classical ballet performance at the Sony Centre is not the greatest.... the latecomer policy seems to allow staff to seat patrons constantly after the start of the performance. This causes a significant disturbance as people are constantly getting up to let others into their rows. The performance also starts as soon as the lights are dimmed, even though people are still getting seated, shuffling about, and talking. A delay of a few seconds after the lights dim would go a long way to helping people enjoy the performance...People seem to also be allowed to bring their intermission beverages into the auditorium during a classical ballet performance. Their slurping and sloshing during the second half of the performance doesn't add anything to the event. I will seriously consider avoiding future performances at the Sony Centre unless house rules are changed.
This show was truly amazing. Dancers performance, choreography, costumes-everything is very impressive and breathtaking.
The modern adaptation of the classic book was amazing - nice choreography and very good performance.
More creative and acrobatic than regular ballet, e.g. National Ballet of Canada.
Simply amazing! The only thing was was not the best was the music. A live orchestra would have been much better.
