by Toshi on 2018-10-09Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

This event is fantastic! The dances are amazing and at a price that makes it affordable for a wide range of people. I love the quality and professionalism of the performances! Thank you to all the sponsors for making this happen and available!!! I love it!

All four parts were amazing and it offered a great variety, should it be style, choreography, songs or music. The energy was present as was great execution.I believe it was the best one I attended so far.

Fall for North Program 2 - 3 out of 4!

by SusanneS on 2018-10-09Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

First time attending this dance event. I went to Program 2 on Friday evening. Introdans was great - but I am so tired of diophanous dresses in pale colours, and everything being slightly depressing. Is that supposed to be "deep"? The National Ballet was its usual high standard if a little boring, and I couldn't see that that they conveyed the emotions mentioned in the program. Obeah Opera was way too long, too repetitive and really not that much dancing. If they didn't have those (beautiful and colourful) dresses, they'd not have much. But then: Herve Koube - WOW! Fabulous, different, energetic, disciplined and just sheer joy and fun. Despite my somewhat negative review, I will most certainly go next year and will not hesitate to recommend. Even the dances that one doesn't find super pleasing teaches us something!

    PROGRAM 2

by DANS on 2018-10-08Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Iintrodans was beautiful and with the support of the Glenn Gould School musicians, a perfect performance to enjoy. The smoothness of the dancers gave the story of love in its various stages, an extra visual pleasure to watch. Did not care too much for the Obeah Opera, long and repetitive. The National Ballet was predictably good. Compagnie Herve Koubo left us breathless. The energies in this performance were captivating and this was one of the best performances shown at the FFDN festival

    AMAZING!!!!

by Sm112244 on 2018-10-08Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I honestly can’t believe this performance cost just $15! The calibre of the dance was incredible, and I enjoyed it more than a $100 ballet performance. The last group was mind blowing and all 4 performances were stunning with so much energy and power on stage.

    Hit or Miss

by Chachama on 2018-10-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Program 1 was odd. Disappointing at times. Luckily, it ended on a very high note with the Soweto dancers. I would have been happy to see them only.

    Disappointed

by RJRN on 2018-10-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I was impressed with the dance portion of the evening but was disappointed in the Sony Centre for not disclosing that there would be nudity in the performance by Marie Chouinard. I do not have children but recognized that there were many there that their parents were embarrassed and ended up leaving after that performance. These parents are obviously trying to expose their children to the arts and I feel that by not disclosing that there was going to be nudity, this would reflect negatively on their experience and in the future have these parents (myself included) second guess of the content and if they should risk it. I am a intense lover of the arts and dance, and I was overall disappointed in the way this was handled by your Company. I have no problem with people expressing themselves in an artistic fashion and usually I encourage it, but allowing parents to make an educated decision on if it is appropriate for their children should be at the forefront of your business. Creating magical moments of live theater are what is going to inspire children and young adults to get into performing arts. Unfortunately I witnessed the opposite at this show where a number of parents left with their children embarrassed and deflated when all they wanted to do was share a culturally and artistically filled night with their families. Outside of that, the other performances were fabulous, and the seats we had were second to none. The first performance by Red Sky was brilliant, I respect bringing our countries past mistakes to light through performing arts as to not forget and disregard how these choices are still impacting those today. It was refreshing and enlightening to be apart of it.

    THURSDAY - REVIEW

by DANS on 2018-10-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Great program mix! All 4 companies were excellent and very different from each other. Enjoyed every moment.

    Very poor performance

by Ashevents5 on 2018-10-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

It was by far one of the worst events I have seen over the last few years. Curator did a very bad job , mixing different media with no relevance.

    Not what I expected

by Gramdma on 2018-10-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I understand this show is interpretative and modern but I found it a little lacking in the grace and elegance I expect to see in dance.

    Less dance more performance art

by RobinC on 2018-10-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The four pieces shown were the least enjoyable of all the pieces I have seen from Fall for dance. There seemed to be less dance and more performance art. It would have been nice in this grouping if there had been at least one piece in a different style. There was nudity that was unnecessary especially as there were many children in the audience.

    Total Letdown

by TorontoInLove on 2018-10-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I’ve attended 3 of the 4 years of the festival and LOVED it each time. The quality of this years program was incredibly disappointing. Nothing in comparison to previous years. Perhaps the other programs were better but I was truly disappointed. One of the pieces contained full nudity and lots of it, every dancer. There were children in attendance so perhaps there should have been a disclaimer of sorts. Not to mention that that piece was incredibly disturbing for other reasons. Next year is a maybe for me.

    FFDN Program 3

by Yumyum on 2018-10-07Ryerson Theatre - Toronto

We left the theatre feeling uplifted and continue to talk about the program. Each performance was interesting and well executed (although in our opinion the performance by La Otra Orilla was too long and the choreography repetitive). The selection of different dance companies and styles was very good, and the order of performances was excellent.

by DancersMom on 2018-10-06Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I attended Thurs. & Friday evening. Both shows were wonderful, especially Compagnie Marie Chouinard in Progam 1 and the entire show in Program 2.
