    Mostly boring

by MusicNotes on 2016-10-09Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The contrast of this programme to what I saw at the Wednesday night show (I went to both) was black and white! Wednesday night show - fantastic and magical! Thursday night - so very boring! First half of the night went on and on and on...just wouldn't end! Contemporary ballet: bland colour, bland choreography, dull music, boring lighting etc. of technical, soul-less dancing. This followed by an overlong intermission, followed by an interesting 2 person 15 min. dance, followed by yet another! 10 minute intermission, followed by a boring one-person dance piece to finally! get to some dance with some energy and interest - the Ukrainian dance troupe! No surprise they got the rousing appreciation of the audience! The whole thing ran 20+ minutes over schedule, was a mostly boring programme, with overkill of the classical/contemporary ballet piece to start the night...rather than putting the audience to sleep to begin, it would have been better to have left the ballet to the end....many people left prior to intermission... I'm so glad I had the chance to see the Wed. night showcase - if I'd only seen the Thursday night show, I would never go again. Now I know that the programming can be uneven, and that what night you choose to attend can mean that you either got lucky ...or not.

    Fall for Dance North

by Shyan on 2016-10-08Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The over all programme for three sets of performances was very good. However, not as spectacular as last year. Les Ballet Company of Montreal and the Shumka dance group were the best for me. I wish the shumka group performance could be bit longer. Friday's afternoon performance was a bit of disappointment. It was rather short and consisted of five short dances. I look forward to 2017.

    Mix of styles off

by Abdae on 2016-10-08Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The show failed for me in that all but one of the acts were modern. I felt there could have been a better balance.

    Fall for Dance

by clairsedore on 2016-10-08Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

this is the second year for this event at the Sony Centre, and judging from the audience reaction to the great dance companies that we got to enjoy, there will be more events to come. Last year the winner for us was the Atlanta Ballet Company and this year our own Grandes Ballet Canadien was the star. Congratulations to all those fantastic dancers that participated and brought more joy to our city

    Exciting Danceathon

by boncon on 2015-10-06Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Our evening exploded with the spectacular BC Ballet . What energy and excitement! Didn't think the rest of the programme could live up to it...but each company was unique and exciting in their own way. My favourite moment was in "Malungos" when the joyous comradery the dancers displayed spilled out into the audience and we were all laughing with them. Of course, my appreciation of "tap dancing" has now changed. It ain't just show-biz! Thank you for a glorious evening!

Fall DanceNOrth is a real hit!!!!

by Shyan on 2015-10-05Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I will go back and recommend Fall Dance North next year. It is the most amazing dance programme I have seen. The pool of talent was just incredible. Above all, the price and service charge were affordable and incredibly cheap in comparison. Please come back next year.

Fall For Dance North performances were phenomenal!

by Peppermintjelly on 2015-10-04Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Quality performances exceeded my expectations! At $10 per ticket allowed all people access to the arts who perhaps otherwise could not have afforded to attend.

Thank you for a very exciting evening of dance!...and only $10!! Each dance was unique for its genre. We look forward to next year's event! Alvin Aily's dancers were absolutely breath-taking in their emotion and athleticism of the choreography. Each dancer told their version of their relationship; they were so there for each other! I teared during my standing ovation! Bravo to you you both!! My favourite moment was watching the young dancers in the audience chatting with excitement, inspired by the varied and favourite dances.

    Sublime woven Tapestry.

by Sunspot on 2015-10-04Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

First dance of evening, 28,000 waves, beautiful, syncopated, strong yet sensitive dancing. My favorite of the evening. Followed by the duet, After the rain pas de deux, which was tender and danced with humility and grace. I enjoy Peggy Baker, Fractured Black, for the simplicity and raw emotion that came across very evocatively. I would have liked that dance in a more intimate setting. The other program I also enjoyed entertainment wise, Soundscape, the tap dancing it was energetic and fun. All over, a really great woven tapestry with different fabrics combining for a wonderful evening of dance.

    incredible program

by Brubeck on 2015-10-03Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

We chose this night out because of my love for flamenco dance. Well, what a pleasant surprise. Every act was perfect. We especially enjoyed the Soundspace group and of course the flamenco too. We have recommended this festival to many others for next year. We will be there.
