The village of Anatevka and its inhabitants became a real place for nearly 3 hours. We laughed, we cried and we felt the injustice along with these people. Bikkel WAS Tevya - not surprising after 2000 performances. At 85, this actor is truly amazing and really pulled the whole show together. I would enjoy it again in a heartbeat!
excellent, better than expected, time went by quickly
Fiddler on the Roof was an incredible show that we won't soon forget. The cast was amazing and did a fantastic job in both singing and acting. We would HIGHLY recommend this show to everyone!
This was indeed A Timeless Classic with superb acting by Theodore Bikel and the rest of the cast. Our four children have fond memories of watching this movie as they grew up. It's nice to know that quality productions are still in existance.
I was really happy ill recommended to anyone.good job guys and good luck with the rest of the tour.
Although the actual play is long . . . .it went by too quickly. The singing, dancing, and set designs were wonderful. It had everything and the characters were well casted. A truely enjoyable evening.
The production was absolutely fantastic, great singers/actors and the set was amazing especially the silouettes. Loved it and can't get the music out of my head this morning
A Classic! The set was beautiful and very, very, well done. The music a delight. The players were excellent. My only complaint is that it was from 8 p.m. to gone 11 p.m., too late for a weeknight.
It was a great show! Theodore Bikel as Tevye was Fantastic. I thought the seats were expensive for their locations and I didn't care for one of the actors singing though.
Brilliant sets, fabulous singing and dance. Tevia is not acted it is lived. Great evening.
The production of Fiddler on the Roof left us on cloud nine. The staging and scenery management was incredible. The vocals were unbelievable. After seeing the movie several times, seeing it live on stage was top notch.
My husband and i enjoyed the show to the utmost. The music, the settings and the characters were all and more than we had expected. The exit from the parking structure however was a horror scene. It took up 40 minutes to get out of the parkade. We enjoyed the stagee performance so much even the long wait ddn't dampen our spirits.
Being such a family classic, Fiddler is always a charm. My family and I decided to buy tickets when we learned that Topol was making the tour in the role of Tevye, which he made famous in the movie version in 1964. We were sad that he was injured recently and unable to perform. Theodore Bikel has performed the role of Tevye over 2000 times, and is highly qualified. In a brilliant performance last night, his sincerity, energy and clarity of voice were top shelf. It is surprising to learn he is 85 years old. The production appears to honor the original New York Stage direction, script and choreography . The set is typically clever, detailed and functional as for a Broadway type production. Performances were - at worst, very good, but for the most part - superb. The cast showed great energy, strong vocals and solid dancing - especially in the scenes where Tevye agrees to match Tzeitel with Lazar and later when the wedding party celebrates. This play has a current of gentle humour that enriches the whole experience. Delivery of that humour was charming and timely. While the play still preserves a cultural snapshot of a time and place it also respects the family-community dynamic. It is reflective and introspective (old traditions were once new) and highlights the challenges of change in a perspective that is still current and valid. The performance last night was enjoyable in every way, just as ought to be expected for this level of theater. My rating might fall more accurately around 4.5 stars (between "recommended" and "amazing"). Bravo.
Great show. I had seen the movies and this play is just as good. Great performers
Fiddler on the Roof is my daughter's favorite play and to see it performed with such high standards was the highlight of the year for both of us. The cast were incredible, the songs, the dancing - entrancing. We laughed. We cried. Thank you for bringing theater of this calibre to Edmonton.
A great 3 hour show with amazing singing and performances. Esp. from the lead actor. Unforgettable.
I've always loved the movie version of Fiddler on the Roof. When I heard that Topol was performing it live in Edmonton, I jumped at the chance. I was a bit disappointed when I heard he had left the tour due to injury. However, Theodore Bikel did a phenomenal job as Tevye. As well he should, having played the part over 2000 times! Though pushing 86, he didn't show his age at all, with the vocals and comedic timing being on point. The supporting cast each brought their own touches to the characters which added to the delight of the audience. The orchestra nailed each song with precision and feeling. The stage sets were also wonderful, flowing smoothly and quickly on and off stage almost as it they had a life of their own. This was my wife's first live performance of anything, and my first live Fiddler performance. We were not disappointed!
I loved it! It brought back so many nice memories.
Fiddler was exactly what I expected. Totally enjoyed the performance.
