  • Fiddler on the Roof was Fantastic

by ROOF on 2010-01-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

The Venue (Jubilee Auditorium) was an excellent choice as there are no bad seats in the house. The vast experience of the cast members was amazing. Theodore Bikel's performance was nothing less than outstanding. I would recommend this show to anyone.

  • Fantastic Fiddler

by LUUY on 2010-01-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

A wonderful production of the classic Fiddler of the Roof with the incomparable Theodore Bikel as Tevye. The time flew by as I was transported back to the early 1900's and the traditions of the Russian jewish community. I absolutely loved the scenes with the entire company, but Tevye stole the show with his facial expressions. A delightful preformance for the entire family, although I think that some of the "traditions" may be lost on the younger viewers.

The acting, the singing, the sets - everything was wonderful. There is alot of humor in the performance, which makes it enjoyable even for those who don't love music.

Fiddler on the Roof was a fantastic experience where I cried, I laughed, I danced, and I felt the pain of the characters. Kudos to actors that can make such an experience happen. The movement and flow of the set changes was done flawlessly and the music/songs made my feet tap everytime. Almost before it started I was trying to figure out how I might see it again!

The Fiddler is a MUST SEE production. I have never been so drawn into a story, place and time as I was with the presentation of this marvelous show.

  • fiddler disappointing

by susanincalgary on 2010-01-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

part of the problem was the venue - the Jubilee does not have steep enough seating to see over the heads of people in front. also we couldn't hear a lot of the dialogue, even from the front of the first balcony. the show itself was ok, not very good, certainly not great, although Tevye was terrific. I was disappointed by the rest of the cast, particularly the singing, which was rather ragged.

The play was very good the actors were awesome and the whole story was great! The people coming in late and inbetween the middle of scenes really wasn't pleasant but what do you do.

  • FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is WONDERFUL

by GolfingGal on 2010-01-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

What a wonderful way to spend three hours! FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is an excellent show filled with humor (thanks, Tevye), heartfelt moments and, of course, it's amazing music and songs! The stage props were perfect - - as was the entire show! We wanted to stay in our seats another three hours and watch it all over again!

We enjoyed the performance very much! The actors were all very engaging!

  • Bikel unbelievable

by Cashel on 2010-01-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Apparently Theo has performed as Tevye over 2,000 times prior to this performance. You would never know, he is fresh and invigorating and perfectly captures the the grouchy and traditional minded family patriarch who has not caught up with his times. The supporting cast is excellent especially Susan Cella as the long suffering wife and Erik Lieberman, the apparently meek tailor son-in-law, Motel who is not subdued by Teyve book misquotes and rants. Thoroughly enjoyable throughout.

  • Fiddler on the Roof was FANTASTIC

by fiddlerfan on 2010-01-14Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

As a lover of musicals and favorite stories, I thouroughly enjoyed the opening night of "Fiddler on the Roof". The musicians, the performers and the stage set up were perfect. I loved the stage setting and how everything moved so smoothly and reset the feeling for each scene. The lead performers played and sang the story to everyone's delight. There was enough humor and emotion to meet everyone's expectation of what the story was all about. I would certainly see this one over again, just as I have watched the movie over again. The songs are forever memorable.

  • Best Performance Yet!

by Mumzy on 2010-01-14Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

This production of Fiddler on the Roof is the best production of the play that I have seen in ages. I attend all local performances of this play (addicted to it) and this is the most vibrant cast doing an outstanding performance. If you have a chance to see it, please go, it is absolutely awesome! Thank you.

We were at the back of the first balcony, and the voices could have been a bit louder. Sometimes the music (which is wonderful) was a little over powering for the words the actors spoke, and each word must be heard! Still humming the tunes, and the show is one I would see again and again.
