About

Indie pop trio Foster the People came together in Los Angeles in 2009. The group is known for psychedelic, dance-orientated pop and rock which spans many genres. Their 2011 album Torches has sold over 321,000 copies and their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was the sixth-best-selling digital song in the same year, selling 3.84 million copies.
The band was formed by Mark Foster in 2009. He provides lead vocals and plays several instruments, including keyboards and guitar. His fellow band mates comprise Cubbie Finkton on bass and Mark Pontius on drums and percussion. Their first song “Pumped Up Kicks” was an internet success in 2011 and the group was offered a record deal. The band slowly began to build up a fan base by making appearances at small venues and appearing at several music festivals, including South by Southwest and at Coachella. They continued to perform and were booked for a month-long residency of concerts at the Echo night club in LA. By the time they came to perform for the third time, there were hundreds of people queuing to get in and the group were beginning to capture public attention.
Their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was released in 2011 and gained airplay on alternative radio stations, entering the Billboard Rock Songs Chart as well as the Alternative Songs Chart. In May of the same year, the track entered the Billboard Hot 100. Later that month, the group released the album Torches, which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 8. The band then embarked upon a sell-out tour in the US and Europe that lasted 10 months.
The band continued to build up a following, with ”Pumped Up Kicks” breaking into the mainstream top 40 and spending eight weeks at No. 3. Foster the People have scooped several awards for their music, including Top Rock Song for “Pumped up Kicks” at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. They have also been nominated numerous times, including two Grammy Award nominations for “Pumped Up Kicks” and Torches. At the awards ceremony, the band performed alongside Maroon 5 with The Beach Boys in celebration of the Beach Boys' fiftieth anniversary. In addition, the band have been nominated for two NME Awards and two MTV Music Video Awards. Their latest album is called SuperModel.

    Epic show!

by steff56822 on 2012-06-21Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed by Foster the People and Tokyo Police Club! I don't think they could have chosen two bands to go together that fit more perfectly! Tokyo was great as always. My only complaint was that I wish they would have played a bit longer! As for Foster the People, this was my first time seeing them live. I was very impressed with the entire show! They sounded great live, and put on a very interactive and high energy show! Will definitely be seeing them again next time they come to Toronto!

    Nailed it!

by AlexM on 2012-06-21Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

I wanted a great show, I got one! Nothing to complain about, everyone was happy to be there and having lots of fun. Mark and band mates never stopped jumping and keeping the crowd pumped- only 'cept for the amazing finale! Surprised us by starting off slow and ending with a crazy loud dance party. Giant blow up monsters, good music, rave-lights and confetti! Can't complain! :)

    Foster the People was rocking!

by lizzyloo on 2012-06-21Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

Man they put on a great show! I was amazed at how great their music sounded live and their mixes of songs sure got this one dancing :) They really seemed to get the crowd pumped up. Do wish that they did a little bit more talking, but can't complain as they are there for us to hear their music. Their finale of Pumped up Kicks was powerful, energetic and showed how these guys are the real deal through and through. So musically talented it was contagious. I'd definitely see them again! If you do....make sure you wear your dancing shoes.

by Haza on 2012-06-20Downsview Park - Toronto

I definitely did not expect FTP to be as good as they were. Their stage presence was great and their lighting/ special FX were so incredible. Would definitely do see them again!

Went last night to their Toronto show, I'm not even a huge fan of this band ( I like more heavy metal) but I had Vip so i managed to run and get front row, really enjoyed Kimbra she's a good singer and her band plays well, on the other hand did not like Tokyo Police club, their songs were bland and boring, BUT Foster The People were absolutely amazing they had such a great stage presence and really seemed to enjoy what they were doing, and mark foster even managed to jump off stage and climb in front of first row so we all managed to touch him ( not that I think he's anything special, it was just a nice thing for him to do because for hardcore fans stuff like that means a lot :) ) so the show was great, and they sound great live,if they come back to Toronto I am going for sure :)

    FTP = AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by shellay on 2011-10-15The Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

La love the Commodore Ballroom, and seeing Foster The People at one of my favorite venues was unreal! They had soo much energy, especially for it being their second show of the night! Mark Fosters voice is amazing live - he has so much energy as well as the other guys in the band. Seeing Foster go from guitar to percussion's to synthesizer is pretty amazing!! Ending the show with Pumped Up Kicks remixed was a REAL treat :D The best part of my night was meeting the band!! Good god those guys are amazing! And sooo nice! I ended the night with the biggest smile on my face :):) Tequila helps ;)

    Amazing Show!!

    by Shylo22 on 2011-10-13Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Right from the beginning the band had such high energy. Entire crowd got sucked in, and every song just added to the high. They sounded even better live then they do on their album. Remixing their own most famous song live for an encore? Incredible. Can't wait for them to return so I can go again!

One of the best new bands of our time

by RuggedFox on 2011-10-12Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Words alone cannot do justice to describe the experience of seeing Foster the People live on stage. Apart from releasing one of the best albums of 2011, the band has also proven to be one of the most magnetic and energetic acts out there. There is no weak link with these guys. If I could see them play every night of the week I would!

Happy dancey music with a great lights show

by Stephberg on 2011-10-12Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Foster the People put on a pretty good show, especially considering it was their second of the night! The music was very happy and poppy - great for dancing - and the fun lighting greatly enhanced the atmosphere. Points to their lighting director for that one! Their encore of Pumped Up Kicks was also a treat. They took the song that everyone wanted to hear and remixed it. It was good, it was new, it really added milage to the song, and the audience ate it up.

    Foster the People KILLED IT!

by QuinncyJ on 2011-10-12Showbox SODO - Seattle

They group is wrapping up their tour and have lost zero enthusiasm. They put on a great show, despite being tired from a cross-country flight the night before (they played SNL in NYC). Mark, the lead singer, had ample energy and rocked the stage. I LOVE THEM and will see them whenever I can, especially after seeing this performance.

    Unbelievable energy!

by Saranardo on 2011-10-12Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Foster the People are hands down one of the best bands i've heard live! Mark Foster nailed the vocals. and the band was unbelievable the songs sounded even better during the performance by adding in longer more instrumental intro's, i absolutely loved it! The band had great presence and energy. The lead singer Mark was phenomenal he was engaging with the audience a lot walking to each side of the stage and directly acknowledging people my friend who i was with, actually was pointed out during "pumped up kicks" and Mark sang a bit of the song to her!!! Almost every song from the album was on the set list save for one or two, and the crowd actually got to listen to an unreleased song off their album "torches" called "ruby". The ending of the show was soo fun the opening band walked out on stage and joined in for "pumped up kicks" they were all dancing around and the lead singer from Reptar and Mark sang the chorus a bit together, it was really fun, and definitely worth my money. I would absolutely go see Foster the People again.
