GERRY DEE ON TOUR:
Personal story looms large in the stand-up of Canadian comic Gerry Dee. A former sportsman and physical education teacher, Dee's act draws heavily on the comic potential of institutional learning and the inherently funny dynamic of teacher and student. As a finalist on the 2007 season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee more than proved his performance chops, beating out most of the competition to take home 3rd place. With his hit sitcom Mr. D entering its third season, Dee is sure to be sharper than ever on The Real Mr. D 2014 Comedy Tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Ontario, Gerry Dee played varsity hockey and golf at university before going on to become a physical education teacher. His experiences coaching young athletes and students provided him plenty of fodder for his stand-up act, and in 1999 he was named Toronto's Funniest New Comic. After deciding to pursue comedy full-time, Dee went on to win numerous comedy competitions and prizes in the '00s, including the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2002 — an honor he shares with comic legends Robin Williams and Ellen Degeneres. After a successful appearance on the 5th season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee launched his namesake sitcom Mr. D on Canadian television in 2012, announcing its renewal for a third season in 2014.
I was laughing so hard, I cried. Great show, not just a repeat of his material I already knew.
I thought that Gerry Dee gave a very poor performance, would not go see him again, his performance was long not funny and very boring, too bad I thought it was going to be great.
We started laughing from the beginning right to the end. The show was reasonably priced and Gerry was hilariously entertaining. Next time he is at the River Cree, we will be there.
Gerry dee is hilarious! Would recommend his shows to my friends and family. Great night out!
Gerry Dee was extremely funny, pee in your pants kind of funny
Gerry Dee is a funny talented man with jokes that are delivered well, and ring true to life.
Gerry Dee was very funny, quick and enjoyable. Brought a 15 year old that really enjoyed it as well! Would definitely see him again and the "first guy" that opened for him was really funny too!
Gerry Dee live lived up to my expectations. I love his TV show and being a teacher myself, was super excited to see his live comedy. After the show he did a meet and greet for anyone who wanted to line up to get a photo, sign something or simple say hi. What a guy! Super friendly! Although I found the ticket prices to be somewhat high, I absolutely loved the show and thought it was worth it.
What a show! As teachers (and the partners of teachers) we were so entertained by Gerry's anecdotes about marking, planning, coaching, and interactions with students. We were also in stitches over his parenting and marriage stories, and stories about his parents. He's funny, creative and a true entertainer. We really enjoyed that he brought his friends into the show, too -- his friend doing a T-Rex/Velociraptor impression was hilarious! I would highly recommend Gerry Dee to anyone looking for a great night out with lots of laughs -- you don't have to be a teacher or married to one! :P
I've been a fan since his "Last Comic Standing" introduction to my comedy world; his show is sharp and funky, but his cocky, real, and earnest stories/bits/tales are GREAT, they were hilarious - and my wife, who barely knows his work, LOVED the show.
Hello, Overall this was a fantastic evening! The jokes were funny and the opener was really good. The only comment we would have is that it was very difficult to see the stage. Some big screens would have enhanced our experience by a lot. Other than that we were pleased!
Gerry was good as expected and his opening act Graham was a great surprise.
He was really funny, lots of good material that seemed to come out naturally and not rehearsed. He interacted with the audience a lot. His back in forth with the 10 year old in the audience was awesome.
This is about the fourth time we have seen Gerry live. 5 stars everytime. Great new material, and the older stuff still had us in stitches.
This is my second time seeing Gerry Dee!! I thoroughly enjoyed his set and the NAC is a great venue.
Gerry Dee did not disappoint and I love that he interacted with the audience. I wished the show was longer
Amazing, I laughed all night. Would love to see him again.
Last I checked Gerry Dee was not the sort of Big Star IE. Madonna, Prince, Rihanna who routinely keep fans waiting for them to take the stage. Gerry Dee was late getting to the venue causing a delay in the theatre doors opening and the show starting. While the Opener was funny, no-one was there to see him and his presence just made the wait even longer. When Gerry Dee finally did take the stage he looked like a homeless person in a rumpled hoody. Either he was drunk or was nursing the worst hangover known to mankind. His timing was off, appearing lost or confused most of the night. He tripped over a rug on stage then threw it across the stage, spilled his water, and was just generally off. Granted he was comical, but he was so unprofessional it was hard to get past it and enjoy what is normally a truly funny comedian. I hope his Edmonton stop was a one-off and no-one else on this tour had to witness what we did. I also hope there isn't a bigger underlying problem as that would be a huge waste of talent.
Gerry Dee was an awesome night of comedy. Will go again!
Gerry Dee was very funny as usual. I have seen him many times and he never disappoints. A good time was had by all. The opening act was also very funny. The whole night was well worth the money.
