GERRY DEE ON TOUR:

Personal story looms large in the stand-up of Canadian comic Gerry Dee. A former sportsman and physical education teacher, Dee's act draws heavily on the comic potential of institutional learning and the inherently funny dynamic of teacher and student. As a finalist on the 2007 season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee more than proved his performance chops, beating out most of the competition to take home 3rd place. With his hit sitcom Mr. D entering its third season, Dee is sure to be sharper than ever on The Real Mr. D 2014 Comedy Tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Ontario, Gerry Dee played varsity hockey and golf at university before going on to become a physical education teacher. His experiences coaching young athletes and students provided him plenty of fodder for his stand-up act, and in 1999 he was named Toronto's Funniest New Comic.  After deciding to pursue comedy full-time, Dee went on to win numerous comedy competitions and prizes in the '00s, including the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2002 — an honor he shares with comic legends Robin Williams and Ellen Degeneres. After a successful appearance on the 5th season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee launched his namesake sitcom Mr. D on Canadian television in 2012, announcing its renewal for a third season in 2014.

I had bought the tickets for my wife's birthday as she is a teacher and has seen Jerry Dee at teachers convention. We both enjoyed the evening and shared quite a few different laughs throughout the evening.

  • Fantastic New Year's Eve Entertainment

We were in a group of four. We all throughly enjoyed the show. So many talented performers and funny, funny stuff.

  • Gerry Dee was crude and not enjoyable

The Gerry Dee event in Calgary was surprisingly in poor taste. We were not expecting a crude comedy routine and it was not very enjoyable. We were able to take in the show with a discount for teachers and found that his comedy was quite rude to teachers and very crude. Not what we were expecting from him especially with kids in the audience.

  • Gerry Dee Disappointing

by SSim on 2013-01-01Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

The two warm up acts for the Gerry Dee event were funny and entertaining. Gerry Dee was disappointing. The sound level was too low to hear many of his jokes and many of the jokes were repetitions of ones heard on commercials on television and seen at other times. He needed to get some more material. Also, I am not sure what the rating of the show was, but there were younger people in the audience who probably came because his television show may be rated G. The show was not G rated, but there was not need to have it at a higher rating. I have not watched his television show, but have seen him in video in the past. I don't think I would bother seeing him again.

  • Gerry Dee is Hilarious

Sooo funny, it was like he was talking about my life! Funny because it's true.

  • Funny but short and repetitive

by MMlaughs on 2012-12-31Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

We really enjoyed the show, however found that it was very similar to what you see on TV - some new material would be good. Also, between the two opening acts, the show overall was very short. The female comic was not at all funny, and her jokes about bulemia and "overly skinny" girls were in very poor taste (to say the least), especially considering that so many women have major issues that can be life threatening. Loved Taylor A LOT and really enjoyed Gerry Dee!

  • Fun Night Out

by DR2013 on 2012-12-31Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Comedians always a wild card, but I found the show very enjoyable and entertaining evening. 8 of us attended and all enjoyed it. Especially funny for parents, and/or teachers. MC very funny as well. A few f-bombs but overall clean and not offensive, in my opinion. Maybe two short lulls where you weren't laughing. MC was 30 minutes, 20 minute intermission, Dee performed for about 1 hour. Good length. Gerry Dee was available for photos afterward.

Like the title said, hilarious. He says all the things everyone is thinking or wishes they could say. People, use your brain and do not take kids to this show.

Was a funny mohfoh. I laughed pretty hard at his punchlines, good starting lineup as well. Was pleasantly delighted with the event.

  • very funny but not child friendly

by codeman on 2012-12-31Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Quite funny and both warm up acts did a great job. Gerry did swear a lot and it was definitely not child friendly and Gerry even let the audience know that several times.

  • Not what we expected

by gabby999 on 2012-12-31Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 3 out of 5

We are huge fans of Mr. D and Gerry Dee's sports reporter stuff, but his live show was disappointing for us. We must be getting old - there were way too many f-bombs for our taste and no one in our group thought the special olympian joke was funny.

He was really funny! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time!

  • Gerry Dee - Funny with too many F bombs!

by EdmFans on 2012-12-31Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

We really liked the opening act - another comedian (didn't catch his name). Excellent style, but was on for only 30 min. and then they had a 20 min. intermission. What a terrible flaw on the part of show organizers! After this premature break, they had Gerry Dee for 1 hr and 20 min. and that was it... I would say I was 75% satisfied with the show - Gerry Dee was OK. His Mr. D show on CBC is way more funny than seeing him alive. Sorry, but that's the truth... Also, he intentionally used WAY TOO MANY "F" words... Totally unnecessary and uncalled for. Especially after Gerry Dee has established that there were kids in the audience who were 9 (NINE!) years old... and several 12-13 yrs old. How sad for those parents who brought them to this show.

  • Gerry Dee was hilarious!! Great Canadian comedy.

by Anonymous on 2012-12-30Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Gerry Dee is one funny, funny man! It's hard to find a comedian that can make you laugh so hard that you are left in tears, all the while using clean humor. Jokes that everyone can relate to, Gerry Dee leaves the audience very satisfied! Even though we had seen him on comedy shows, the jokes still made us roar. The way he encorporates the audience into his skits makes each performance more personable. A great comedian, we will definitely be seeing him next time he's in town!

  • Gerry Dee, more like Gerry A+!

by Boomboom1978 on 2012-12-30Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Opening act was Kelly Taylor, and he got the crowd laughing and anticipating Gerry Dee. Gerry Dee then took the stage after a 20 minute intermisson. Gerry was funny from start to end. Favourite moment for my wife was Gerry's explaination of how childbirth ends relationships.
