GERRY DEE ON TOUR:
Personal story looms large in the stand-up of Canadian comic Gerry Dee. A former sportsman and physical education teacher, Dee's act draws heavily on the comic potential of institutional learning and the inherently funny dynamic of teacher and student. As a finalist on the 2007 season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee more than proved his performance chops, beating out most of the competition to take home 3rd place. With his hit sitcom Mr. D entering its third season, Dee is sure to be sharper than ever on The Real Mr. D 2014 Comedy Tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Ontario, Gerry Dee played varsity hockey and golf at university before going on to become a physical education teacher. His experiences coaching young athletes and students provided him plenty of fodder for his stand-up act, and in 1999 he was named Toronto's Funniest New Comic. After deciding to pursue comedy full-time, Dee went on to win numerous comedy competitions and prizes in the '00s, including the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2002 — an honor he shares with comic legends Robin Williams and Ellen Degeneres. After a successful appearance on the 5th season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee launched his namesake sitcom Mr. D on Canadian television in 2012, announcing its renewal for a third season in 2014.
We enjoyed the show. Gerry was funny the moment he stepped on the stage. A lot of variety in his jokes. An area to improve could be a screen behind him so those in far away seats could see his facial expressions. Or maybe I could just buy tickets sooner :) Great entertainment!
Took the whole family to see. We have seen his DVD and tv special. So funny. Recommend to everyone, but not for kids under 16. Some mature subject matter.
I strongly recommend seeing this show. Gerry is hilarious. I was in tears at points, also the way he gets the audience involved makes for a great atmoshpere. Go see him !
Tickets said 7:30, rush there to find out the doors open at 7:30. He is to go on at 8pm. Then he has a warm up act, comedian, who was on for almost half hour. Seasoned, excellent performers do not need warm up acts. When Gerry did come out, he did the same routine I have seen on TV that he has done for comedy shows/specials. I do not follow him like my husband does, but I could almost recite his routine. I would have been better off staying at home and watching him on TV. He resorts to a lot of swearing ,which shows a lack of talent in a comedian. Funny parts, but all and all, I find him to be a downer, who borders on being mean and cruel, rather than funny. He ends his act abruptly, and not with the right joke. I would not go and see him live again.
Found Gerry consistently funny, did a good job interacting with the crowd.
This event was fantastic. I bought these tickets for a friend for Christmas, and it was the perfect gift. The opening comedian was funny and we could relate to the jokes, and Gerry Dee had us laughing for the remainder of the night. Great time all around.
He was very funny and we enjoyed our evening with him and the opening act.
My wife and I took my in law, who were visiting us for Christmas to Mr.D last night, what a good show! before going I wasn't sure how it was going to be but after seeing it we all found him so hilarious! I was at the Just for laugh comedy show in November and it was also good but this one beats it 150%! The interaction with the public was absolutely genius, my best comedy tour in a long time! I will not miss his next tour! Thx Mr.D for this laughing stomach cramps! LOL.
The concert was awesome. I have read some pretty negative reviews of Gerry, but we were not disappointed. I've wanted to see him for a while now. He was funny, witty, and engaged with the audience. I like his style/brand of humor. Would definitely go again. The only thing is there are no t-shirts available on his web site, like was announced after he left the stage. It was stated to go to his site (there were none sold at the venue) for shirts, & he would sign them.
What a fantastic show he put on! Very similar to his Mr D character so if you like that then you will like this, we loved it!
We saw Gerry Dee the last time he was in Winnipeg and thought he was funny but this time he was even funnier! There was less "teacher" humour but we were still thoroughly entertained!
Saw Gerry Dee a couple years ago. Maybe it was the case that he had lost a loved one, was recently dumped or exhausted by his newly found fame but he was utterly uninspiring. I wondered why he hadn't canceled the show, he was so detached and unengaging. Big disappointment. A real performer would've spared his fans the pain and refunded their money. Regrettably he`s now on our ``must avoid seeing`list.
Would definitely go again. Great show. Good venue.
My husband made my buy the tickets as I am not really a stand up comedian fan. I laughed the whole time along with everyone else. Worth every penny
Very funny show. I'll go see Gerry again, next time he is in the area. My stomach still hurts from laughing!

GERRY DEE WAS ABSOULTELY HILARIOUS! FANTASTIC SHOW! SO HAPPY WE WENT!! WE WERE CRYING WE LAUGHED SO HARD! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMENED SEEING HIM LIVE AND WATCHING HIS SHOW MR. D!!!! THANKS GERRY DEE FOR BEING SO AWESOME!
Gerry Dee is very funny. I can relate to a lot of the material as I work in a school. I had heard a lot of it before - I still laughed but I had hoped there would be some new material.
Gerry Dee had us laughing from start to finish. Clean stories, minimal bad language, suitable for everyone. Interaction with the audience was hilarious. Made us cry from laughing - he was excellent.
Great comic to see. Down to earth guy, lots of laughs!!
