GERRY DEE ON TOUR:

Personal story looms large in the stand-up of Canadian comic Gerry Dee. A former sportsman and physical education teacher, Dee's act draws heavily on the comic potential of institutional learning and the inherently funny dynamic of teacher and student. As a finalist on the 2007 season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee more than proved his performance chops, beating out most of the competition to take home 3rd place. With his hit sitcom Mr. D entering its third season, Dee is sure to be sharper than ever on The Real Mr. D 2014 Comedy Tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Ontario, Gerry Dee played varsity hockey and golf at university before going on to become a physical education teacher. His experiences coaching young athletes and students provided him plenty of fodder for his stand-up act, and in 1999 he was named Toronto's Funniest New Comic.  After deciding to pursue comedy full-time, Dee went on to win numerous comedy competitions and prizes in the '00s, including the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2002 — an honor he shares with comic legends Robin Williams and Ellen Degeneres. After a successful appearance on the 5th season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee launched his namesake sitcom Mr. D on Canadian television in 2012, announcing its renewal for a third season in 2014.

  • Gerry Dee Delivers the Funny Again!

    by kevin76 on 2014-03-05GPRC Theatre - Grande PrairieRating: 5 out of 5

Was very happy that Gerry Dee came to Grande Prairie, the place was Sold out. Seen him once in Calgary and at the Edmonton Yuk Yuks before. He had a great show everytime. There were some jokes I had heard at previous shows, but there was a lot of new material. The opener was great too. I wish I could remember who he was. He was a Newfie. Hope he makes a return to Grande Prairie again! I had written an email to Gerry a year or so ago on his website, and suggested he come to Grande Prairie to do a show. Low and behold, he came here. Even held the show at the Theatre I suggested he do his show in. Don't know if my email had anything to do with him coming here, but I like to think it did. (You're welcome G.P.) :)

  • Gerry Dee WAS SO FUNNY!

Gerry Dee's stand-up was one of the best stand-ups I have ever had the pleasure of attending live and he is by far one of the best comedians out there and without a doubt the top Canadian comedian currently. His jokes were amazing and his interaction with the audience had my jaw hurting from all the laughter! He was also so humble and grateful that he stuck around after the show to take pictures in the lobby with the audience! Thanks Gerry Dee for an amazing experience!

  • Gerry Dee is a hoot!

Great show! Certain parts of the show weren't as funny as others, but it was well worth the $60 a ticket we paid!

Loved the show. Great for couples that have kids. I have a child that is high functioning ASD and loved the jokes (so true); I was not insulted at all!

  • Terrible show...they're lucky they got 2 stars!!!

by ComedyGIRL15 on 2013-01-06Main Stage Theatre at the Toronto Centre for the Arts - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

I went to the New Years Eve show, and let me tell you...I was very disappointed. For these reasons: 1) I felt like everything was too PG rated (they weren't like your typical rude/foul language comedians - which are usually the best). 2) The pre-show comedians were not even funny...they were basically playing games on stage and everything sounded rehearsed like a play, which made the overall performance intolerable. 3) They started about 15-20mins late and ended pretty early. 4) Mr.D was moderately funny, but out of the 2 hours there, he was on stage for about 20 minutes max...So we had to put up with the crappy people for most of the time. 5) The family beside us actually left and never came back after the intermission (we would've too, but for 2 of us we paid $150...so wasting money was not an option for us). 6) The theater where it was held was HOT and claustrophobic, and unfortunately the person sitting in front of me and beside them were very tall...so I couldn't see properly. 7) The show was supposed to start at 7:30...they let us in the seating area @5 mins to...and didn't start until 7:50ish. If you want to see a truly good comedian/performance/pre-show...I would definitely recommend Kevin Hart and Gabriel Iglesias, they are amazingly funny and their crew rocks! We went to see them both in 2012 and loved the shows. Gave those ones 5+ stars! Overall a terrible experience and wouldn't go back to that place or to see Mr.D...sorry.

Show was well done and very enjoyable. The cast was so friendly and accomodating after the show as well. Would go again!

I had bought the tickets for my wife's birthday as she is a teacher and has seen Jerry Dee at teachers convention. We both enjoyed the evening and shared quite a few different laughs throughout the evening.

  • Fantastic New Year's Eve Entertainment

by Darlene31 on 2013-01-02Main Stage Theatre at the Toronto Centre for the Arts - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

We were in a group of four. We all throughly enjoyed the show. So many talented performers and funny, funny stuff.

  • Gerry Dee was crude and not enjoyable

by Anonymous on 2013-01-01Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

The Gerry Dee event in Calgary was surprisingly in poor taste. We were not expecting a crude comedy routine and it was not very enjoyable. We were able to take in the show with a discount for teachers and found that his comedy was quite rude to teachers and very crude. Not what we were expecting from him especially with kids in the audience.

  • Gerry Dee Disappointing

by SSim on 2013-01-01Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

The two warm up acts for the Gerry Dee event were funny and entertaining. Gerry Dee was disappointing. The sound level was too low to hear many of his jokes and many of the jokes were repetitions of ones heard on commercials on television and seen at other times. He needed to get some more material. Also, I am not sure what the rating of the show was, but there were younger people in the audience who probably came because his television show may be rated G. The show was not G rated, but there was not need to have it at a higher rating. I have not watched his television show, but have seen him in video in the past. I don't think I would bother seeing him again.

  • Gerry Dee is Hilarious

by AirdrieMom on 2012-12-31Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Sooo funny, it was like he was talking about my life! Funny because it's true.

  • Funny but short and repetitive

by MMlaughs on 2012-12-31Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

We really enjoyed the show, however found that it was very similar to what you see on TV - some new material would be good. Also, between the two opening acts, the show overall was very short. The female comic was not at all funny, and her jokes about bulemia and "overly skinny" girls were in very poor taste (to say the least), especially considering that so many women have major issues that can be life threatening. Loved Taylor A LOT and really enjoyed Gerry Dee!

  • Fun Night Out

by DR2013 on 2012-12-31Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Comedians always a wild card, but I found the show very enjoyable and entertaining evening. 8 of us attended and all enjoyed it. Especially funny for parents, and/or teachers. MC very funny as well. A few f-bombs but overall clean and not offensive, in my opinion. Maybe two short lulls where you weren't laughing. MC was 30 minutes, 20 minute intermission, Dee performed for about 1 hour. Good length. Gerry Dee was available for photos afterward.

  • Gerry Dee was hilarious

by riderpride on 2012-12-31Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Like the title said, hilarious. He says all the things everyone is thinking or wishes they could say. People, use your brain and do not take kids to this show.

  • Gerry D

Was a funny mohfoh. I laughed pretty hard at his punchlines, good starting lineup as well. Was pleasantly delighted with the event.

  • very funny but not child friendly

by codeman on 2012-12-31Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Quite funny and both warm up acts did a great job. Gerry did swear a lot and it was definitely not child friendly and Gerry even let the audience know that several times.
