GERRY DEE ON TOUR:

Personal story looms large in the stand-up of Canadian comic Gerry Dee. A former sportsman and physical education teacher, Dee's act draws heavily on the comic potential of institutional learning and the inherently funny dynamic of teacher and student. As a finalist on the 2007 season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee more than proved his performance chops, beating out most of the competition to take home 3rd place. With his hit sitcom Mr. D entering its third season, Dee is sure to be sharper than ever on The Real Mr. D 2014 Comedy Tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Ontario, Gerry Dee played varsity hockey and golf at university before going on to become a physical education teacher. His experiences coaching young athletes and students provided him plenty of fodder for his stand-up act, and in 1999 he was named Toronto's Funniest New Comic.  After deciding to pursue comedy full-time, Dee went on to win numerous comedy competitions and prizes in the '00s, including the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2002 — an honor he shares with comic legends Robin Williams and Ellen Degeneres. After a successful appearance on the 5th season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee launched his namesake sitcom Mr. D on Canadian television in 2012, announcing its renewal for a third season in 2014.

Gerry and his opening act put on a great show. Both very funny and everyone could relate to what they were saying. Fun time had by all.

Sooo funny! I am not usually a person who laughs out loud easily, but I laughed almost the entire time. .

The opening act was Mark Forward who was simply hilarious, followed by the ever funny Gerry Dee. Gerry even invited the audience to join him after the show to have their pictures taken with him! I wish that I'd brought his book to be autographed!

Gerry Dee and Mark Forward were hilarious. I have seen Mark a few times, and I have never been disappointed.

Gerry Dee was so funny and such a great story teller. Great improv in getting the audience involved. Kept those jokes running throughout the show. The opening act April Wine was just as funny as Gerry Dee as well!

As funny as it was, I could have spared the 50 bucks and watched the same routine on YOUTUBE for free. Is it time for some new jokes? I think so.

  • The Real Deal

by Kirdy on 2012-12-18Hamilton Place Theatre - HamiltonRating: 4 out of 5

Gerry's performance was wonderfully funny. I especially liked how he "gauged" his audience and inquired if there were any young people in the theatre. I wanted to bring my 12-15 year old children but didn't know what to expect. (They love him too!). Now I know I can trust his clean comedy to be fun for the whole family! The only drawback to that was his opener, who's main material (although funny, for adults for sure!) would not be suitable for young audience. We drove in from Mississauga to see the show, bought the tickets as an early Christmas present for my "teacher" husband, we had a great night out, we are loyal fans! I loved his classic bits as well as his new material.

  • What happened to Gerry Dee?

by Deedledee on 2012-12-09Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg, MBRating: 1 out of 5

I am sorry to admit it, but we were so disappointed in the show. We have seen Gerry Dee three times and have always appreciated how funny he was without being rude, mean and using fowl language. We are fans of all kinds of comedians, Tosh is super offensive and that's his thing, we love him. Gerry's thing used to be different but this show was all swears and insults, not cute. Sadly, this was our third and probably last Gerry Dee show. Bring back the last comic standing please!

Very funny! As a teacher and a Mom I could relate to the humorous stories!

  • Gerry Dee seems like a down to Earth guy

Most of the material I've seen from Gerry Dee was school related, either himself in school or his experiences teaching. This current show has more about family life, which is good because even though everyone can related to school life, family life is far more memorable when you have a close family. Also, his ability to banter with the audience is just as good as anyone else and makes it worth seeing the show knowing that the show you saw might've been a little different because of the audience.

Sarcasm and common sense humour is right up my alley! I had a blast and can't wait for the next opportunity to see Gerry (and Mark)

This guy knows how to deliver a show. He had the whole place laughing from the moment he took the stage right until he walked off. If you can get tickets to see his show, you must go! You will not be disappointed.

I became a fan after seeing Gerry Dee on Last Comic Standing. This was my 3rd time seeing Gerry Dee live. I own the first DVD. Even though I know most of his bits, his delivery is so good and he gets tighter with each tour. I recommend him often.

Great night of comedy from Canada's bright new star. Classsic Gerry style, focused primarly around his years as a teacher. Gerry has some of the best impersonations of the "children" (students) of his past - totally hilarious. He is also so very relatable because we have all been through the system. Mark Forward opened the show and was great. His non-sequiter (sp?) style of humor is the exact opposite of Gerry and was a great way to start the evening. I personally have enjoyed Marks brand at Yuk Yuk over the years. Great night out and fun had by all.
