FANTASTIC! The Grandstand show amazed me! It surpassed my expectations. The fireworks were the best I've ever seen (it makes Toronto look pitiful) . The artist where just amazing and the surprise KISS performance was excellent. As a Canadian this must be in your bucket list! The pictures that I uploaded does no justice. You must see it, pictures do not justify it.
Calgary Stampede: GMC Rangeland Derby & TransAlta Grandstand Show was excellent, Great Seats, Great Show. Best fireworks ever
Based on my experience two and three years ago, I would not have come. However, we had out of town visitors who specifically asked to go. We were seated in section 714 - excellent view of both the chuckwagon races and the grandstand show. Also a good view of the fireworks. The sound system is very bad - I could only understand the Stampede Queen who spoke distinctly, slowly and clearly. I could hear very well in the washroom, however! My opinion is that the speakers are too loud - there may as well not been commentary for the chuckwagons. The bass consistenly overpowered everything in the Grandstand show through the KISS section, after that it was quite a bit better. It was great to see the Alberta Ballet and a more 'classical' part of the show - better representing the diversity of Calgary's arts community. As usual, the Young Canadians were wonderful! If the Stampede can guarantee more diverse shows and the high quality exhibited this year, I wll gladly return.
Chuckwagon races were great, stage show was average not bad for locals, would NOT recommend the Buffet dinner @ $35 per head (overpriced for what they had), suggest they seriously look at what they offer if the Stampede wants to impress visitors, prime rib over cooked, roast potatoes were roast hash browns (very little taste to anything), only saver was the salad bar, deserts looked and tasted like store bought.
We took my in-laws to see this show and they really enjoyed it. They have never seen such a show before and would definitely come to Calgary for stampede especially to see this show again.
Despite the flood a few weeks prior and the rain the morning of our event, the skys brightened and we had a great time. Good job to all.
I go to the Stampede numerous times a year however this was my first time seeing the Chuckwagons at the Calgary Stampede. It was everything I hoped for and will definately be seeing them again.
Lots to see; great entertainment; wonderful fireworks

I loved the Chuckwagon races! They were so exciting the night we went. The track was nothing but slush, but that seems to have added to the excitement. How the chuckwagons were able to maneuvre each lap......amazing. As far as the grandstand show, I think it fell a little short. It is big and spectacular but there was a singer there doing cover songs by Freddy Mercury and Elvis. Didn't work for me. You don't take on such big icons and songs that can't be covered. This is where the show ran out of steam for me. The violinist playing while the hoop dancer did his thing just didn't work either. The sounds of the indian bells and the violin just didn't work. Everything else was fast pace and superb and I would still highly recommend it.
The Grandstand sow was fabulous except for the 4 tenures as one singer constantly put the group out of tone. But the firework dedication to the flood support was bang on and so well done. Seeing performers hang from mid air esp[ecailly the piona was out of the world. Best ever show I saw and I have seen 10!

The Grandstand Show at the Calgary Stampede is an amazing experience. We try to go every year and will continue to do so even though the 2012 event will be hard to match. The only possible criticism is it overwhelms the viewer. It always provides no less than dance, acrobatic, solo singing artist, singing group, cultural, pyrotechnic and theatrical performances. The last couple of year's included motocross trick riders to that long list, and other years have included comedic performances.
This was our third Calgary Stampede experience and although we've enjoyed all three, the 2012 grandstand show was the best yet. Paul Brandt was awesome and the Young Canadians were spectacular....and unbelievable. Where do those kids come from? The performances were outstanding; unlike anything we've ever seen. The Grandstand Show is a MUST SEE for everyone. The chuckwagon races were very exciting too. Enjoyed the pre-show with Chanse Vigen too.... Calgary, you outdid yourselves; thank you again for a fabulous time. Looking forward to next year!!!
The Derby was awesome and loved seeing the award given to Kelly Sutherland. The Granstand show was over the top in activity. Too much to see and absorb,
The only good part about the show was Paul Brandt. I dont particulary want to watch kids dance, adults sure, but not kids.
The only criticism I would have is a technical one. We were way up in the north side of the grandstand, almost at the edge , far away from viewing the show full on. It was great to have the big screens mounted so that we could see what was happenining but most of the camera shots were taken from the side. We could already see what was going on from the side!!! It would be more beneficial for them to take front shots, so we could enjoy the show.
The anthem and the Canadian flag, flown by our armed forces was the highlight of the night. The young Canadians performance was very good, as we're all the other acts. My only concern is the amount of activity going on at the same time. You can't watch the performers on stage with fire works going on above!
