  • A Magical Night!

by Doov on 2020-02-29The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I felt like I was a teenager again back at the Ontario Place Forum. Except the Danforth Music Hall is an even better venue with great acoustics and not a bad seat in the house. Incredibly, Gowan was even better too. I absolutely loved Gowan's performances back then, 30+ years ago, but the show 3 days ago was better than ever. What an amazing talent. While he pokes fun at himself aging, fact of the matter is he's energetic, theatrical, and dramatic as ever and still had the pipes as back in the day (song writing skills and piano virtuosity goes without saying). There was such a great vibe in the room, a fantastic show...and then they played Guerilla Soldier and it went from incredible to downright magical. From that point on the energy in the room went through the roof. So much more to say but this is way too long, so I'll just add what an incredible band he's assembled, world class drummer Todd Sucherman (who he also plays alongside with Styx) did an epic drum solo and Gowan's piano version of Limelight as tribute to Neil Peart.

Awesome show!! Lots of energy and good mix of songs. I just wish it lasted longer. 2 hours is not enough. Wanted the show to go on!!

I went to see Gowan with a friend who is a huge fan. I had little expectations but was super impressed with the show and Gowan's piano skills and voice. He was also very engaging and funny. A true professional!

He is always fantastic! Love love love him. I just wish others would realize the rest of us paid for tickets to see Gowan, not you. Be respectful to the people around you.

We used this concert as a backdrop to a family get together. I think that I enjoyed the concert for than the family. I'd like to see them again; the family, and Gowan. lol

  • Gowan's Still Got It!

by Northgal on 2018-09-12The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 5 out of 5

Lawrence Gowan enjoys performing, and it shows. More than 30 years after some of these songs were new he still sings them like they were Top 40 fresh. His voice remains strong and though he's not jumping off the keyboard any more, his energy is amazing. Backing him is part of the original band, Bob McAlpine on lead guitar and brother Terry Gowan on bass. On drums is the phenomenal Todd Sucherman, Gowan's Styx bandmate, and on keyboard the young man with the fantastic hair, Ryan Bovaird. The one thing I think we could have done without was the sometimes distracting dance moves of Shahi Turukow. Nothing to do with the show per se, but not allowing people to stand at their seats was frustrating and took away from the enjoyment. People were allowed to come to the stage at the 2nd last song, but it should have been sooner. Some venues have a sign saying 'this is a high energy show, standing IS allowed'. Wish it would catch on.

  • Gowan delivers!

by concertjunkee on 2018-09-10The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 5 out of 5

Lawrence Gowan is a talent: Great performer, songwriter and singer. The fact that he is Canadian gave me a sense of national pride as he performed at a border city with a fair amount of US fans coming up to witness. He never loses a beat and you're left with the feeling that you are seeing some real talent. He is backed up by a great band and every player is awesome. His shows are well paced, dramatic and hugely entertaining. I had a disappointing moment when I had to hand in my small point and shoot camera as the venue had a policy against this. Got it back after the show and saw that Gowan was graciously signing autographs and meeting his fans. Every fan got their moment and judging by the enthusiastic crowd, everyone left well rocked!

  • Gowan still has it!

by RoadAngel64 on 2018-09-10The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent performance! He is amazing! Such a voice, and he still has the moves, dancing all over the stage! Styx was the first band I saw when I was 15....last year saw them again, wished Gowan would come solo and he did! Amazing show, I was able to meet him, so real, so friendly, and he remembered me from the audience! Excellent seat, end seat 3 rd row, right in front of his piano! Such a hottie! I was so close I saw what was under his kilt!

We went to Caesars Windsor ( a four hour hike for us) to see Gowan perform and we were so glad we went. He is such a talented singer, piano player and entertainer. While onstage he was presented with an award for going Platinun in digital downloads for Criminal Minds. We especially enjoyed the drum solo by Todd, another outstanding musician. All in all it was a great night.

  • GOWAN WAS AS EXPECTED.....INCREDIBLE SHOW

  • Gowan like fine wine, improves with age. WOW!

by DValentine on 2012-07-15The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

The last time I saw Gowan in a solo concert was about 25 years ago and I loved him then. I did see him a few years ago with Styx and wished that I could see him perform his own music. When I heard that he occasionally performed at Fallsview Casino, I tried to buy tickets last year but was too late. I was so happy to get the tickets for this performance on July 13/12. He still has an amazing voice and dramatic stage presence. I couldn't believe how he still manages to jump around the stage like a "strange animal." His trademark piano playing was still "bang on." His latest songs were more guitar based and i was very surprised and excited to see him and the other guitarists "Rock the house down!" The only thing that would have made my experience better would have been front row tickets. I hope that he has another concert as I will be going. Absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • strange animals at the show

  • Gowan was amazing yet again !!!!!

by Moodyjojo on 2012-07-15The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

I had the chance to see two of the three shows that Gowan put on. I saw the first and the last. They were amazing!!!! It's always wonderful to see Gowan performing his solo shows. I think he outdid himself this time!!! Great mix of songs . And as always Gowan was his energetic self......going to both sides of the stage so that all could see him. His band is awesome....there was so much energy!!!! My only brief beef.....I know that there are tickets for high rollers for the casino that are comped to them. But when you have people in the rows ahead of you sleeping during the show , plugging their ears....it irks me a little. People who love the artist would love, those seats. I guess it's the nature of the beast..... All in all it was a fabulous show!!!!
