    Great Big Sea

by Whalen on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

I got to alot of events but they allways put on the best show. Bringing the opening act up to play with them for the encore was very classy and fantastic.

    Never Unsatisfied with GBS!

    by sds1978 on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

I've been to 3 or 4 Great Big Sea shows and have enjoyed every one. August 22nd was no different. Playing to the crowd and bringing us into the show has always been a staple of GBS. Showing their singing prowess is also something the band seems to do with ease. Even so, I am always astonished at the feat whether it's holding a note for longer than physically possible (I swear these guys must have an extra lung!) or mining the depths of the bass level just above the vibrations snakes hear on the ground. Absolutely breathtaking (pun completely intended). The band played most favourites and had the crowd on their feet for most of the show, only taking time out for slower numbers such as "England". My only recommendation would be for them to possibly perform some newer favourites from "Fortune's Favour". Some of mine would include "Walk on the Moon", "Company of Fools", "Straight to Hell" and "Oh Yeah". All in all Great show!

    To Sea was to Believe!

by Lyndelu on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

On a summer evening, down by the lake, a Canadian band threw a party for their adoring fans. The energy that began with Spirit of the West continued to build with the boys from Newfoundland...and the crowd seemed to eat it up and send it back!! Songs familiar enough to sing along to, but with a pulse too big to keep to their seats, people danced and clapped happy to be there. This is a band that loves their country and loves their fans and it is so evident in the interaction with their audience. They were grateful and humble enough to play with their hearts and souls and had us screaming for more. It was a concert that you just didn't want to end!

    GBS rocked the Amphitheatre!

by SJSM on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

We've been waiting ages to see Great Big Sea live and were not disappointed. They were funny, energetic and played all the hits. We had a great time and can't wait to see them again.

    GBS - awesome experience

by Bogie on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

You don't even have to know their music to have a fantastic time at this concert. Their fan base is the best and you just get swept away on the tidal wave. My only question is: why was lawn seating not available?

    couldn't dance on the lawn?!!

by memememememememememe on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

the band was fantastic, spirit of the west were fantastic, I love the encore when both bands got up together, the music as always is amazing. but I was hugely disappointed that the lawn seat area was closed off. we usually spend our time dancing on the grass.

    G.B.S. in T.O.

by JamesII on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

What a great concert. Having SOTW warm up the crowd was amazing. Then GBS got up and the place went wild. They played old favourites and new pieces and it really appeared that they were having fun, particularly Alan Doyle. It was great to see them on stage live. GBS is a great group who are obviously Canadian (and of course Newfoundlanders) and proud of it.

    Great Big Sea!

by BMacNeill on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

I've seen Great Big Sea a few times now, and all I can say is that they always put on an amazing show. Alan Doyle looked a little tired, but who can blame him with all that touring, and the new movie he is working on.

    G.B.S. Awesome

    by rleblanc76 on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

One of the best of their performances. I always like going to the Molson Ample Theater to watch the Great Big Sea...it's comfortable, and prices are reasonable for food, beer is on the expensive side, but the concert was great!!! I'll see you all next year if the G.B.S is playing at the Molson Ample theater.

Great Big Sea is a Great Big Show!

    by Andrewm86 on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

This show was truly something beautiful! The energy in the building was palpable. The fans truly love the Great Big Sea and the band returns the favour! The show started with Sprit of West playing a great set list of true fan favourites, a few newer pieces and providing a good level of comedy throughout. When GBS stated the crowd erupted in a standing ovation. The band provided tones of fan interaction with their normal sing-along songs and with a fan base this dedicated they really knew the songs. There was plenty of sing and dancing and real fan camaraderie that cannot be toped. The band did not disappoint with plenty of classic favs as well as some of their new works. The show ended with not only one encore but a second encore where both Sprit of the West and GBS played several songs from each band's collection together. It was really the perfect end to a show I will remember for a long time. I would strongly recommend this concert (and Great Big Sea in general) to any fan of traditional folk music with a modern twist or anyone who wants to see what a fun concert should be.

The Biggest Kitchen Party in Toronto

by nprsha on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

I had been a GBS fan since I was a kid, yet I'd never taken the opportunity to see them live. After over 15 years, they didn't disappoint. With a set list that mixed traditional Newfoundland folk music with their more modern digs the music did not disappoint. Alan Doyle and Co. definitely knew how to feed off of each other and the audience. Given that many GBS tunes are about binge "partying" it was expected - yet fun - to have them play right into the audiences shared love of binge "partying". With classics such as "The Night that Patty Murphy Died" and "The Old Black Rum" mixed with the likes of "Mari-Mac", "Excursion 'Round the Bay" and new material like "Fortune's Favour" fun was had by all.

Great Big Sea Amazing as always!!

    by LaLa2 on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

The evening started off with Spirit of the West. I had never seen them live before and thoroughly enjoyed them. Thanks for opening for Great Big Sea! No matter how many times you see Great Big Sea their concerts are always unforgettable! I was lucky to see them in Oshawa in November and then again last night at the Molson Amphitheatre. I have seen other artists within a short space of time and their shows are disappointingly exactly the same, song for song and word for word. But not with GBS! Of course they played their standard get up and dance songs which everyone loves but the rest were a different mix. Refreshing to say the least. They are smart performers! They played a solid 2 hours straight with enthusiasm all the way through. You cannot come out of one of their concerts without feeling that everything is alright with life. Thank you boys for an amazing evening!! Can't wait for the next time!

Great Big Sea was the best!

by HarveyP on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

This was my second time at a GBS concert at the Amphitheatre. The venue is so cool, especially under the roof top. The band really performs a great concert, getting the crowd pumped and interactive. The boys do a great job at the accapella (sp?) songs, too.

    Canadiana at its Best

by JadedJellyBean on 2009-08-23Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

High expectations, high energy, high excitement. Great Big Sea put on a show that I will never forgot. With the entire audience in front of me on their feet, jumping, screaming, and singing along, it was hard not to get swept up in the energy of the thing. The band ensured the participation of the audience, not only by expecting the audience to fill in the gaps of the band's song, but also initiating an audience sing along medley of popular songs not of their own. While Into the West failed to get the crowd jumping, playing many mellow and somber hits, Great Big Sea delivered the heart pounding, foot tapping set that many have come to expect from this fine example of Canadiana.
