Half Moon Run on Tour
Since the release of their 2012 debut album, Dark Eyes, Montreal indie-rock quartet Half Moon Run have developed a reputation as one of Canada's most mesmerizing live bands. Not only does the group feature four equally versatile multi-instrumentalists — resulting in copious onstage role-swapping — each member is blessed with an angelic voice that contributes to their spine-tingling, church-worthy harmonies. Half Moon Run are the sort of singular band that possess the wiry intensity to rock a small club, the anthemic grandeur to captivate festival crowds and the sophisticated arrangements to enhance the soft-seater theater experience. And to properly recreate their signature songs in a live setting, the band employ two drum sets, ensuring that each show builds into a heart-racing, percussion-pounding spectacle.
Half Moon Run in Concert
Formed in Montreal in 2010, Half Moon Run quickly sprinted to the frontlines of that city's fabled indie-rock scene. On their arresting debut single, "Full Circle," the group effortlessly forged a sound that was both rustic and grandiose, incorporating the forest-squatting harmonies of Fleet Foxes, the emotional intensity of Bon Iver and the disquieting atmospherics of Radiohead into its widescreen expanse. That song would help propel their first record, 2012's Dark Days, to platinum status in Canada, and into the charts in several European countries. After touring with indie heavyweights like Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters and Men, and City and Colour, the group returned with 2015's Sun Leads Me On, which entered the Top 5 on the Canadian Billboard albums chart, earning them a Juno nomination for Breakthrough Group of the Year. (And thanks to anthemic singles like "Turn Your Love," the band also made significant inroads into the U.S., with the album cracking the Top 10 on Billboard Heatseekers chart.) But with their third album, A Blemish in the Great Light, Half Moon Run pivot away from their roots-rock foundation to bring their artier instincts to the fore.
Great music and great audience. Everyone was standing which is a first for Queen E. No one was complaining! I purchased 3 CDs when I got home home.
I’ve seen them live 2 times and they never disappoint. They always play crowd favorites and sound absolutely amazing live. The recent show I went to at London Music Hall was great, this band is best to see in a smaller venue, it feels like you’re hanging out with them :)
This ideas 3rd time we’ve seen HMR and was incredible! We go to many small to mid size events and this was a high rank! Music and show suits great for all ages. Mother/daughter were front and centre!! Would love to see them at Hillside Music Festival in Guelph or Owen Sound’s Summerfolk. Saw them at Mariposa last year. Cheers!
Always so amazing to see Half Moon Run live! Half Moon Run is one of Canada’s true talent. The show was awesome!
Where do I start... The pure talent of these 4 dudes is something to see! Literally, you gotta see them live to really appreciate what they do. The audience was a mix of all ages and you can see everyone was a true fan of HMR. If you weren't when you got there, you were when you left! Between the heavy percussion and the multi instrumental talent of all 4 members, then you top that with the seamless 4 man harmonies (in every song!), you feel like you are part of something special... The levels to their music make them masters of their art! I feel like they deserve to play arenas and even stadiums, but wouldn't want to lose the more intimate experience in venues like Burton Cummings type theatres! I woke up the next morning to my soul humming through the performance they gave. Definitely worth every penny. Will be seeing Half Moon Run again and "Then Again"... HMR Fan 4 Life
Using ticket master app was so easy to get in, then the concert omg.... AMAIZING! It was the second time I had seen them live and it was just as magical as the first time
The opening act, Taylor Janzen, was great. She has a lovely voice & was very chatty & friendly. Half Moon Run did a great mix of their hits & were as always excellent. The theatre was pretty much sold out I think, & despite the horrible weather in Vancouver, Snowmageddon Day! most ticket holders seemed not to mind the weather. It was worth going out for this concert. A favorite band gave me a great evening of entertainment.
They blew me away, their music is all so so so good and being there to hear them live was an indescribably amazing experience. If I had the means and capability I’d travel and see all of their shows in every location. 10/10 best concert I’ve ever been to!
Half Moon Run was awesome, and the only reason I didn't rate the concert 5/5 is because of the venue. First of all, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre would not open the doors until 7:00pm, despite the cold winter weather (come on man!). Also, once inside the actual theatre it was so hot that it was extremely uncomfortable. Have they not heard of air conditioning? Anyway, to sum up - great band, loved HMR! Lousy venue - expected better from a premier theatre!
We drove from Whistler in a snow storm for this concert - as soon as the first song started it was clear it was worth the drive. Amazing show, blown away by the talent of this group - switching instruments mid song or playing two at a time. They had great energy and looked like they were enjoying themselves. Their voices are stunning! Also Taylor Janzens (opening act) voice was so powerful and impressive - really enjoyed her as an opener for half moon.
I bought tickets because I heard a song on CBC that I really like; Full Circle. Not only the band was incredible, the audience was totally into the music including me. Everyone stood up practically the whole concert and nobody told us to sit down. Probably one of or the best concert I have ever attended. When I got home I ordered 3 CDs! FYI I am an older fan (64). Still totally in awe!
The show star with Vince James, excellent musician group, it was our first time that we met them. The group is so good, their music is amazing. Half Moon Run they are good and better than ever, new kind of music, the group are improving, maturing, always a show with so much energy. They are special and good performer. Was a great and fantastic show!!!
As always, Half Moon Run put on an amazing show. No matter how many times I see them they’re always so good.
They played all of their hits as well as songs from the new album. The band was surrounded by light machines which made for an amazing visual experience. The first time I saw a live performance with two drum kits and a string quartet. It was captivating and brilliant from the first song to the last.
best show incredible sound superb stage, a real treat for this band
Their live show was incredible! One of the best if not the best I've ever seen. All four of them are ridiculously talented and put on an amazing show, it was mind-blowing! If you still have a chance you have to go see them live. Plants and Animals were equally impressive as the opener! They had an amazing set that blew me away, they were also incredibly talented and very unique.
This group is sooo talented and unique. every song is a hit!
It was an unforgettable evening with Half Moon Run, extremely generous, beautiful lightning and sound!
Perfect show , the crowed was not really into it , but the band was amazing
One of my favorites these days. You can tell they truly enjoy performing and enjoy their fans. I am hypnotized by them every time! !
