Totally blew us away from the first nite to the last gasp.
The depth of talent, the story telling, the fast pace, the music ... incredible production!
Loved the characters and how they put their spin on characters.
The cast of this production blew my socks off; in many ways they are as good or better than the original. I sat, frozen in one spot, mouth agape and eyes wide, shivers running up my body, as I watched the best musical I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen a lot). I loved that the cast bowed together-no front liners. And after the curtain closed I rushed back to the merchandise table to buy more (I got there early to get t-shirts). Then I took photos of my family, and also of strangers, who wanted a photo by the playbill sign, next I danced and sang to my car, got in my sweet mini-van, put on the soundtrack, and proceeded to sing all the way home.
Amazing show, amazing stage and amazing actors! I highly recommend it.
My son and I both felt we missed a lot of the story- even the story line and who the characters were, the first time. My son bought another ticket and suggested I see it again , too, after researching a study guide , available for Hamilton. Watching it the second time, I realized how completely lost I was, with the first show. Knowing the story, and the history better, made it more enjoyable , for me. I am glad to feel more informed re: USA history, and the play motivated me to understand more about the founding fathers. They were definitely only human. And the personalities seemed similar to what we see in politicians today. I really liked the story of Alexander Hamilton who must have been an amazingly motivated, principled, intelligent person. The rap made the play unique, as a musical, but it was too often, too hard to understand. Perhaps sound management could have been better?
Hamilton was fantastic! Met my high expectations. Strong performances, terrific choreography, excellent musicianship. Some players better than the original performances! Wonderful experience at the NAC. The wait was worth it!
Great cast. Superb singing. Blaine Alden Krauss as Aaron Burr has an exceptional beautiful singing voice. The play was overall very delightful and extremely enjoyable. A must-see!
The acoustics in the venue and/or the sound mixing were terrible; the singing was largely incoherent as a result. The audience seemed to think they were still at the Stampede or at a hockey game. The guy next to us down four beers during the course of the show. When the tickets say that masks are required it is then incumbent on the staff to enforce that. Probably more like 25% adherence. I would not recommend this venue, but I would go see a performance of Hamilton in New York.
The performance was great! The actors are extremely talented and it was a great way to modernize a musical while learning about US history. Unfortunately the audio was horrible. We only heard half of the words of the play because the music was so loud that it overtook the actors microphones. Even when the actors spoke without music, it seemed too loud and muffled. I took my parents and they said they maybe heard 10% of what was being said. I’m surprised that the audio issue hasn’t been addressed since this was the second last night of the performance in Calgary. I’m not sure if it’s the best they could do with the audio equipment in the Jubilee, or if no one from their group watched from the audience to see if adjustments needed to be made. It would have been amazing if the audio was better. It’s very unfortunate, and we are disappointed to have had that experience with such a popular play.
An amazing production at the NAC, it was a Christmas gift for my daughter 7 months in the making, we both thoroughly enjoyed the show from beginning to end. I would recommend Hamilton to anyone.
The play and choreograpy was very good, but the singer's voices were not clear. Their muffled sounds made it hard to understand the words of the characters, as well as making it difficult to follow the play. Everyone in our group of 4 people had the same complaint about the sound. I doubt it was the venue, since we have not had this problem with other performances there.
Wonderful performance! Not a single complaint. Music was engaging, the dancing and singing phenomenal! Shout out to all those who made it happen - awesome job!
The show was absolutely amazing. I had goosebumps on my goosebumps when the cast sang so many of their songs. Their unified and individual voices were beautiful. I’d say Hamilton is a hit!! I wish everyone could afford to see shows this amazing. I’m in love with the soundtrack and could play it everyday. I would go again if I could.
Hamilton is by far one of the best theatrical experiences I have had — and I am a theatre lover! With such a fast-paced and high-energy performance it is impossible not to be left speechless! Bravo to the entire cast and crew!
Wanted so much to see this Internationally acclaimed musical!! Took the teenagers as well. It did not disappoint!! Beautiful voices! Great performances all around!! Just Amazing!! Thank you for bringing this Showpiece to Calgary!!
This is a must see show. Totally speechless, the actors are amazing, the songs are awesome and the production is superb. Hope to see it again.
The only way it could’ve been closer to the original performance was if it was the original cast. The cast was phenomenal, the set and costumes looked exactly like the original play. If you are a die hard Hamilton fan, or just looking for a great night out I highly recommend going to see this.
I saw the 8pm show on July 30, 2022. I had previously seen a touring version of Hamilton in the UK in 2019, and unfortunately this show at the NAC compared very poorly to the previous show I had seen. There were relatively minor flaws in some of the choreography and the quality of the performances, but those could generally be overlooked. However, there were major technical issues, particularly in the first half, before intermisson, that rendered more than one number basically unintelligible. A combination of poor sound mixing, overly-loud background music/instrumentals and overly quiet singing from some performers resulted in entire sections being drowned out. It was a real shame, and having discussed the show with others, those who were not familiar with the show previously were at times at a loss as tonwhat was happening, as key plot lines were missed. This had nothing to do with the speed of the singing, and wverything to do with sound-mixing and audio issues. All in all, it was quite disappointing and certainly the first time that I have come away from a show at the NAC feeling that the show did not represent good value for money.
Wonderful performance, fabulous music, spectacular cast and a fun history lesson!
