About

In describing Henry Rollins, the tendency is to try to squeeze as many labels as possible into a single sentence. "Rollins is many things," says The Washington Post, "diatribist, confessor, provocateur, humorist, even motivational speaker...his is an enthusiastic and engaging chatter." Entertainment Weekly's list includes "Punk Rock icon. Spoken word poet. Actor. Author. DJ. Is there anything this guy can't do?" TV Guide has more concisely called him a "Renaissance Man" but if Henry Rollins could be reduced to a single word, that word would undoubtedly be "workaholic." When he's not traveling, Rollins prefers a to keep a relentless schedule full of work, with gigs as an actor, author, DJ, voice-over artist and TV show host to name a few of the roles that keep his schedule full. Rollins has toured the world as a spoken word artist, as frontman for both Rollins Band and Black Flag and as a solitary traveler with insatiable curiosity, favoring road-less-traveled locales in places such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Siberia, North Korea, South Sudan and Iran.

    Great experience

by Mike LeBlanc on 2022-06-03Algonquin Commons Theatre - Ottawa

With regards to the Algonquin Commons Theatre venue, it was very accessible, parking was plenty and reasonably priced. The pay app was simple and easy to pay using ApplePay. Getting seated was very fast, the digital ticket system was great and the ushers would fast and efficient. As for our guest Mr. Rollins, as always it was a pleasure to see him live again. I have always been a fan of him, his writing and spoken word. The 2 1/2 hour long show went by so easily and effortlessly. There were plenty of thoughtful and insightful stories, laughs, and incredible moments of brilliance. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to seeing him live again at another time.

Could have stayed Three hour more

by R. V. on 2022-06-01Bella Concert Hall - Mount Royal University - Calgary

Love Henry Rollins. It was amazing to meet him, even though I couldn't talk because I was in shock. I wish he would have answered my question at the Q&A. If I wanted to know his favorite books and colour I could read that on Google.

    Great as always

by BryanB-rules on 2022-05-27Bella Concert Hall - Mount Royal University - Calgary

Like him or hate him, Rollins always has something to say and like many of his others shows, I walk away reviewing it over and over. He never fails to make me think and look at things outside of myself. If you have never been to a Rollins talk - do it. Just listen.

Henry delivers 2.5 hours of storytelling gold

by Ctrice on 2018-01-28The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Henry has always been a great storyteller and this time was no different. Henry incorporated a slideshow element to his show for the first time and it was a huge success. It was great to have beautiful visuals alongside his stories.

Henry Reinvents His Spoken Word Show

by ApostolicPants on 2018-01-25The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Having seen Henry do spoken word before I would have been happy to have gone back for more of the same. With the travel slide show he has simply found a new means of telling his stories and imparting his message that the way to understand the world is to experience it and talk to its people. Great photos and his personal stories and the sense that as he talks about each photo he is reexperiencing what was going on kept me invested from the beginning to the end.

    Rollins was phenomenal!

by darkhorsejax on 2016-11-08The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Not my first time seeing the former Black Flag frontman on one of this spoken word tours. This is actually my fourth one in the GTA and I'm never disappointed. The venue was great, the seats provided a good view. Rollins was witty, charming and engaging, keeping up a steady flow of almost conversational dialogue for 2.5 hours. It was great!

    Henry Rollins, Carlin's Nephew?

by MisterMojo555 on 2012-11-23Glenn Gould Studio - Toronto

To watch Henry Rollins is always a delight, whether it be 50 pounds of microphone cord wrapped around his arm in the presence of the band or solo for almost 3 hours without even a glass of water. Always intense, always passionate, always intelligent with a purpose or lesson behind almost everything story while being clear and quite funny too. American politics, musical influence, world travel, being a work slut, he covers much. He's a very bright light in todays entertainment arena. Is Henry Rollins related to George Carlin? Now that would be an intense conversation between uncle and nephew if it were only true. Different arts, somewhat, but topics are often aligned.

    Henry Rollins changed my life!

by SneakyGreedo on 2012-11-22Glenn Gould Studio - Toronto

Mr. Rollins was full of piss and vinegar! His spoken word performance was powerful and insightful. He had many comments in regards to our friends from the south and there recent election. It was high brow night of thought provoking entertainment. I left it realizing that our generation is driving the change needed to make this world a better place.

    150 minutes with Henry Rollins

by BDP88 on 2012-11-21Glenn Gould Studio - Toronto

Henry was a machine! He started just after 8:00 and didn't stop talking until after 10:30!! He stood stock-still for that whole time, only moving his right arm while keeping his left arm cocked and holding the microphone (with the cord wrapped around his hand a few times, as is his custom). His performance was impressive; to be able to recall stories for over two hours is almost unbelievable unless one was there to witness it. One-third of Henry's anecdotes are autobiographical, one-third are political, and one-third are about his interaction with other people, especially people who have emotionally impacted him for a number of reasons. Henry Rollins is a thinking person's entertainer. He mixes humour with pathos in a way that is uniquely his, and his personal evolution is obvious as he is one of a seemingly small number of people who learn how to be better humans as they age. I recommend going to see Henry as well as listening to his recorded shows and reading his books. His take on life and society is intruiging and thought-provoking. The biography "Turned On" is compelling and also worthy of your time.

    Henry is reliably awesome

by gnome888 on 2012-06-10Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Great show, as always! Henry never disappoints. Super- kinetic mix of comic and dramatic stories that he somehow connects, though you leave not knowing quite how he did it. And how he did it without drinking any water! Masterful storyteller. Love that he seems to unconsciously revert to his one-foot-forward mic-rocking pose, like his body memory is deeply ingrained. Highly recommend!

Henry Rollins has some great stories to tell

by 1337erOfMen on 2012-06-09Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

What I love best about Henry Rollins' spoken word shows is that he has a lot of great stories to tell and he tells them in an entertaining manner. He is a man who leads a very enriched life full of traveling and experiences that most people don't even get to experience a fraction of in a whole lifespan let alone the couple of years that pass between Rollins' tours. It becomes quite easy to live vicariously through his stories.
